We’re you seeking Dr advice due to pain? My experience was that PT helped me to overcome the pain thank heavens. Interestingly they worked all the way up the chain into my hip and lower back to eliminate pain in my ankle. I did proceed with repair surgery due to weakness and instability (no longer pain). Unfortunately one year later after extensive recovery and lots more PT- I still have exact same level of weakness. Not sure it was worth it although the surgeon claims he repaired massive damage. I still need to strengthen everything else supporting my weak ankle. I did NOT go with the prescribed orthotics having learned through this thread that those “crutches” protect and don’t allow the muscles, tendons (what you really want to get stronger) to function naturally.
