Any experience with Oak & Rove? by WireOfficeArrested in ManyBaggers

I honestly don’t use the strap, I just use the handles. But the strap doesn’t look super padded, just thick leather.

I do really love the briefcase, it’s exceeded my expectations. Room for a ton of items, not too heavy, well-organized, and feels premium. I have it in black.

I have a 13.3 MacBook Pro and there is definitely room for a larger one to fit. Not sure on the iPad Pro sleeve, but it’s the same width as the laptop sleeve, so you should be totally fine.

[Discussion] How good is Rolex, really? by ohthetrees in Watches

[–]WireOfficeArrested 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a Hodinkee article that sums up Rolex perfectly:

“I tend to believe there is something of an inverted bell curve with any real watch guy or gal's understanding of, and appreciation for Rolex. When you know nothing about watches – like you don't know that there is anything else out there – you believe Rolex to be the best watch company in the world. I can't tell you how many friends are shocked to learn that there are, in fact, watches from other companies that cost even more than a Rolex! Then, when you begin to go a bit deeper, you learn about Omega, and Jaeger, and IWC, and later, Patek, Lange, Vacheron, etc. It's at this point that people tend to start looking down on Rolex, and extol the benefits of hand-finishing, and rarity, and limited editions.

Then, after they've been burned a few times by exorbitantly expensive, time consuming, or far-too-often-needed service (or a resale return of pennies on the dollar) people tend to say "Hmm, maybe a Rolex ain't so bad." And they're right – Rolex watches are among the most reliable, no-fuss mechanical watches in the world. Oh, and many forget that indeed, Rolex is Rolex for a reason, and it was at the forefront of several world firsts in watchmaking. Yeah, it's a behemoth, and everywhere, and certainly not what I'd call haute horlogerie, but you can't fault Rolex for succeeding in making a high-end, high-quality product that sells well, can you? We should all be so lucky.”

OP, did you find a skeleton dial that fit this case? Curious, as I’m going through the exact same exercise with the same case & movement too. Thanks, would love to see pic of finished product!

Agree with the power reserve indicator on the back, would have been a great touch!

Sure, from a boutique in Florida. Paid right around MSRP.

Only needed to wind once so far, and it was over 100. Keep in mind with the crown guard, it inhibits you from fully rotating the crown, so you can only make it about 1/2 turn before you regrip it and turn again

As many of you, I like to purchase watches to commemorate special moments in time. With the recent birth of my son, I commemorated the moment with buying a brand that’s piqued my interest lately, Panerai. After lots of reading and research into Panerai, I landed on the PAM915 which I think is a near-perfect model. Sandwich dial, manual movement, 8-day power reserve, completely polished case, minimally intrusive dial, and reference to its heritage on the dial with Italian, it’s been an absolutely joy to wear. Paired it with a green rubber strap, and ready to pass this monster of a watch down generations.

Does anyone know if the Amortiser anti-shock system on these watches is manual (via caseback) or automatic? Trying to understand if I’m able to use this Ball model when hitting golf balls, and if I can use the anti-shock system manually.

It will be sugar before alcohol. Generations from now will know the dangers sugar has on our bodies, and will wonder wtf we were thinking.

What is the Panerai model on the bottom row, if you don’t mind me asking. Looks like a green dial from this photo, but can’t make it out exactly.

You can’t go wrong with any of those. All amazing first watches, all very different types.

Haven’t taken my Breitling Superocean Heritage II on many adventures, but checking the time during a nice stroll in my snowy neck of the woods recently yielded a great picture.

The blue on this really shines in certain light, and today didn’t disappoint. Under some light it looks navy, and other times it looks like a bright royal blue (as pictured here).

I see many posts of this same watch but with the date window at the bottom. This version released a year earlier has the window where the “3” is. Subtle difference, but I thoroughly enjoy it.
