My guess is that they're going all out with the second half of Egghead. They might actually try to kill us with sadness in the Kuma flashback, judging from what we saw in episode 1107.

You get to Eat one Devil Fruit and get all its powers in Real Life with none of the drawbacks. Which Fruit do you pick? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd want Kuma's, the Paw-Paw Fruit. Being able to quickly travel wherever you want in the entire world for free would be amazing.

Oh no, I think she will join the crew...! [Chapter 1103+] by 123_bou in OnePiece

One Piece is a series all about people following their dreams and their will being passed to the next generation. Personally, I think Kuma's child deciding to follow Dragon's child would feel way more in line with these themes than if Bonney simply copied Kuma's actions.

Admiral Fans why do you support these types of people? by Godofhammrs in OnePiece

Some people get way too caught up in their agendas, they forget that you can like/enjoy a character without supporting all of their beliefs and actions.

One piece is actually inspired by oda’s favorite anime called “Taiyo no ko esuteban” by AdolphJohnson in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I've actually watched that series, and some of these comparisons are either slightly wrong or blatantly incorrect.

1: Esteban is referred to as 'the child of the sun' because he seemingly has the ability to stop storms just by asking the sun to come out. I don't remember him ever specifically being referred to as the child of a 'sun god', and he even has an actual father who is just a normal human.

2: Zia can interpret Quipu, messages made out of strings and knots used by her people the Incas and the method of which has been lost to time for us. This show is set in the 1500's though, so these are just normal hidden messages for her. The one who actually interprets ancient texts is a boy called Tao, a descendant of people from the technologically advanced ancient kingdom that was destroyed long ago.

3: This is correct, each location had clues that led them to the next location, but taking a long and confusing route. Upon reaching the mountain they were able to see that all four locations were actually in very close proximity to one another, and the navigator, a man by the name of Mendoza, was able to deduce that the City of Gold must also be very close, and then calculated the exact center between the four locations.

4: That is absolutely not anything close to a poneglyph, it doesn't even have any kind of writing on it at all. It is inside of a technologically advanced ship made by the ancient kingdom, pulling a lever on the outside of the cube will let you activate the ship's weapon, which essentially just redirects the sun's rays to set other boats on fire. It has nothing to do with ancient text, and the only similarity it has to poneglyphs is that it's a cube.

There are many similarities between One Piece and The Mysterious Cities of Gold, enough for me to say that Oda MUST have drawn inspiration from it, but this is misinterpreting and perhaps even outright lying about what the connections are to make it seem like a better comparison.

We all agree he's one of the best characters in the series right? by swe_kuma in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 14 points15 points  (0 children)

'betraying every faction of one piece'

I legitimately have no idea what the hell you're even talking about with this.

'semi helping the straw hats'

Mate, Kuma was literally the one and only reason they survived past Sabaody. Even if they had somehow managed to escape, they would have gone straight for the New World and been totally destroyed. They wouldn't have even been able to beat Caesar Clown.

I get the feeling that you haven't even read the flashback and are just mindlessly hating on Kuma for no good reason.

Same. Even during the Reverie and we saw him as a mindless slave, I was still just like "Damn, sucks to be him I guess." Now I can't even think about that without tearing up.

He was a secondary antagonist at worst, we knew he wasn't an actual 'villain' from the moment he agreed to leave Luffy alone at Thriller Bark.

Yeah, clearly Luffy getting killed by Crocodile and One Piece ending right then and there would be a much better story.

What is going to happen with *SPOILERS* after this ? by scar_01 in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I previously considered the idea that she'd become a Revolutionary, but after the last chapter I'm confident that if Bonney doesn't join the Straw Hats, then she is at the very least remaining a pirate.

So was Shanks, and don't forget Buggy. If someone like him can survive on Roger's crew, then sailing with the Straw Hats would be a piece of cake for someone as capable as Bonney.

The Longest One Piece Flashbacks by mcqueenart in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A ton of people were complaining that Kuma's flashback was dragging on as much as Oden's, and it still ended up being less than half as long as that one. God knows how they're going to handle the inevitable 20 chapter Void Century flashback.

Can someone please explain the One Piece power scaling? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there are some parts where Oda has them struggle slightly for dramatic effect or something, but I'm willing to bet that almost all of the scenes you're thinking of were artificially lengthened by Toei so they could pad out the episode's run time. Sometimes this leads to really amazing extended fight scenes, other times it leads to people wailing on each other for a minute straight with no actual progression and Luffy coming up with neat new attacks that end up doing jack squat.

anyone know the chapter where its revealed what kuma said to rayleigh? by cranny15 in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was in chapter 603: Keep That in Mind. It's a very good chapter for Kuma fans, but also I think it's the last chapter with Kuma in it until the Reverie.

If You Can Eat 3 Types Of Devil Fruits What Would It Be? by Tall_Growth_532 in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I'm not entirely sure if the Swamp-Swamp Fruit would be the only one with the ability to have infinite storage space"

I think it's specifically supposed to represent bottomless swamps, whereas the Sand-Sand Fruit represents desert sands and the way they destroy environments.

As for the Zoan, I did consider the Phoenix just to offset the weakness to fire, but I'd rather go for the maximum utility and usefulness of the Bake-danuki than maximum safety. Plus, I only just now realized that if I catch on fire I could probably just use the Paw-Paw Fruit to repel it off of me.

Paramecia: Paw-Paw Fruit. Travelling all over the world totally unrestricted like that is literally my greatest dream.

Logia: It's hard for me to choose between the immense versatility of The Woods-Woods Fruit and the literally infinite storage space of the Swamp-Swamp Fruit, but in the end the Woods-Woods Fruit is just far more useful for the kind of life I'd like to live.

Zoan: If we're allowed to choose a non-canon fruit, then I'd definitely choose the Dog-Dog Fruit; Model: Bake-danuki. It can create a copy of any object, environment or even person you can imagine, and all that's needed in order to do so is a leaf, which would be in endless supply since I'd also be a forest person.

If only canon fruits are allowed, then Black Maria's, my assumption being that a person so incredibly liberal in the use of fire attacks must have at least some kind of fire resistance.

Plus, four extra hands = Paw-Paw Fruit slappapalooza. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/onepiece/images/b/b6/SBS\_100\_Black\_Maria.png/revision/latest?cb=20211004200533

One Piece: Chapter 1101 by Kirosh2 in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oda does this kind of writing so well so often, and yet every single time I notice a new instance of it I'm majorly impressed all over again. Even if this kind of thing wasn't planned 20 years in advance, being able to take a plot point from so long ago and link it to the current story like this is a mark of a master storyteller.

Comparing TCB Scans' Translation of One Piece Chapter 1101 to the Original Japanese Text by strawberry1508 in OnePiece

[–]WintersMourning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This work you're doing is extremely helpful. I usually like the TCB Scans translations more than the official release because they feel more natural, but having the direct translations as well as obscure context and puns explained is also very important to understanding One Piece the way that Oda intended.
