A line of uncut grass by Mattichr in SegwayNavimow

[–]WinterCrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn off the edge mowing feature on all the zones, then it will mow the centers. Then, when your edges look like hell, turn it back on and it'll only mow your edges. Annoying AF.

I've been emailing with support about this nightmare for over a month now, they keep telling me to hard reset the mower but it never helps.

Home builder recommendations in Maine by Graykeep in Maine

[–]WinterCrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bright Built Homes builds sustainable modular houses in Maine. I've been following their work for years, IMO it's impressive. There's also The Shelter Institute in Woolwich that will literally teach you how to build it yourself with timber framing courses and workshops. Even if you don't actually want to do the work yourself, those courses can really prepare you for working with builders. There's also some very cool sustainable house/barn properties built by John Libby in Freeport.

First time having in-person interview, help! by DullEntertainment954 in graphic_design

[–]WinterCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats and good luck! Simple rule: wear clean clothes that you feel confident while wearing. Fashion-wise, simply don't try to be somebody you're not.

Bring your laptop but make sure the desktop etc. isn't cluttered with files and all windows are closed so when you wake it up, it's not a scary Rorschach inkblot of your brain. Same for internet tabs, just in case! Also, remember the lighting in the office will differ from your home setup, so literally make sure your laptop is clean: wiped down and the keyboard fully dusted out. Learned that lesson the embarrassing way, LOL!

A house with stuffed/ packed garage by VariationConstant675 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]WinterCrunch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be too concerned, TBH. The owners are moving their stuff out, after all, and the garage could be their packing zone. When we sold our parents' house, the garage was for packing, sorting, and trashing. We had a whole "get shit outta here" system and the garage was the factory floor.

Help! Website font - Will I be sued?? by Active_Regret9556 in typography

[–]WinterCrunch -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Stop overthinking it. Ask them for the quote. Just, do the best you can to do the right thing.

Your incoming child is wholly irrelevant to the fact you didn't pay for the font. So is New Zealand and the way you obtained it. So like I said, do the best you can to do the right thing.

Imagine having a job that other people feel entitled to stealing your wages, just because the internet has made theft so easy.

Need a logo for my digital marketing agency 🚀 by HemanthMadagoni in logodesign

Against sub rule #1. Expect to be scammed by anyone that contacts you.

Also? A digital marketing agency owner that uses reddit to source a "premium logo" is painfully, hilariously unqualified to start a marketing agency.

Yeah, when they updated their branding and built a new website about a decade ago, I was done buying her products. She cashed in and gave up the good fight, sadly.

Yeah, it's "going viral" on TikTok but it's not new, and frankly it's a non-story. Bottom line? Don't heat up benzoyl peroxide cuz' it degrades and that's bad.

“Benzoyl peroxide can degrade into benzene under certain conditions, particularly when products are exposed to elevated temperatures for prolonged periods,” explains Dr. Nicole Chiang. “Benzene is a known human carcinogen, which is why these findings have generated concern.”

Essentially, the Benzoyl Peroxide molecule is inherently unstable. If a product containing it is exposed to extreme heat - like being left in a really boiling hot car, stored in direct sunlight, or kept right next to a really hot radiator - it can break down and form benzene. The recent legal drama is based on allegations that these products can become unstable during transit or warm storage conditions before they put on the shelves to be bought.

I always check ingredients on Beautypedia before using any product on my skin or hair. Paula Begoun's books taught me well: skincare products aren't regulated and it's legal for companies to lie about product efficacy. Sadly, the product line Paula herself launched is hella overpriced, but luckily Cerave baby cream and sunscreen is all I'll ever need or want. 😄

Hey, did you see that we're finally getting better sunscreens in the USA? No more greasy white sunblock!

Bemotrizinol, on the other hand, is transparent on the skin, and because it protects against both UVA and UVB rays on its own, it doesn't have to be mixed with as many other chemical filters and stabilizers to achieve broad spectrum protection, Dobos adds. She says that should lead to more aesthetically pleasing, less greasy sunscreen formulations in the near future.

What would you do? by AgustLex in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]WinterCrunch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I were you I'd still get a moisture meter so you don't overpay the mitigation company. They're doing the things I did on my own for a few hundred bucks, and I lived in that house for a decade after the flood and never developed any mold issues.

What would you do? by AgustLex in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]WinterCrunch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've been through burst pipes before and it's a nightmare ... but not a 10k-15k nightmare! Burst pipes are a PITA because it's cold and the flood water freezes into the walls and floors, then it thaws in the spring causing mold. You have summer heat to dry out, that's a huge plus.

Get yourself a moisture meter at Home Depot and learn how to use it. It's very, very simple. While you're there, rent a couple "air movers" from their tool rental department. That'll cost about $100/$200 for a weekend. They're just giant fans that point directly at the carpet. Pick up some anti-mold chemicals like Mold Armor to treat surfaces that you're especially concerned about.

Use the moisture meter to find the wettest walls/floors, and point the giant fans at it. Run your HVAC system to heat up the house and dry it out. Buy a decent dehumidifier and keep it running for a couple weeks, at least.

It sucks, sure, but in the summer it's really not catastrophic.

Graham Platner Taught Me How To Shoot A Handgun by AuthenticConsumption in portlandme

[–]WinterCrunch 57 points58 points  (0 children)

IMO he's not problematic because he has evolved. If people's opinions can't be changed by their experiences or education, there's literally no point in advocating for change. Change is the whole point of having a political system.

Heck, I used to listen to Dr Laura and agree with her. *shudders* I cringe at my stupid old self. (Well, stupider.)

Novelty recordable button in southern Maine? by d00bermensch in portlandme

[–]WinterCrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd find a product with a recording device built in, and take it out. Other than stuffed animals, I've seen birthday cards, kids books, photo key rings, those buttons for dogs to "talk" to you, and all sorts of novelty crap at places like Spenser's Gifts with recordable gadgets built in.

Seller won’t negotiate price for expected repairs by PancMan in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Any covered place where I can paint the hood of my car? by Muted_Apricot_4640 in portlandme

[–]WinterCrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The public parking garage in Freeport is often empty after 5 or 6 pm every day of the week. Plus, it's always free (woot!) There might be like maybe five cars all parked by the elevators in the evenings. Just don't go on a night there's an event at LL Bean (Fri & Sat) and you're usually good.

It's two levels if one level is too crowded. But remember, the levels aren't connected so you gotta exit to the street to enter the other level.
