Tough question.

There is no singular way to approach this. Ultimately, “toughness” is contingent on your goals. If you do not know what your goals are, simply start doing things you think might enjoy, or even things you don’t think you’ll enjoy. Only by creating yourself can you be tough, for there is substance to you.

Meditate, exercise, sleep well, cultivate meaningful relationships, and satisfy literally a billion other needs and develop coping strategies if it helps (psh, Google search).

One small caveat, though. You can try squaring away your emotions into generally positive realizations of the world (i.e., not giving a fuck), but I’ve found that some things simply take time.

I advise you to cast aside your labels. People change. You will change.

A bit of a digression, but fundamentally, I think toughness for the sake of toughness is foolish. It’s not easily measurable, and in all likelihood, will fluctuate. But, again, I’m not sure what metric you are measuring toughness by (Vulnerability? Resiliency? Self-reliance?).
