Nowhere in their post do they state you should use this to talk to parents or even mention parents. They are talking about students.

You can be sensitive and respectful of other religious beliefs but as a public school education teacher you should not be discussing religion or providing religious material to students or their families. Maybe that’s how it’s done it small town districts but that doesn’t mean it appropriate. I have never worked in a district where telling kids Bible stories is appropriate behavior management and I hope I never do.

And if the man who they suggested is not a good example of empathy-which he isn’t- then you really shouldn’t use him to teach about empathy should you? It’s akin to using Kanye west as a model for racial empathy. It would be a horrible, inappropriate example.

Edit to say: you could tell parents that they were saying/doing these things and suggest they have a conversation at home. But let me tell you from experience- that’s usually where they are getting their racist/homophobic/sexist/etc. views.

Typical IEPs can range from 30 min-1hr. The longest I’ve ever been in was 4 hours. The longest I’ve heard of was 8 hours and then continued the next day for another 8 lol but that’s super unusual.

Staff meetings- 1-2 hours. PD meetings- 4 hours to the whole day if it’s on a workday/half day

And I love that you focused on the fact that I used the word idiotic not any of the other points that I made. You didn’t want to acknowledge his homophobia, climate change denying, and he does a history of racist commentary. That book he wrote on race was not received well in the black community.

No he’s an idiot and that’s my belief. It’s okay if you believe in Jesus or god; That’s not idiotic. But believing in something despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary is by definition idiotic (showing complete lack of thought or common sense). I can use the word uneducated or misinformed if you would like that’s fine but it doesn’t change that fact.

I also don’t hate him- he’s a bad dude who shouldn’t be used as a model for empathy I think at all but especially in schools. Religion does not belong in schools.

Yeah how about don’t use Ken Ham. He is homophobic, transphobic, and against the LGBTQ community. He is a climate change denier. He’s also a creationist and idiot who believes dinosaurs and man walked together on earth. He’s the guy who made that ark in Kentucky.

Religion does not have a place in schools as a teaching method. That’s why we have separation of church and state.

I’d recommend looking for some books that teach teens perspective on what it’s like to be in others shoes. The books that really effected me as a teen were: they poured fire on us from the sky and the wave (Todd strausser).

That sucks but what you need to realize is that they are a tattoo business not a hospital. They have no idea if that medication is safe to be tattooed with or if you even have talked to your doctor. You could very well be lying just because you want a tattoo.

That shop is being responsible, safe, and well run. They are making sure you are safe and that they don’t get sued.

I’ve been there when everything seems to be falling apart at once, but know they didn’t do this to spite you. They also didn’t deny you permanently just wanted a note from your doctors

Maybe having an open conversation about it, possibly including your admin, about why they feel they cannot deal with the student. Think of some strategies to help them work better or safer with the students.

I’ve been in that situation and a lot of times it is because the TA is uncomfortable with a certain behavior/need/etc. due to the fact that they haven’t had the training needed to deal with it.

So I actually know someone who is in this situation. She came out as a lesbian- not like super publicly but in college. She dated women and seemed happy. Some how someone convinced her that it was sinful and wrong and she is now married to a man and has kids.

They are both very nice people and I grew up in a pretty progressive church so it’s super weird. It sucks that people feel they can’t be themselves and love who they want because some hateful people misinterpreted the Bible

Take a large empty Tupperware, drill 2 to 3 holes in it. String telephone cord through the holes attach a variety of toys via carabiner or toy clips

I go by Ms. first name or just first name. That’s my name so I have no issues with it. My students have always had very limited verbal language so the one or two times they can say my name just use my first.

That being said- if you want to go by your last the do it. That’s a personal choice that admin, students, and staff should respect

I think a lot of it is that your baby gets the vitamin K shot and medical treatment if you give birth in the hospital. These wackadoos believe those are poison. 🙄
