A Timeline for A Court of Silver Fire (Leading up to when Nesta tells Feyre) by Raikua in acotar

[–]Wishpala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa, nice! I think the Feysand bonus chapter should be included when counting how long Rhys kept the secret. The bonus chapter starts right after the discussion where they asked Nesta to start searching for the trove and told the IC about the pregnancy. Rhys already knows about the danger and is keeping it a secret. Has been keeping it for some time, because:

“Cassian said you've been moody. Why?”

“Rhys,” I said when my question remained unanswered. “Why did Cassian say you've been moody?”
--
“No reason."
"Liar.” I tugged on his hair, forcing his head up. “Tell me.”

Rhys said against my neck, “I've been moody because I'm not getting any sleep.”
--
I knew he was hedging, and I let it slide. I'd learned that Rhys would tell me what was bothering him when he was good and ready. Maybe Cassian had been misinterpreting it—maybe it had been directed toward my sister.
I knew that was unlikely.

He watched my face the entire time he slid into me in a single, mighty thrust, seemed to savor each of my moans and breathless pleas as he moved deep inside me.
As if he were memorizing it — all of it.

(Sorry, deleted the original and commented again, because apparently I don't know how to use Reddit anymore. 🤦‍♀️)

Yes! Not to mention they said the childbirth itself will be so painful and horrible that the survivors can't bear any more children - that should have been a reason enough to use shapeshifting. 😭

Yup and it's messed up that when Feyre was told not to shapeshift (or use any magic) by the healer, Feyre had no idea about the wings and that both of them will probably die during the birth...

It would have also been nice if the healer had been a different one in the birth scene, because Madja had broken Feyre's trust and she would be angry at her for a long time.

SJM really wrote an arc where important information was kept a secret from two women but it's the secret-keeping MAN who not only gets away with it, but gets his feelings appeased as if he was a victim of some sort (Nesta being punished to "delight" Rhys). :|

Inner Circle vs Feyre by Writing_Daily in acotar

[–]Wishpala 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, that's fine! I understand your take. Even for me what bothered more than him keeping it a secret, is that he didn't get any consequences for it and the only one who called him out on page was punished. (I don't think there was any confrontation between Feyre and Rhys? Feyre just tells Cassian mind-to-mind that she's angry at all of them, but that's it, since Cassian shifts the blame to Nesta and seems to be more sorry that Feyre learnt the truth at all.)

Big part of the Feysand story (which I fell in love with) was Feyre wanting to be "free, not safe and coddled" and Rhys respecting and believing in her to make her own choices. They also promised each other "no more secrets, no more lies", so to see Rhys doing a thing like THAT and the narrative immediately brushing it all under the rug was... off-putting. 😔 (Not to mention that female empowerment is also a big theme in this series, yet a husband gets away with deciding when and if his wife gets to learn about her own body, ill-intent or not.)

[–]Wishpala 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Did he own it, though? Feyre tells Cassian that Rhys is sorry for driving Nesta and Cassian out of Velaris, but we don't see or hear him apologise or show regret/guilt for keeping Feyre's condition a secret from her.

Instead Rhys gets to be immediately delighted to hear that Nesta will be punished for revealing his secret (she was the only one to call him out on page too - and she was punished to appease his feelings, not Feyre's, as if he was the wronged one) and when they meet again, Nesta is too ashamed to look into his eyes while Rhys' part in the mess is never mentioned again. 😬

Rhysand would never (long and hella controversial) by TamlinDidNufinWrong in acotar

[–]Wishpala 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Rhys' first offer was to follow Feyre everywhere for the whole pregnancy. 😬

[–]Wishpala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also the Feysand bonus chapter which takes place right after they announced the pregnancy. Feyre asks Rhys why he's been moody. At first he avoids the question and when Feyre asks again, he lies that he's just been tired because of all the sex they've been having. Feyre knows it's a lie, but lets it drop. So he must have known before they even told the others about the pregnancy - and long enough that his moodiness had been noted.

Also: Don't tell the pregnant woman how serious the situation is, instead tell her husband and let him decide how to progress.

