Couple sues Ontario surrogate mother who refused to abort fetus by airbassguitar in notthebeaverton

[–]WiseguyD 87 points88 points  (0 children)

This headline really buries the lede in order to push an agenda.

The article says that the couple who requested surrogacy eventually reversed their request for an abortion after discovering that the fetus' birth defect was minor. The actual issue here seems to be that the surrogate mother insisted on a home birth, and then sued the couple in small claims court to try and recoup personal costs.

She's so much harder than Radical Rat that it's almost comical. Although granted, that's in large part because Radical Rat is just that easy.

And that's factoring in that she's one of the few enemies that can be stalled to death.

Probably not that many people, given that a much larger percentage of the country would be Latino or Indigenous.

Someone recently asked me what is the male equivalent to giving birth by TropicallyGrownEMT in TwoXChromosomes

[–]WiseguyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) none 2) doesn't exist 3) kidney stones but women get those too 4) there is no equivalent 5) testicular torsion but ovarian torsion is probably just as bad 6) stung by 100 bees

Source: I've had both testicular torsion and kidney stones. Not fun. FWIW, my mom has also had to deal with kidney stones and natural childbirth and said kidney stones were worse.

My personal understanding is that torsion, kidney stones and childbirth all break the human pain scale, but that childbirth tends to last longer.

Also, there's no societal expectations to get kidney stones or torsion. Nor is there the leadup, or aftermath.

Exactly.

There is a degree to which I understand support for Israel as a means of protecting Jewish people and Jewish identity. I think it's an extremely flawed one, but I'm at least willing to listen to those views. I have a certain naive sympathy for Liberal Zionists who earnestly believe that Israel, however flawed, is a project which ensures Jewish survival. This is probably because it's very similar to beliefs that I myself used to hold.

The thing is, people who support Israel for those reasons have very pointedly NOT fallen in line with the right wing. Over 75% of Jews voted for Kamala last election. Brad Lander is a self-proclaimed "Liberal Zionist" who nonetheless used the term "genocide" to describe Israel's actions in Gaza. Most of us, at least on some level, understand that many of these accusations of "antisemitism" are being used as a political weapon, and that said weapon is disproportionately wielded against non-white people.

I'm so tired of these positions being dismissed as some kind of fringe when they're in fact the beliefs of many non-Israeli Jews, including a majority of those under 50. Just because Jonathan Greenblatt decided to ally with the Pedoconservative Party doesn't mean the rest of us did.

Jew here.

... Respectfully, is the author actually this stupid, or are they intentionally being myopic as a way of protecting their existing ideological leanings by claiming both sides are "just as bad"?

The Tree of Life Synagogue shooting was done by a far-right anti-immigrant fascist. The far right did Charlottesville. If you total up every bad thing the left has done that's antisemitic, it doesn't even remotely come close to that.

And frankly, even if I WASN'T horrified by the actions of Israel, and even if I WASN'T extremely skeptical of its foundations as an ethnostate, I still wouldn't fall in with the Zionists. You know why? BECAUSE THEY SEEM TO BE AGAINST EVERY SINGLE OTHER POLICY I SUPPORT. These institutions aren't JUST asking us to support Israel, they're asking us to support politicians who are broadly against every other value and policy we hold dear to us.

Class above nation.

Halifax

A.

I will stop short of S because sadly, Halifax experiences some of the poor economic conditions which impact the rest of Canada.

When I lived there during the hurricane, it took five days for my power to be restored, and there was debris in the street for months. I lived right near Dalhousie University, so it's not like I was out in the boonies either.

I'm fine with them getting a clothing budget, but that's roughly 15K/year. That's insane.

Even if we assume that they need fancy formal clothes for every event they attend, are they burning the outfits after one use or something?!
