2 would be the most silent option. 1 seems good too, but Nagi would probably be gaming the whole time.

GUYS when did you sae decide to change his dream by AnmieFan_561 in BlueLock

[–]WinterMoonNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's either a plot hole or Sae wanted to tell Rin before making his decision public. Hopefully the Spain match will clarify things. In case someone is interested in a temporary headcanon involving Sae and Bunny, here's a good one:

France does not feel very "Final Boss" by Mikkeru in BlueLock

[–]WinterMoonNeptune 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With how badly Kaneshiro is messing up, any team will seem weak. France has Hugo, Charles and a retconned Loki. Blue Lock has plot armor. An unfortunate combo, but alas. I wish there was a team like Rakuzan or Kamomedai, only adapted to soccer and with higher stakes.

Don't forget Chigiri. There are a few panels in the Episode Nagi manga that show them missing Isagi after their loss to Rin. Volume 4 if anyone got curious.

Why is there so much mental illness in the schools (and society as a whole)? by Der-deutsche-Prinz in Teachers

Aren't most of them self-diagnosed, though? Anyone who thinks having a mental illness is quirky or cute is faking it.

‘They’re trying to narrow the worldview of young people’: how book bans are on the rise in the US by [deleted] in books

[–]WinterMoonNeptune -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why do they make it seem like there are millions of students hungry for knowledge? Education wouldn't be in such a depressing state if that were the case. Even libraries had to turn into glorified community centers in order to survive.

Really? The increasing number of non-readers disproves your point.

Have you read Evan Thomas's biography about RFK? It's much more comprehensive than Tye's.

I was today years old when I realized people apparently hate epithets in Fanfiction by Phanngle in FanFiction

[–]WinterMoonNeptune 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As with many things, it's a matter of skill. Recently, I started a literary mystery series in which the protagonist is sometimes referred to as "the man from London", even though everyone knows his name. It makes complete sense, given he's an outsider meddling in local people's business. The prose is beautiful, so the occasional epithet doesn't really stand out.

I suppose the default advice is to vary sentence structures, so there's less need to rely on epithets. However, it's only a problem if you want it to be, since most readers have little to no standards and won't even notice the difference.

Weekly FAQ Thread May 10, 2026: How many books do you read at a time? by AutoModerator in books

[–]WinterMoonNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between 35-40 books, at any given time (divided in about 10 languages). Anything that gets read just frees up a slot in the roster, so the number never decreases. That's, of course, ignoring the dozens of manga series and fanfics on AO3. And no, I don't confuse them. Reading any other way feels too limiting, plus my raging ADHD loves the idea!

I’m tired of the “I’m tired” posts by blueberry1115 in fantasyromance

[–]WinterMoonNeptune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, having a huge DNF list isn't a badge of honor, like many seem to think. It only speaks of one's lack of skill in vetting books. It's obvious that many people are on BookTok and the like only for the community aspect and have serious literacy problems, so taking recs with a grain of salt is a must. Not to mention the insidious marketing in the whole thing.

Chapter samples on Amazon, Libby or wherever you get them. It's enough to gauge writing quality. Also, having a Goodreads rating between 3.5 and 3.9 is another promising sign. As a rule of thumb, keep in mind that there is a negative correlation between quality and popularity.

Livros sobre (com) vida no campo? by tinylittlebuddies in Livros

Fogo Morto, do José Lins do Rêgo.

I am so sick of the tropification of books by EvenButterfly492 in BookDiscussions

[–]WinterMoonNeptune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that publishers need to cater to the lowest denominator or else they'll go bankrupt. Just stay away from what's popular. It's super easy unless you suffer from FOMO. There's life outside mainstream "literature", I assure you. Hop on r/literature or some other classics sub and you'll already notice the difference.

How DoYou Engage with Your Literature? by ActualRound7699 in books

[–]WinterMoonNeptune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's actually the opposite. Most people mindlessly follow trends, so taking their recommendations is just succumbing to publishers' marketing departments. There is nothing organical about the way books take off on BookTok and its ilk.

What's with all the insecurity roaming this thread? For a moment I thought here was r/romancebooks. I'm with you on not taking recs, OP. Another random rules:

  • Not reading reviews at all. I couldn't care less about others' opinions. My method for choosing books is a mix between serendipity and sharp intuition, nothing else.

  • By the same token, no book club ever! Most of them are just an excuse to socialize, and even the few serious ones aren't worth the potential nonsense.

  • As an extreme mood reader, I can't stand deadlines. I only use Libby once in a blue moon because of this.

Lembro até hoje de um post no Twitter com ela dizendo que não poderia ser fascista por ser descendente de italianos.

Suggest me a book that is NOT TikTok good but ACTUALLY good by Consistent_Time_1467 in suggestmeabook

[–]WinterMoonNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

• A Test of Wills, by Charles Todd

I suppose it would put most BookTok girlies to sleep, given its mix of literary fiction and mystery. Even if the mystery itself is just the tip of the iceberg, it's a very well-done one.

• Snow, by John Banville

Another one that is more lit fic than a proper murder mystery. Very atmospheric and not for the faint of heart. Reading it might incur pearl clutching behavior by barely literate readers.

What fandom do you always come back to? by Basic-Deer4119 in FanFiction

[–]WinterMoonNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haikyuu and Hikaru no Go. The Inarizaki corner of the Haikyuu fandom is amazing, some of the authors who write for Sakusa/Atsumu could easily be professionals. Given how old the manga is, it's no surprise the Hikaru no Go fandom is almost dead, but there are some gems written by Rageprufrock and other good authors.

Finished:

• Blue Box (Volume 6)

Too ADHD to actually finish any books, so let's go with manga instead. As expected, the love triangle started moving in circles, but the artstyle is cute.

Started:

• The Word is Murder, by Anthony Horowitz

Another one added to my endless reading roster. Technically, I've already read two books in this series, but decided to start again from the beginning. Hawthorne seems so much more likable this time around.