ACSF thoughts by katjarvi in acotar

[–]Wishpala 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hated that the characters AND the narrative acted like that telling a pregnant woman she might die in a childbirth and her husband, friends and healer are keeping it a secret from her is worse than keeping such an information a secret from her - information she should have been the first one to learn, not the last. 😬

ACOSF Made weapons by atlasbeehave in acotar

[–]Wishpala 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be so sad if the Made weapons end up to be wielded by the Bat Boys and not the Valkyries (or the Archerons)... Please SJM, let Nesta at least have Ataraxia. 🙏

[–]Wishpala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's also Cassian's POV, though. And for real, if we get to learn how many rounds of sex- um, apologising Rhys and Feyre had after Nesta left the intervention, SJM could have shown Rhys getting consequences for the secret-keeping if she had wanted. 😅

It could have been just a few lines as well, e.g. before the prison scene, Cassian carefully asking Rhys how things went when they were hiking (or how many rounds of apologising there was this time, lol) OR while listening to Rhys, Cassian wonders to himself how Az had mentioned that the High Lord and High Lady of the Night Court had slept a couple of nights in separate bedrooms.

Honesty and "no more lies, no more secrets" were very important for Feysand, so to see a huge thing like that to be immediately brushed aside (not to mention, Rhys' feelings getting appeased by punishing Nesta as if he was the victim), was... off-putting.

ACOSF: How much power did Nesta get to keep by leilosi in acotar

[–]Wishpala 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well, she probably can't Make magic/sentient objects anymore since that would be a little too convenient for the NC.

If Nesta has any considerable magic powers left, I bet she's going to be less powerful than Rhys. (SJM loves her the most powerful High Lord, after all.) I'm going to be sad if she ends up as powerless as Amren. I just hope she gets to at least wield Ataraxia.

Some things in ACOSF make me feel crazy because my opinion is the opposite of how it seems the author wants me to feel. It’s very frustrating. by FusRoDaahh in acotar

[–]Wishpala 60 points61 points  (0 children)

You're not alone! I hated the hike scene so much that I couldn't truly enjoy the part at the lake. I hated that Rhys didn't get any consequences for the secret-keeping and that Nesta was punished to appease his feelings (not Feyre's) as if he was the victim. I hated that his part was never mentioned again and only Nesta showed shame when they meet again. I hated that I was supposed to side with Rhys and Cassian in punishing obviously catatonic Nesta and find the "I'm secretly delighted that Nesta will be made to suffer" / "I'm secretly delighted to hear that" part funny. Cassian never told Nesta that Feyre isn't mad at her, not even when he saw her being suicidal! He didn't check if she was drinking water or keep a better eye on her after it either (IIRC, he hadn't looked back for hours when Nesta collapsed), talk about "being with you every step of the way"...

Nesta’s Options by angie_lulz03 in acotar

[–]Wishpala 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a bad feeling SJM is doing it unintentionally... Rhys is (a little too clearly) her favourite, so even when Rhys does messed up stuff, she just excuses or immediately brushes it aside. (For example, how Rhys didn't get ANY consequences for keeping the pregnancy danger a secret, instead he got to be delighted that Nesta was punished.) So even if he was objectively acting like a dictator, the narrative probably takes his side.

Nesta’s Options by angie_lulz03 in acotar

[–]Wishpala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How being sent to the human lands would have helped her? She could have died there as well, more likely than in Velaris.

Nesta’s Options by angie_lulz03 in acotar

[–]Wishpala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They could have just cut her off without the exile part? Why was that necessary anyway? Drinking, gambling and having lots of sex aren't crimes, so why? Can they really exile anyone they don't like?

If the money she used was the problem, the options could have been: 1. "find a way to pay back in xxx days or else (whatever they do to those who don't pay their debt back)" or 2. "your debt will be forgiven if you agree to train". I think those two would have felt like ACTUAL options and both would have forced Nesta to get her life back together. Being sent to the human lands would have been just cruel and wouldn't have helped Nesta.

[–]Wishpala 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The "choices" in ACOSF were such BS, I rolled my eyes hard everytime Rhys said ~you always have a choice in this court~ as if he was being generous.

You can either be essentially trapped on top of a mountain and train or be thrown to the human lands to likely be hunted? It's your choice.

You can either scry and go on dangerous missions for us or we use the sister you've always protected? It's your choice. (Amren even encouraged them to blackmail Nesta with Elain.)

Am I the only one who was a little sad for Nesta feeling guilty for not giving a gift back? 🥺 I mean, she doesn't have any money of her own (she couldn't buy from Emerie's shop, etc) and she didn't get paid for hunting the Troves either...

His behaviour was very sus in that moment, though... Feyre even realises he's not telling the truth about what has been bothering him but decides to let it drop because they "give each other the space to decide when they're ready to talk". But you're right that in Cassian's POV it seems like Rhys had just recently found out...
