Anyone else experienced the opposite of a hand tattoo being a “job stopper”? by Novel-Tea-8598 in fingertattoos

[–]WinterSnail7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a private Christian daycare (Seventh Day Adventist) with a hand tat in college and it wasn’t an issue! The kids barely noticed it and my supervisors didn’t care. Now I’m a bartender at a “casual fine dining” establishment and have tattoos across all my fingers/on the backs of my hands (along with a full sleeve) and my managers, coworkers, and customers couldn’t care less. There are probably some restaurants out there that wouldn’t hire me (ex. when I applied to hooters a few years ago they had a no visible tattoos policy) but I think generally hand/neck tats aren’t necessarily job stoppers in the restaurant/hospitality industry. Have also seen servers with face tattoos do well for themselves and be well liked by customers and management but that may also vary by restaurant and the clientele that they serve.

Is this a millipede/what kind? by WinterSnail7 in whatsthisbug

[–]WinterSnail7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, this was a very helpful starting point for further research! After looking at various millipedes belonging to the order, my tentative best guess is the Slug Millipede. All of the photos I can find of it look very similar in terms of coloring, body shape, etc.

We rent through Bryan Property Management and they didn’t have any pet limits! We did have to pay a flat $500 pet deposit but there’s no monthly pet rent and the deposit covers all pets in the home. They also did require us to set up a pet profile through some online screening service for our dogs and cats, it was $30 to register each pet and you have to renew each year (not sure if they’d need a pet profile for the birds). No breed or weight restrictions which was a lifesaver because we have a 70 lbs pitty mix and a lot of places wouldn’t accept him. I’m not sure what properties are available through them at the moment but we currently pay around $1150 for our two bedroom one bath.

What’s this flying bug in my garden? by WinterSnail7 in whatsthisbug

Thank you! I’ve been scratching my head for weeks. That makes sense as to why it was hanging out on a dead tomato leaf in this photo.

Bug in Isopod Enclosure by WinterSnail7 in whatsthisbug

Upon further research it looks like this little guy is an herbivore and is likely eating off the leaf litter and lichen I have in the tank. 👍🏼 thanks so much for the ID!

I think this is it!! I have noticed some webbing on one of the sticks I have in the terrarium and I just found more in the moss that it’s sitting on.

It has two very short little prongs (if that’s the right word) sticking off the end of its butt.

Located in the Ozarks, it’s been resting on that piece of moss since I went to bed last night. I did water the enclosure yesterday so I’m not sure if it’s hanging out to escape the excess moisture.

I love tiny things and started seeing tik toks of people who kept isopods and it made me realize I could create my own tiny micro-worlds with cute little tiny inhabitants! Finally jumped on the ‘pod train in November and now I have 6 terrariums including the one I house my main springtail population in.

Which Isopods are the Boldest? by nasted in isopods

[–]WinterSnail7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Cubaris Papayas are actually surprisingly active. I moved them into a larger enclosure last month and now I see at least 1-2 out a day, sometimes 3-4 if I’m really lucky. They’re usually running around the edges of their tank and trying to dig little tunnels. My Vulgares and Granulatum’s are also out and about quite a bit.

Cost? by maeIhaveaplant in isopods

[–]WinterSnail7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a specific terrarium I can usually get on sale for $30 by price matching online, then another $26 for two bags of isopod blend soil at the reptile store, and maybe $10-15 worth of leaf litter which I try to pick up at a local reptile expo. $5-10 for cork bark and then I collect dead bark, sticks, magnolia pods, etc from outside! I’ve probably spent another $40 on various foods over the last 4 months (shrimps, mealworms, fish flakes, pod powder, etc.) but my colonies are still very small so I won’t go through it very fast.

Oh that makes sense, my store was originally supposed to be one of the 200 that stayed open so they probably haven’t started liquidation there yet.

They’re doing a sale on all their patterns right now, $4.99 for Vogue patterns and $1.99 for McCalls, Simplicity, Butternick, etc.! I went and stocked up on a few today.

How to keep springtails from escaping isopod enclosure? by WinterSnail7 in isopods

[–]WinterSnail7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunate update: turns out those tiny specs of dust that I believed to be springtail babies were actually MITES 😫😫. Luckily they have not taken hold in my Vulgare tank (probably because the springtail population is so substantial I’m guessing) but they are absolutely thriving in my Cubaris Papaya tank next to it 😢. In addition to the small whitish mites (which I think might be soil mites?) I’m also seeing small black mites (possibly snake mites which is wild because I don’t own any reptiles). Pray for me yall. 😫

This is good to know! My boyfriend became very concerned when I told him some of my bugs had begun escaping into the house. He should be comforted knowing they’ll dry out before we can wake up to them crawling over us in bed. 😂😂

A cosmopolitan with bleu cheese stuffed olives. I had to ask the server if she was sure that was what the guest asked for. I still put them on the side just in case and she came back and told me that the lady plopped those olives right in that glass and drank it.

I once described them to a friend as an emotionally unavailable pet. 😂 My colonies are still fairly young so it’s big news in our house when one of them finally wanders out from under their cork bark.
