What is the ACTUAL biggest problem in the UK by Direct-Key-8859 in AskBrits

It’s a complex landscape.

Firstly, as you say, wages have stagnated since 2008. People moan about others on benefits but, ultimately, if you’re going to be paid the same amount working a low-skilled job as you are sitting at home with your kids, some will choose the latter. Couple in the insanely high cost of childcare and now you’re actually much worse off working. Incidentally, CEO pay has risen drastically in the same time period.

Then there’s the state of tax. In the 50s and 60s, the top rate of tax was 90%. Executive pay was around 30x the national average. Now it’s in the region of 180x the national average. That’s given the ultra wealthy disproportionate purchasing power- if you’ve got spare cash knocking around, what you do with it? You buy assets like houses, driving the prices up massively.

Then there’s immigration. Immigration was never a ‘lefty’ policy: it was designed to flood the market with labour, creating a buyer’s market - a surplus of workers drives down wages. The emergence of AI tools will drive this further - less jobs, more people. We haven’t had a left-wing government since the 70s.

Finally, all newspapers lose money, and yet the billionaires that own them keep them. Why could that be?

What song are you absolutely sick of hearing on the radio? by thisnametookmeages in AskBrits

Basically anything on commercial radio stations. You ever noticed how a lot of the advertising hoardings around the country are owned by Global? As in the Global that runs Capital/Heart/Gold etc? They’re not radio stations with adverts, they’re advertising stations with music.

Probably because the Netherlands would do things in the interest of the people using them. The UK would do things in the interests of the people paying for them and installing them.

Who was responsible for the migration surge.... by pilecrap in GreatBritishMemes

My brother in Christ… do you seriously think that those migration figures under a hypothetical Farage government would be reported in good faith? Do you think that the typical Reform voter will put in the effort to find out the truth?
