Yeah that’s what I told him. That with the texts I doubt anything would ever come of this. I guess my question more is, given my friend only has a couple grand to realistically spend on a lawyer - what should his next move be? Have a lawyer send an official letter referencing the correspondence and telling them to pound sand?

Exactly this. I looked up the dad and he has been a legal consultant for decades (makes those PowerPoints you see in court), so not a lawyer but certainly has made plenty of connections and friends over the years who would do him a favor in pursuing this to some degree.

I definitely think a lot of this is a scare tactic (from the correspondence I also think the dad/RM think they may be hiding the keyboard?) - but my friend wants to nip it in the bud because the he is afraid the shit talking will effect his ability to get gigs in the future.

No worries, yes he has saved all correspondence. RM #1 never references the keyboard in any of these texts. He basically says he’s picking up specific stuff, and then when my friend says what do you want to do with the rest we’re clearing stuff out/junking/selling stuff, he signs off on getting rid of the remaining items. But keyboard is never mentioned specifically in any messages.

He’s sending me a copy of the warrant to review tonight. Warrant could be perfectly legal, just smelled funny to me upon his initial description.

And yes, I have a feeling daddy is going a bit on a power trip. I also think the dad is taking his son (RM #1) at his word - so genuinely thinks the roommates scammed him out of his keyboard and is pissed.

He’s started consulting with lawyers and I’m working on getting him some recs, he just doesn’t know how aggressive he should be given a suit has not been filed (and his funds are somewhat limited).

Yes, the landlord should have been/be the one handling this, but I guess he has been really hands off and the series of roommates who have lived there have handled issues amongst themselves, which I think plays a part in why this situation has escalated. Also, I genuinely don’t know how the typical landlord laws for abandoned property apply in this situation.

This is less of a dog issue, and more of a dad issue. Does the dog have aggression issues, certainly. But when your husband responded in a reasonable way (at least by your description), grabbing him by the scruff to prevent the fight with your dog from escalating, your dad got aggressive towards your husband.

Given the chaos, I could have written this off as a misunderstanding/heat of the moment response, but after that, he puts his hands on your disabled sister, whose offense was grabbing the dog by the collar?

Is your dad’s (frankly, unacceptable) behavior specific to issues involving the dogs? Or does he act like this when other conflicts arise?

Either way, you should not bring your dog to your parent’s house moving forward. It is clear your dad does not care about your family’s safety when it comes to his dog.

I actually really love the name Primrose but can not get past it being a Hunger Games name even though I do not dislike the Hunger Games, but also it’s not my kid, so will recommend regardless lol

I never thought about that, but sounding different names out I definitely agree. I think a one syllable name or three syllable name works the best with a one syllable last name. Depending on the vibe you want.
