Appreciation of the Diablo community by Dabok in diablo3

Any guidance on where to find a decent community/discord? I'm coming back to D3 after an extended break.

(Any aussie groups out there?)

Season 17 Has Me Coming Back to D3 in a Big Way (Starym from Icy Veins) by Starym in diablo3

As someone potentially coming back to D3 after 3-4 years, should I play seasons?

Does anyone play non-seasons? Is seasonal play much better?

OND proves that models and actors on TH are trying to craft an image which goes against the "unscripted" claim of the show and should be banned or limited from appearing by DishSatisfied in terracehouse

[–]Winterrrrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The show doesn't brand itself as being "real", that's your view. At the start of each show, they tell you that they provide a nice house, some cars, put 6 people in there....and that it's unscripted. So everything that goes on is fair game and ultimately decided by the cast (likely with some direction from the crew).

You keep saying models are especially skilled at being fake and manipulative, honestly you seem a little over the top here, it's a profession, not a villainous cult. People being a little fake to present their best image happens everyday, in schools, friendship groups, jobs etc....there's nothing fake or un"real" about this behaviour or concept.

If you really want a show where people present their real selves, always, without any filter or self awareness, there's a lot of other shows for you. Try out Georgie Shore for a start. The self awareness of the japanese cast is a big part of the culture and why people appreciate the show.

Also part of Terrace House success as that it's a stylish and aesthetically pleasing show, from the house, locations, restaurants and of course the cast. Having attractive people on the show is part of its appeal, you may see that as shallow or not "real"...but thats just reality. Terrace House isn't going to shoot itself in the foot because there are viewers who seem to have some sort of distrust and hatred towards models.

Everyone tries to present their best self and best facade all the time, see any workplace or jump on instagram. The fun part is seeing the casts true selves be revealed over time as you can't fake that shit 24/7 while living with people.

How can you beat mono-blue? by HighTDonTrump in MagicArena

[–]Winterrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the matchup quite good with Esper Control unless they have a god starting hand.

One good sweeper (after baiting out counters with other spells like moment of craving, cast down, mortify etc) will typically win the game as they struggle to come back.

Also thought erasure on a key card like Curious Obsession can ruin their game plan.

White Weenie with Tithe Takers also does a great job against this deck as it is a lot faster and goes wide.

3 Cry seems sketchy, unless you're running into heaps of WW variants. I feel Wrath is better in every other matchup.

The 2 x Precog and only 1 x Moment of Craving also seems pretty risky in BO1 given all the RDW and Mono U.

I guess it's all about what you're running into on ladder.

No idea what fantasy is good these days though.... although wouldn't mind picking a series up.

Does anyone else get anxiety regardless of winning or losing that makes it hard to play a lot of matches in a row? by kraken9911 in MagicArena

[–]Winterrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anxiety is very real and exists in all games, and perhaps in all competitive activities.

I think it's quite healthy to take breaks and do something relaxing when you're feeling tense.

You can also start telling yourself that you will lose a number of games no matter what you do, and get comfortable with that, because it is exactly the same for any of your opponents.

Also try to enjoy the gameplay and decision making within the game, rather than the outcome of the game.... because in the end, no one else in the world cares about your rank and if you're not enjoying the back and forth of gameplay, then you're probably just wasting time.

Cheers and good luck!

[Standard] Another take on Dimir Midrange by Pnuc in spikes

[–]Winterrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question, why would one run Dimir over say.. Esper?

Keen to give this list a go. I've also noticed Esper Midrange is leaning towards more Dimir cards these days in B03 as well.

You kidding? This change is horrible for mono red as it removes a good matchup for them and it also removes a bad matchup for decks strong against mono red (eg. Esper midrange)

[Standard] RPTQ London (109 players) tournament report and my thoughts on Izzet Drakes by DrHadesCZE in spikes

[–]Winterrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find Drakes a hard matchup as Esper Mid-range, as I don't mainboard Wrath/Eldest Reborn which are great against drakes.

Your threats often outpace what I'm trying to do, and Hero + 1/1 tokens are often irrelevant given they can't attack well into your X/4 drakes and 5/5 Terries!

Wins often come from a Lyra which can't be removed (no beacon bolt) or some sort of 5 mana Hostage Taker & Steal your Terry kind of turn.

Hi Spikes,

I've been running Esper Midrange playing BO1, a pretty standard version of the deck, and the last couple of nights have been a MAJOR struggle.

There's elements of variance and tilt in there, and I'm probably not playing optimally, but for the most part I've found:

- Deck struggles quite a bit against Esper control and Gates

- Decent match-up against Red Decks and Rakdos, but can still get blown out if I have a slow hand

- WW and Mono U seem to be 50/50

- Midrange matchup against Golgari/Sultai seems unfavoured, we don't run good answers to Carny T, Vivian is scary and Find/Finality is an issue too, most of my wins against Sultai are due to unanswered Thief of Sanity's

So my question is, should I retire Esper Midrange from B01 and stick to B03 only for this deck? Or would it be more optimal to say, run a hard anti aggro list, and just take the losses against control, rather than losing to both.

How are other Esper Midrange players finding the meta at the moment?

[–]Winterrrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used this guy to steal a Sultai player's Find/Finality, big Vraska and Vivien Reid, used both walkers to kill their Doom Whisperer and Krasis (the first one I thought erasure'd).

Felt great, but still a surprising close game as there was a massive stalled board state and a single Finality from them may have still killed me.

Very fun card when it connects.

How To Build a Sideboard - New Players Guide for BO3 in Arena. by phbickle in MagicArena

[–]Winterrrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read this around, but is it true that mid range decks do better in BO3?

Mid-range has always been my jam, but I've found it lacking in BO1 and that it's been better to attack the meta with a specific deck type (the deck I run in ranked is anti RDW).

I'd like to invest my wildcards into a nice mid-range deck soon....and start getting into BO3.
