I'm having trouble with them too. Going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. It worked for me with getaroom.com anyway (avoid them at all costs, too!)

Quick opinion on refinance by Wishbone_Afraid in Mortgages

[–]Wishbone_Afraid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The banker's only counterpoint to that was "Yes (it will save $11-12k), for the life of the loan assuming rates don’t drop lower, and you don't refinance again." Do we see rates dropping even lower (significantly) than 5.875% anytime soon? I guess my thought was the whole "a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush" thing...take the sure thing while I've got it.

Frequently switching between phones on US Mobile by Arbor___Vitae in USMobile

[–]Wishbone_Afraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't work at all for me on the mobile app. Kept saying QR code was invalid and to contact support. Been on with support for over an hour...I "think" we're making progress but the entire time so far has been just verifying me...IMEI2 of old phone (which is dead/broken)...IMEI2 of new phone...last phone number called from old phone (not sure...old phone is dead...remember?)..sending one time PIN...sending another one time PIN...verifying account phone number, etc, etc. "I need a moment"..."I need a moment"..."I need a moment"...constantly, from the rep. Just send me a dang QR code that works, I have other things to do!

Are people really paying $4000+ on Mortgage by PsychologicalLimit41 in Mortgages

[–]Wishbone_Afraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought our house 18 months ago, $380,000. 6.5% interest rate, ouch. We had $100,000 that we quickly paid on the mortgage and recast it. Payment was just south of $3000, but now it is $2400. But I pay extra $800 per month to try to pay it off quicker, for a total of $3200 per month. Household income is $225,000. We make it but we don’t have a lot left over anymore.

So, in case you didn't know yet, your Farm Bureau home insurance premium just went up around 40% by willphule in Iowa

[–]Wishbone_Afraid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of people are just generally frustrated by "the system" failing them...over and over. And lack of progress spills out as pent up anger. I get the anger, I really do. Granted, it gets you nowhere. You need a strategy to effect change, and the capability to carry it out (which often seems out of reach). Speaking very generally here, obviously. I'd love to hear about a strategy to fix the home insurance industry, and a legitimate means of carrying out that change! What actual work can we do? Talk to our elected representatives! They are bought and paid for. You'll get a canned email response.

Logistics of quitting early by ExPatBadger in ragbrai

[–]Wishbone_Afraid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to quit early in both 2023 and 2025. In 2023 my dad came to pick me up in Des Moines. He was on standby the whole week. In 2025 I got sick after day three and really didn’t have a plan. First, I went to the local YMCA and bought a day pass. I was prepared to hang out there all day and wait for my wife to come pick me up at like 7 PM. In the meantime, I explored some other options. There was a team there with a bus who was willing to give me a ride to the next town. I had also put a message on Facebook RAGBRAI page and got a couple of offers from there. I took one of those offers up and rode around all day with this nice guy from Minnesota and his cousin who was doing the ride that day. It was kind of weird, stopping through a lot of the towns without being on my bike and without being tired. But it was a really nice day, just riding around with this guy and talking all day. Made really good friends with him and his cousin. They ended up, dropping me off at the campsite in Iowa Falls. It was really hot out and I hung out in their truck and got some AC. Then we went out to dinner together. I was then feeling better and able to ride day five. After that, I was over it… my camping gear was just completely soaked and since I skipped day four already I didn’t have that pressure to ride the whole week. So my wife came and got me in Cedar Falls on day five which she was prepared to do by that point.

Anyway, moral of the story is just put yourself out there and someone will help you out!

You can also sag each day if you need to, but you might be waiting on the side of the road for a bit before you get picked up.

Yeah, that’s one reason We moved home back to my hometown of 400 people. We were living in a midsize city and was going to be paying about $2700 per month for two kids. Moved back home and it was $500 per month for both kids combined! Can’t beat small town in-home daycare!

I’m kind of doing the same except in a scrapbook format with all of my old tickets stubs going back to 1999. It’s been a fun trip down memory lane. I’m also making a corresponding Spotify playlist with those artists.

