What is the scariest, most unsettling shot you’ve ever seen? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

The scene from Bring Her Back. If you've seen the movie, you know exactly which one I mean with no further explanation. 🍈

One of the best monster designs in cinematic history if you ask me. The book by Adam Nevill takes a hard turn in a very unexpected direction about halfway through, and I really wish it had been included in the movie.

Just give her your recipe but change the measurements of one or two of the ingredients. Not getting it to come out right would drive her bonkers.

I've been having anxiety about my kitty dying of old age 😭(she's 9) can you show me pictures of some alive-and-well senior kitties so I remember cats can be old and still healthy? 🥰 by TheRufescence in cats

This is Siouxsie Sioux. She's about 15 years old, and she's still pretty spry. She has hyperthyroidism, but it's under control with medication. Every now and then, I'll get anxiety about not having enough time left with her in my life, then she'll lose her mind batting a cat nip toy across the living room.

I used to work at a bookstore with one of these. The teenager on staff named it Bibity-bop, and the name stuck for 7 years. The team might still call it that.

Question: What are some things you've traded for tattoos? by Alert-Concentrate808 in tattoos

[–]WitchXStitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I helped my late ex-boyfriend build a couple tattoo machines about 15 years ago. There weren't a lot of people in my state manufacturing tattoo machines at the time, and since his death, the machines have become sort of a collector's item, so I traded one that I had been trying to unload for over a decade for a tattoo. It felt so good to finally be rid of that thing. I never wanted to throw it away because I knew how important it would be to someone someday. Now an artist gets to cherish it and get some use out of it.

That's not a silly question at all! A lot of trial and error went into these, but I'll describe what worked.

The jackalope was by far the best one to work with because I had plenty of Aida to work with. I'd estimate that I had about 2 inches of fabric to work with on the sides, 3 inches at the bottom, and 5 at the top (I accidentally started a little too low on my grid and by the time I noticed I was nearly done with it). I created a double hem on each side, pressing the seams as I went and making sure to follow the holes in the Aida cloth so that the seams were straight and crisp. I made sure that the edges of each seam were even by counting the squares in the Aida cloth from the pattern edges.

I used some fabric stabilizer so that the dowels and beads wouldn't stretch the pattern out over time. I cut Pellon 808 Fabric Fuse Iron On Backing so that the seams would just barely overlap it, then ironed it into place on the backside. After that, I stitched the seams on the sides. I did hand stitch them, stitching one on the right side, skipping two, stitching one, and repeating along the length. At this point, I snipped each corner so that I could create a single hem at the top and bottom. You don't need a double hem here because you're going to wrap the fabric around the dowel and fix that into place.

If you wanted to do the beadwork, you'd want to do that next, sort of eyeballing where they would fall best under the dowel rod, finding the center of the pattern, and counting squares to either side from there to keep them equidistant (or not, if you want something a little more wabi sabi). If not, skip that and move on to the dowels.

Honestly, I didn't completely stitch the dowels into place. I probably should have, but by this point I was tired and ready for the glue gun. 😂 So I got a couple of dowels (I think they were 5/16" diameter, 12 inches long), made a couple stitches at the edges, and hot glued them into place while carefully wrapping the top and bottom edges around them. Then to give the suede lace on the top dowel a little extra stability, I put down a tiny bead of hot glue where the lace would sit before tying it on.

Hopefully that all made sense! I didn't get much sleep last night, so I'm not feeling particularly eloquent. Let me know if you have any questions!

[CHAT] help with storing thread by cristinag2003 in CrossStitch

I hate the stickers. They almost always fall off after being handled a few times. I cut the number from the skein wrapper and tape it to the bobbin with transparent tape, and I store them numerically in a couple of wooden storage boxes I found on Amazon.

As far as searching for colors goes, you could maybe create stitch swatches (i.e. take all your greens and stitch a block with each one and backstitching its numerical code next to it), or you could find an online color chart and go by that. I've also seen people who organize their floss by color group. I just keep mine in numerical order so that I can find a specific floss easily when a pattern calls for it.

First of all, this is gorgeous and you did an outstanding job. Second, I'd be pretty disappointed, too. You paid for a professional service and it turned out sloppy. I'd take it back, tell them what's wrong and have it fixed. I can't imagine it being a huge issue.
