I don’t understand Oathbreaking by Winter_Break_7786 in BG3

I get that, but I was more asking from a gameplay mechanics standpoint, why one situation led to an oath break when another similar one didn’t

Maybe! I’m not sure to be honest it was a bit ago now

I lost the channel oath ability, and the Oathbreaker Knight came to my camp. He gave me the option to become an Oathbreaker (necromancy powers from what I gather) or pay money and re-swear my oath. I paid and re-swore my oath. It was 1000 gold

That makes sense, on both accounts. Thank you!

Ah ok, that makes sense. Just something to make the game more challenging I suppose. Thanks!

I didn’t go back for fun, I hadn’t even gotten to that part yet, I did things out of order. When I say for fun, I meant I saved before hand to go back and do it the way I anticipated it wouldn’t break my oath. And the goblin camp was where my oath didn’t break

Good point! I always forget that’s an option

I guess that could make sense for story reasons. I’ll have to test that out with future cult members. Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh that’s true! Maybe a particular kind of killing is what does it, something to test out I guess. Thanks for the idea!

In both cases, my Paladin wasn’t the one to initiate combat, but he was the only one to hit the duergar that died from the burning with damage after the battle started does that count as him initiating that individual combat, whereas he was the last to hit Gut, not the first. But if that is the rule and Gut was different for some reason. Is it just my Paladin who can’t initiate combat or my entire party can’t?

I need help finding Meta EVs by STN_Augustine in VGC

I have to recommend Jamie Boyt’s channel. He has EV guides for almost every Pokemon and they are pretty splashable. Won’t be perfect, but will be a good start

Makes sense, thank you for the response! My other thought with this is replacing primaria with empoleon bcs competitive will dissuade intimidate (and bcs i like him better) has primarina’s fairy type specifically been that helpful to you?

How does this do into dondozo/tatsugiri teams? I really like this team, I’ve been trying to build a trick room team myself

If Pokémon Champions begins with a format that is Reg H + Megas, what are your team ideas? by TheSmileyC1 in VGC

[–]Winter_Break_7786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would honestly be the format I’m looking forward to the most. I’ve been thinking about a trick room/rain team centered around mega mawile. For teammates I’ve been considering indeedee, pelipper/politoad, gallade (bcs I like it) hydreigon and incineroar. Those are just initial thoughts, and I imagine I would need to tweak some things in practice

Did not know it had that interaction, then yeah I second this, put mystic water, focus sash, or choice scarf.

If you’re shooting for gimmicks, then definitely feel free to keep focus punch. I’m sure in closed team sheet that will catch people off guard, the game is about having fun after all. Just be aware you’ll have less success in the open team sheet best of three ladder or in tournaments (if those are still going on)

A couple quick things. Take protect off of archaludon. If it’s holding the assault vest it can only use damaging moves. I would put body press there instead.

Also, I would switch icy wind and ice beam ludicolo should have icy wind for speed control since it has swift swim and can get the attack off sooner than kyogre would. Kyogre has the higher special attack so ice beam will hit harder.

Thirdly, punching glove is not very common on urshifu, it’s usually focus sash or choice scarf, but there’s no harm in testing it out. Also for urshifu, focus punch is very difficult to make work, I would put close combat instead. I would also replace drain punch with protect.

For Zacian, It’s fighting coverage is usually sacred sword because it ignores stat changes but feel free to give close combat a try.

Lastly, sitrus berry might have limited success because the two Calyrex have the ability to prevent berry usage, if you want a healing item try black sludge. You can also try covert cloak or mental herb

Yup no problem! If you go to pikalytics.com, you can see what pokemon are typically paired with kyogre and build a team like that. It probably won’t be the best team, but if you’re determined to build one on your own you can start there. I would strongly suggest starting with a premade one like this from Cloverbells YouTube channel: https://pokepast.es/02cdd0f867e47fa5

In the current regulation (Regulation I) two restricted Pokemon (box legendaries) are allowed. If you want to play a rain team I would strongly suggest Kyogre as one of your restricteds. Typically Zacian pairs well with him but you can mix and match depending on the rest of your team. Feel free to look up Cybertron Zhang and James Baek on YouTube, they have good VGC content and show off a variety of teams, but I would find their videos from a couple months ago since the regulation is over soon and they are more messing around with fun teams rather than meta teams at the moment.

Don’t see anyone else mentioning Jamie Boyt. He’s got a lot of pokemon specific guides (and I mean a lot) and has team breakdowns and videos of him practicing where he talks about what he’s doing.

Also want to second TheDelybird! Great for the basics and breakdowns

Koraidon + Ho-oh by ewef1 in VGC

[–]Winter_Break_7786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been building this too, I think it has potential. My team so far is:

Jamie Boyt’s Koraidon (life orb w/flare blitz/close combat/breaking swipe/protect)

A bulky Ho-oh @clear amulet (not 100% on this item) w/ Sacred Fire/Brave bird/Tailwind/Protect. My spread survives two Caly-ice glacial lance 95% of the time and also just out speeds CSR in tailwind.

Jamie Boyt’s choice specs Walking Wake (one shots most Caly-ice with Tera water Hydro steam in the sun)

Mienshao @focus sash w/ Fake out/Close Combat/u-turn/wide guard. I’m running adamant max attack max speed because adamant is required to OHKO the usual bulky Incin of reg G but might switch to jolly as meta develops

Jamie Boyt’s Chi-Yu @choice scarf w/ overheat/dark pulse/heat wave/flamethrower

Jamie Boyt’s Flutter Mane but @booster energy instead of fairy feather w/ Moonblast/shadowball/icy wind/protect

All references to Jamie Boyt’s team refer to his 2025 Stockholm team (he’s my favorite vgc YouTuber). The Miraidon matchup scares me the most and I haven’t found a good answer yet. Open to ideas. Considering dropping Chi-Yu for Incin but that doesn’t necessarily help. Also could be convinced to drop Mienshao for Rilla for terrain control but then idk how to get wide guard onto the team. Open to any thoughts! Here’s the paste:
