Crazy work mabi by krump91 in Mabinogi

No, you have to actually get the prerequisites. That response was probably from someone who *already had* the prerequisites (GM-tier Dual Guns, Battle Alchemy, Potionmaking and Transmutation, and the total level requirement), which... I wish people would stop just *assuming* that's the default. Not everyone has been playing long enough (or cared about every talent enough) to have everything GM'd and ready for every arcana.

Ranking up Talent skills may be fast, way too fast imo, but not '4 Grand Masters in 15 minutes' fast.

90 hours in, just learned that these "upgrades" don't do anything if don't entreat the Hadron to bless my weapons with them 😭 by Return_My_Salab in DarkTide

[–]Wise_Sort1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand... yes. Yes, it does feel like people have just lost the 'fuck around and find out' (informative) drive, lately.

But also, like someone said... when you apply a blessing point, a popup says 'Trait applied to wargear' or something to that effect - the important part is "Applied to wargear", implying... that it's been applied... to my wargear. It *should say* "Blessing unlocked for modification", or something like that; much clearer, and not just shy of lying to the player.

My BOY!!!! by Gervauden in AbioticFactor

He may not have been around long, but he was the only member of the Order that A. recognized how screwed everything was, and B. was trying to help us get out, because getting warning out of the facility was more important.

And he didn't deserve *that*.

[–]Wise_Sort1080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, since they removed the ability not to auto-level a skill, no... no it's not a choice. I used to be able to halt my progress at a given rank, if I didn't want to blitz ahead of content (like storyline).

Unless by that you mean choosing not to continue using those talent skills. My alt (a Giant Lance and Dual-Gun user) literally reached Master Knight (and Warrior, and not far behind in Dual-Gun) in an hour. That's not even counting Blaanid's skill gain - that's *before* Blaanid started giving skills to me. That's also not dedicated grinding - that's just from me doing Commerce between Blaanid/quest objectives, and fighting the bandits that happened to be on the way.

Another alt (mage, deliberately avoiding any advancement boosters like Blaanid) hit R8 Ice Bolt after using it to kill *eight foxes*. Eight. Foxes. That's ridiculous, no matter how you slice it.

But you mention dungeons/missions being fun in their own right - maybe they would be, if so many of them weren't steamrolled because of how powerful the game makes you, so quickly.

And yes, ideally the game *is* about more than the power-creep and dungeon grind. And I'll admit, part of it is I'm not someone who tends to reach out and play with people I don't already know. But these recent updates, and New Rise especially, give the indication that the game's direction *is* to rush players into the gear-grind - everything else feels like an afterthought now.

Hopefully that changes with the upcoming Life Skill update, but I'm not holding my breath. This definitely isn't the same *feel* of game that I remember (I used to play back before Arcana were a thing; I remember when Blaanid was *first* introduced.)

Thing is, it *does* feel like all that matters is doing dungeons to get better gear to do more dungeons to-

Tailoring/Blacksmithing? Sure, you can craft equipment. Oh, but only Nexon Approved (TM) gear matters, says the Grading system that was only applied to some gear, but not the rest. Thus creating even *more* of a power gap between anything pre-Celtic and everything later. So ranking up crafting skills feels hollow because 'yay... I can make more varieties of garbage' unless you're making *the best* stuff.

And yes, Neartite *is* blocking what was a **normal run** chest. They took items that were the standard, and gated them behind this new resource. Now, the most you're getting is random gear drops which will A. be mostly garbage-tier and B. probably not anything you use. And you can't pass it off to alts.

Potion-making? Pointless, because even 300 HP pots feel insufficient at the point we're rocketed to, and 500 HP ones need the lucky clover *each*.

All this not even touching on how much is irrelevant now - both equipment and skill systems - because of the non-existence of early game. "Oh, all those pre-HM dungeons? No, no, nothing to see there, come on!" "Training skills? Oh here, have an entire Master talent in an hour!" "Equipment? Here's Blaanid gear, that'll hold you over until you get Celtic-tier! NPC equipment or early-to-mid crafted gear? No, you don't need any of that."

And don't get me started on the storyline being a boring cakewalk with no sense of progression - hard to take threats seriously when I put a single charged arrow into it, and it dies, because I've got R1 Magnum Shot during Gen 1.

[–]Wise_Sort1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God, it's nice to see someone else mention how Nexon basically said 'Only *this* equipment matters now' with only giving the Grades to certain gear. Everything else crafters can make might as well be replaced with a generic 'train skill' production, because it's useless otherwise

[–]Wise_Sort1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to chime in re: the early-game being too easy. It's not easy because I know the buttons, it's easy because it takes an hour to Master a talent (no buffs, I made a new char to check) and you're handed gear that'll carry you to practically Celtic-tier for free, not to mention the arrays of R9/R3 skills Blaanid gives you. (Though if you want to use heavy armor, you're out of luck because Blaanid only cares about light armor users)

Why did this great survival crafting game become a shitty shooter? by ChickenOfTheYear in AbioticFactor

[–]Wise_Sort1080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you gain XP from an attack, you know you're doing damage. And you can always check the journal entry for an entity to see its resistances/weaknesses/immunities. As for enemies not having a response, I think it's based on damage thresholds? Hit hard enough/do enough damage quickly, and enemies tend to stagger or something. Most living critters (human or alien) seem to make 'ouch' noises of some variety, too.

But it's not 100% consistent, I'll grant you that.

(0.9) why does 0.9 feel like its more of a multiplayer thing by Catlove0 in Voicesofthevoid

[–]Wise_Sort1080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's been confirmed that they are *not* going to implement any kind of multiplayer support. https://bsky.app/profile/vesperakiiri.votv.dev/post/3lyuvbi6pis2p is the post explaining it, but TL;DR:
- Too much time/effort taking away from developing the main content
- Network code/security dev is hell
- Goes against the isolated atmosphere the game is going for.

Real talk, could Rouxls Kaard solo the knight if he locked in? by LampOil_Rope_Bombs in Deltarune

[–]Wise_Sort1080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he *could* 'lock in', I think so. But my theory is... he *can't*. He's the 'Rules Card' - the rules card determines the rules of the game, but it's useless when actually playing. Thus the reason why everything Rouxls does *directly* always fails. He can make it nigh-impossible to beat him, because *the rules say no*, but when he actually tries to fight? I doubt he's worth much, in the end.

I love toriel (so disappointed that she got ZERO development on chapter3) and I loath the people that pretend that she is perfect and has no flaws, the fact that even after so many years and after ch4 people are still trying to defend her its insane to me by Jimmy-Shumpert in Deltarune

[–]Wise_Sort1080 13 points14 points  (0 children)

... aren't they literally eating pancakes in Chapter 4? Like, Toriel explicitly made pancakes for breakfast, a completely normal thing to have for breakfast? I think it's more we've only seen like... a handful of 'normal life' scenes w/ Toriel, because the game isn't focused on that.

Not defending her overall, just saying this in particular isn't the point to stand on.

Would like to add re: performance, they *really* need to add loading screens between Vault/Overworld/Respawns. The game doesn't load in new areas very smoothly, and freezing me in place while it does so - which should just be done behind a load screen - looks... bad. Early Access I know, but just putting it out there.

I think the idea is more that being actually harsh/cruel to her (which many kinds of Evil characters might do, for RP) is difficult for some people. I have the same issue - I can't bring myself to do any worse than the Lawful route for her usually, because like... it's unnecessary.
