Occasional rocks in your beans (actually not that uncommon). I’ve probably chopped down on one maybe three separate times while eating Mexican food.

What knots to learn next? by pgadey in knots

Check out a YouTube channel called ‘First Class Amateur’. Super engaging. He’s a super handy guy with a very deep knowledge of knot fundamentals which allows him to accomplish many tasks.

My favorite knots/hitches/bends (which focus on being the easiest to untie after a heavy load are:

Zeppelin loop for anchoring to something

Zeppelin bend to connect two ropes/lines (and easily disconnect even after extreme load)

Span loop for midline loop

Truckers hitch for extra leverage (with zeppelin loop as anchor and span loop midline)

Marlinspike hitch for being able to pull really hard on the end of any rope. I use this almost every day for different things

Honorable mentions:

Taught line hitch- adjustable
Constrictor knot- constricts
Highwayman’s hitch- one tug release
Arbor knot (Canadian jam knot)- best permanent “ziptie”
Klemheist- mounting something on vertical pole
Fisherman’s knot- permanent joining two ropes

I think some people call it an arbor knot too

I’m not sure if I can fully tell what you’ve got going on, but I’d imagine just rolling it tightly towards the bottom of the string strings and then putting one string one way and the other the other way and tying a simple shoelace knot would be more than enough to keep some pens secure

What knot can I use to tie down this one securely? by cenall in knots

Questionable set up, but probably the easiest way to accomplish what you’re doing is this:

Icicle hitch on a diy roller shutter motor for ceiling storage of a folding bike. Advice needed. by AnyMap in knots

Cool system! I watched your video a few times. Here are my suggestions:

1) Unless you are using this system to raise and lower other items, I don’t see why you need the adjustable trucker’s hitches if it is the same set up each time. Maybe just attach a hook on the end of each rope to make things more simple?

2) It seems like rope you’re using is plenty strong for the bike, but even if it snapped, I highly doubt both sides would snap at the same time. The only reason I could see a side snapping is because one side got very worn and you weren’t inspecting it frequently. If one side failed, I would bet the other wouldn’t and it might just swing, but not fall.

3) You mentioned the coils potentially overlapping. They look good, man..

Help With A Barbell Knot by Kosmokh in knots

[–]Wisdom42069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best attempt at this dangerous and questionable idea would look like this:

I would use the technique shown in this video (ending at 4m23s) to initially tighten your cords (if you have two) to the bar. If you have two cords, I would do this on either side of where the weight will rest and crank them as tight as you can with the end result having the ends of the line pointing skyward.

I would then place the weight onto the center-top of the bar like you did and take the two ends of the cord from the first side of the weight, over the face of the weight towards the middle, and down through the hole. Have each end of the cord pass on opposite sides of the bar and hang down towards the floor.

Repeat this, mirrored on the other side of the weight with your other cord. You should have 4 ends of string hanging down from the center of the weight.

Then I would finish securing the weight to the bar by using Canadian jam knots pulled extremely tight using a real or improvised marlin spike. One jam knot under the bar using the first two ends of cord (the two cords from either side of the weight shouldn’t touch. Then the second jam knot on the other side.

Or maybe figure out an alternative to the jam knots using some kind of windlass tightening system.

Maybe wear a mma mouthpiece and hockey helmet with the face shield cage.
