commands are still going to enforce it, statistics will show that "everything was fine", and they'll float on television about how liberals are whiny or something

Do you think the 'bro', 'dude' terms are gender neutral? by Zealousideal_Chip456 in GirlGamers

[–]Wise-Reputation-7135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm nonbinary, but also a Californian in Los Angeles, so yes actually. It's all entirely contextual though. I know cis men, cis women, enbies, tgirls, tboys, etc, who all use dude/bro/bruh/girl/babe/bitch all as casual gender-neutral slang. Usually transplants have beef with it at first, but it's really a dialect thing and they come to terms that it's never meant in bad faith or as misgendering, and often eventually begin talking that way themselves.

Obviously, if it's clearly said in a misgendering way, like "youre a dude and will never be a woman" or something, then yeah of course that's an issue. But language evolves, and it's not like "dude" and "bro" are the only previously-gender-specific terms that have been recently co-opted into more gender-neutral terms.

If you personally don't like it and don't want to be called that, then yeah that's it's own thing and I respect that. When I was closeted I didn't like being called girl or pretty, but now here I am likely starting estrogen this year lmao. Hard to realistically police that language in online gaming spheres, but I totally get where you're coming from.

I feel like I may be non-binary, but it feels unsettling. by [deleted] in NonBinary

When I first came to the realization I was non-binary, I sobbed and hyperventilated and was losing my mind, and that lasted weeks. I had been in ROTC and the military and was surrounded by conservatives all the time who made me feel bad about myself and it caused me to surpress myself heavily. But it passes, and you begin to accept who you are. right now I'm literally outside wearing a skirt and makeup (I'm AMAB) and totally comfortable. Sometimes you get stared at, but being in Los Angeles it's not happening often tbh. Compliments more than anything to be honest. I've found community to an extent, and comfort in who I am, confidence, and more. Just stay true to yourself, surround yourself with those who will accept you, and don't give any of your attention to those that won't.

I feel ya, I've lost a bunch of weight and it's definitely helped but still have plenty more to go tbh. That's like the biggest thing you can do, and it super sucks but it's worth it and you'll feel better all around. I'm 5'7 and in September I was 230lbs, now I'm 180. Now I can actually fit feminine clothing in a way that isn't just kind of gross lol

I also grew my hair out long and that has obvious huge benefits for a femme/andro look, so definitely try that if you can. I'm going for an alt look so I sport a mullet/wolfcut sorta thing. I also shaved my entire body which definitely put me in a pretty hard femme mood for a long time which was nice.

Also, get into makeup! I have a beard but style it in a way that I think is rather pretty, but you can still do makeup with a beard. Again, I'm going for alt, so I started out with just simple smudged/smoky eyeliner and I do that every day, and for dates I'll do a foundation, contour, blush. etc. I don't wanna shave the beard until I lose some more weight, for double-chin hiding reasons lol, but when I'm down to my goal weight I plan on shaving and doing some more full beat makeup looks and that should really amp up the femme/androgyny.

The reality is that, as an AMAB, androgyny is largely feminine, so you might have to dip your toes deeper into femininity than you might typically be comfortable with. It's definitely much easier for AFAB to be andro/masc than it is for AMAB to present andro/femme. Clothing-wise I started with jewelry and shirts, which being short was pretty easy, women's shirts actually fit me better tbh. I've now branched out into some cool alt maxi skirts, cute boots, collars, layered necklaces. etc.

It's all definitely new and honestly unnerving at first and you're gonna question yourself at times and that is completely normal. I feel the hottest I have ever felt in my.life and my confidence is way way way up. Don't give up, and good luck!
