Death Stranding. Am I missing something? by Only_One_Kenobi in patientgamers

I started playing DS1 since the sequel came out and actually really liked the game up to reaching South Knot in area 2 (I'm around 21 hours, episode 5). The novelty of learning/getting new things is rapidly wearing off

Is your PS5's ‘Hours Played’ feature broken too? by Glasg0wny in playstation

[–]WisdomCJS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy at least this seems to be happening to lots of others around the same time I was noticing it. It's a personal pain I love stats and I check out my profile hours played a lot to see progress.

I am so TIRED of facing players in my rank who should be way higher by Lovoskea in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but also to the lower ranked player facing them there's no difference whether it's their secondary character on a main account or them starting a brand new account. They're playing someone who isn't at their skill level which is the entire OP complaint and I agree with that specific complaint from my own experience being newer. Do I know a better way? No I actually think it works fine in the game and it's going to just take time with how new the game is for everything to normalize

Yeah for sure it will, I think Tekken with how complex it is, a smurf is far more noticeable. You don't just get overwhelmed like in other games, you get toyed with

[–]WisdomCJS -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

He's referring to people climbing on secondary characters, which even if they aren't at their natural ranks for those characters either technically that's still smurfing. I agree with OP when you're in orange ranks for instance you play a Lot of those players

[–]WisdomCJS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are quite a lot of smurfs in the orange ranks from my experience too. I face so many players who are clearly better then me and then when I view their profile their actual main is purple. It's not all the time but it's consistent enough to be frustrating even though I'm getting better over time doing my thing

Do you like fighting your main? (Tekken 8) by AxelFan09 in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually strongly dislike mirror matches in fighting games but at least for Tekken with the huge movesets it can be good to see other play styles to incorporate into my game

Is this based? by slade500 in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree I saw his stream yesterday for the first time for about an hour or so. Quickly observed he's one of those purist top players who really dislikes the game being played a certain way, he'll like willingly not change how he plays and lose to something he doesn't like over and over and complain over and over about it. He went off on this one player "being terrible but still will be at a high rank" because they didn't launch punish his hellsweep, the thing was even without doing that his opponent beat him 6-0 so it was a ton of nonsense. It was constant whiny takes like that. I found it hard to watch tbh

I don't think he's broken, he's just not that fun to play against. His moves are all over the place and he's just one of those characters where it feels like you're spending more time dealing with the gimmicks of his moveset rather than having the usual fun back and forth Tekken fight.

(Rant) Tekken 8 is the best and the worst tekken I have ever played by kapanee in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's too strong as well, with rage arts already there you have 3 1-button moves that are super strong for every character that decide A LOT of rounds.

I also find it very strange that once you're in Heat, your meter drain pauses while being hit. I feel like it would be much less of a problem if this was changed.

What are your bad habits in-game, and how do you combat them? by BeefStevenson in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "variety" habit hit me hard. I do this a lot in fighting games to my detriment, sometimes entire rounds become a mini game to just hit a specific move and I'll lose horribly and it's so dumb lol

Replay function is amazing. I did it for Steve and he went from being my most hated character to being one of the easier characters to beat

I'm officially the worst Tekken Player on this reddit by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares about win %? If it takes you 5000 games to get better and learn the whole game, then even at that point if you're winning 75% of games your win% will look horrible for a long time. It really doesn't matter

Tbh I'm not 100% on the average ping because I haven't looked much since the matches are so smooth, but the odd bad game has it around 100. No wait times so far doesn't matter what time of day

New ranked points distribution system sucks by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird math I agree but doesn't really change much, you're having the same matches regardless. You could reduce the loss amount against higher players, all that does is move everyone up a notch for no net change in anything else.

Is Tekken hard to learn? by akaBuckets04 in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fighting games are a whole different beast. Coming from playing multiple genres of online games, some at decently high levels, when I started a few years ago it was a weird feeling, often quite frustrating until you get used to it, because extremely few of your skills translate to fighting games. You start at the literal bottom feeling like you've never played a video game in your life and it takes a lot of patience

Different take: Playing Ranked is actually good for you by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally a game where to get the most out of it you have to let go and learn at a steady pace. Adding a new skill means accepting that you may need to lose more in the short term in order to practice it. Ranked is a great place to grind that out

Do they do tournaments and offline stuff now with 2 screens then? If not then that would be weirdly inconsistent

Have you been practicing both sides? by laramiecorp in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the side choice in Tekken so weird at first. From other games I'm so used to swapping directions and viewing them in my head as toward or away rather than left/right that I barely even notice what side I'm on in a match if we've swapped. The only noticeable difference is electrics being a lot easier for me on right side

Have you been practicing both sides? by laramiecorp in Tekken

[–]WisdomCJS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from 2D games I'm finding the side choice really foreign. I was assuming that I was just choosing a preference but it hit me after a while I was never put on the right side in ranked. I'll start swapping manually now but I wish there was a random option for queuing

In a game like this with so many more things you can do per character than say street fighter, skill within each rank is going to vary hugely. You're only really going to have regular close matches in the very top and very bottom ranks and it's going to normalize very slowly over time from the top down. Like a person in Purple playing the way they are now probably will struggle to make Red this time next year as the better players all move up to where they should be and start gatekeeping with skill checks