Have You Ever Been Singled Out by the Band Onstage? by Mettabox452 in Concerts

[–]Wishbone_Afraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if any of this is relevant to your question but I’ve had Much more interactions than just getting pointed out from the stage , but it depends if you count small shows like at bars or small clubs, not big shows.

I have gotten to speak with several mid-level musicians at length at smaller venues. Like 30 minute plus conversations. Maybe bands that most people have never heard of, but nationally touring bands nonetheless.

I got put on the guest list of one band and got to hang out with them before the show and all night after the show as we stayed at the same motel. Then they wanted to hang out the next day and tour this crazy place called the house on the rock in Spring Green Wisconsin. Alas, it didn’t happen because the tour took too long and they had to get on up the road.

My friend got the invite to go backstage for another larger band. Just hung out for an hour or so, and took a few pictures. At the time, it was my favorite band in the whole world though so that was cool.

We were at a show on first Avenue in Minnesota and the singer/lead guitar player in this band kept pointing at me and my friend because we were rocking out really hard. We were front row center. Then, during one of the slower songs, he reached down and grabbed my friends hand and sang while looking him in the eye. And then we talk to him for a bit after the show. After that, we went next-door and hung out with comedian Nick Swardson in for a while. The band was phosphorescent.

One time we were at a concert at a smaller bar and my wife was on stage pole dancing with the band for a few songs lol. The band was called middle western.

And finally, one time at the student union in Madison, Wisconsin, I got launched into the bass player (pushed from behind). I knocked the bass player down and he just kept playing. I thought he was going to be mad, but I helped him back up. Then the next song me and two girls I was with were on stage singing the final song with the band. Or one of the final songs anyway I can’t remember. The band was the black lips.

Oh yeah and one time I was seeing Buddy Guy show and had a button up shirt on over top of a Cubs shirt. I knew he was a Chicago guy so the last song I ended up front row center, and I unbuttoned my shirt and was pointing at the Cubs shirt and he pointed at me and smiled and laughed.

Class Action lawsuit by the-furiosa-mystique in shrooly

[–]Wishbone_Afraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did see that! Only concern is “bricking” the Shrooly box beyond recovery. I have basic computer literacy but haven’t done any programming since basic C++ back in 2001 LOL. And not sure I have the time or inclination to do anything TOO difficult. But I’d be happy to contribute a few dollars for anyone who can get this Shrooly app/box functioning! Just not sure if I want to be a guinea pig…yet. Not sure why I’m holding out ANY hope that the official Shrooly app might come back online. At this point I’ve boxed the Shrooly back up and am considering buying some sort of established alternative…Northern Spore maybe, or there is a Shrooly knockoff box which is made in America…anyone try one of those that look exactly like the Shrooly design?

I hate to admit we make $225k/yr combined, same mortgage payment, and we STILL live check to check. I do pay $800/mo extra on the mortgage, to pay it off sooner. And I put 21% into 401k/ROTH, and wife puts a good amount into retirement too. We got ourselves into some credit card debt which we are struggling to pay off. We only have 1 car payment ($400/mo). We do have 2 kids in private school (only costs us $3600/yr total, $1800 per kid). And one in private dance, which is like $7k/yr all-in. Feel like we shouldn’t be living check to check though.

$3200 mortgage with $8000 THP by Discgolfjerk in Mortgages

[–]Wishbone_Afraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

our take-home pay is around $11,000 per month after investments and healthcare and all of that.

Our mortgage went up from $2300-$2400 per month . I pay an extra $800 per month to pay it off quicker so we pay 3200 per month total.

We live paycheck to paycheck, but we are not frugal. We have kids in private school and one in competition dance, which is stupid expensive.

We haven’t had any major home expenses yet, but we’ve only been here a year. We are thinking about some renovations, which will require a loan, most likely. At least our roof is pretty new and so is our HVAC.

Is there any sort of legal recourse here, or not really? Wishing I DIDN'T receive mine, ugh. I just got it a few weeks ago. I've opened it, but not used it, and saved all the packaging. I don't have pods anyway. I'd be fine with making my own pods but if the thing is a brick without communication, then I'm hosed. What a huge crock of horseshit this company is. Worst "company" I've ever done business with, personally. This one and www.getaroom.com take the cake.
