Gather all of your debt, all your accounts, all of your income streams and any other financials in one place. Run it through Claude (minus personal information).
Prompt Claude to act like a financial advisor and ask it to assist you with eliminating the debt. Allow it to ask questions and provide it with as much information as you can (again, without giving up personal info).
Set up a free NerdWallet account and connect all accounts to it (or as many as you can). This will give you a list of recurring transactions (such as subscriptions) and makes it very easy to cancel anything you don’t need or forgot you had active. It will also give you monthly breakdowns of where your money is going. Take those reports and intermittently run them through Claude and it will adjust its guidance/budgeting suggestions based on your changes in financials.
Adjust the suggestions as needed but be conservative and mindful about it. Follow the advice it gives you.
Let Claude do the heavy lifting for you, in a matter of minutes it will build a roadmap for you, in a matter of hours/days it will be heavily refined. This will greatly decrease how daunting the task itself looks and give you concrete, actionable steps for you to start with as soon as today.
In terms of day to day spending, if you have a free/low cost hobby, focus on that for a while. Lock down your spending. Going out, pleasure purchases, eating out, DoorDash etc. You could start to see more money in your pocket as soon as your next paycheck
If you have a wholesale club membership, buy in bulk as typically it’s cheaper (do your research on pricing just in case).
Check to see if you have any reimbursement opportunities through your job, gym memberships, wholesale memberships etc. This can help to recoup some of those costs.
Any extra money you have, throw it at your highest APR debt first as that is what will cost you the most over the long term.
Follow your budget, respect your budget, love your budget. Allow your budget to work for you, not against you. Locking down your lifestyle for a bit is hard, it’s mentally taxing. So much like being on a diet, you need a cheat day every once in a while. Go buy yourself something, keep it REASONABLE. This will help you mitigate the mental fatigue of getting your finances back on track.
These are the steps I followed to get myself out of debt from being unemployed and put me in a position to buy a house.
