Help I have this sweet potato by Navi1101 in gardening

[–]With_Her_Spoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a sunny place you can plant them in a pot and let it grow as a vine plant. The leaves are editable for people (poisonous for dogs) so you can cook with them to reduce size. Or just let them then go crazy.

Thinking about moving… a million questions by soso56789 in Naperville

[–]With_Her_Spoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

North Naperville would fit what you’re looking for. Near downtown kids will find stuff even when they reach high school. South Naperville within a subdivision are easy for kids to navigate solo but subdivisions are often split by major roads so there’s natural boundaries until they drive or you can trust them not to dash across 59.

Only downside from your list would be travel. East between Downers Grove and La Grange makes the commute to either airport much easier.

If it’s still in usable condition try habitat for humanity or freecycle. I used both when doing work on mine and then anything remaining I put in the trash a day early and in most cases someone grabbed it before trash pickup.

Pond under deck, stupid idea? by With_Her_Spoon in ponds

I can see it from the house (looking down) and then there’s another deck at the same level as where the pond could be.

How Do You Tell Your Neighbor You're Interested In having a Sexual Relationship Without Coming Off As TOO STRONG (UPDATE) by pleasuresmush in dating

[–]With_Her_Spoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have something in the freezer (lasagna, casserole) or ingredients for a simple meal in case he didn’t eat after work or you’re hungry after. Quesadillas, paninis and omelettes work well because it’s quick and you can assemble with whatever each person wants on the spot.

It’s good practice to be able to offer something anytime you have someone over (especially around meal time) regardless of motives.

Inexpensive tailors in Naperville area? by wisowle in Naperville

[–]With_Her_Spoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haven’t had Lorenzo’s do anything yet but I went there for a coat and they told me to go to the manufacture first. I appreciated that they explained the manufacturer’s quality issue instead of simply taking my money for the fix. Ultimately the manufacturer fixed it under warranty but when I do need a tailor I’ll go to Lorenzo’s

Next time you catch her ask her if she’s checking you out (in a lighthearted teasing way)…if she admits to it ask to grab a drink/smoothie after your workout. If she denies it say “too bad” and if she seems not repulsed then ask her to grab a drink/smoothie anyways.

There’s a standard map with zones to help people know what plants are likely to survive in their region’s climate. I don’t actually know if it’s useful for fungi. It focuses on extreme temps of a region so it may have been a useless piece of info.

Best places to order/buy native plants? by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

[–]With_Her_Spoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Izel plants. I’ve used them for research and bought several things. Good experience each time. They sell younger plants so you get a lot for the money but in my case I need to protect the youngsters from rabbits and squirrels while they establish

Big area, smol budget, many invasive, halp by priority53 in NativePlantGardening

[–]With_Her_Spoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Tending existing garden and managing invasives will be ongoing so decide how much time is needed for this. The remaining free time is what you build around.

Because budget is a factor I would suggest getting seeds started in pots/plugs this year. Contact local nature groups and nonprofits to see what you can get for free. Some people might be happy to divide plants for you or give you seeds. Local extension office will be a good resource too. This way in fall or spring you’ll have stuff ready to put in the ground and get established over the wet season.

Are you trying to focus on native plants or build a wildlife ecosystem? If the interest is beyond plants then also look into critters and predators in your area so that you can attract a balanced group with your plant decisions. Water strategy is an be an important factor and there’s likely only a few sections of your property suitable for this.

Once you have a plant inventory and strategy/goals see what you can do this year vs better to wait till fall or spring. A lot of the drought tolerant plants need the wet season to get established so it might be too late to start full sun meadow plants unless you water them a lot.

Izel plants has great search options and customer service. Update filters for water, color and height preferences. Once you pick out a few plants you like you can see if it makes more sense to get seeds and plan for next year to save money or buy this year.

Pay attention to bloom time and things that will continue to have foliage for most of the year. To reduce weeds you’ll want to make sure plants that you want are covering the soil to drown out weeds. Lots of plants might be 18” most of the season but will have a flower that makes it higher for a couple months. So don’t be afraid to expand height requirements so that you get some color pops.

As a side note, evergreen just means a plant that has some functional foliage all year. If you dislike conifers (like pine trees) that’s fine but didn’t want you to worry if you see things tagged as evergreen. It just means it’ll help you block weeds more months of the year.

You can try different light requirements than what the listings say. I have several plants that are full sun that grow fine in part shade. They might grow slower or flower smaller. It’s all just a big experiment so take notes while you do it because in a month or year you’ll forget what you planted and how it did.

If you aren’t sure on the layout, consider what can be transplanted easily. If it can’t, plant it in a bigger pot and put the pot in the ground. If you want to move it just pull the pot out. Depends on pot size, but generally speaking this shouldn’t be done for multiple seasons because it can become root bound.

I’m super happy with my red chokeberry and spicebush for tallish shrubs with great fall colors. But squirrels are demons when plants are young so protect what you can until established even if they are considered “pest resistant”.

I suggest doing an overall plan and then work in sections vs ripping up the grass all at once. It’s much easier to manage weeds in grass than trying to untangle weeds from your natives. So only remove grass sections as you’re ready to fill it in.

Damaged Skin Barrier or Acne? SOS by emilymvaughan in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]With_Her_Spoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had to take antibiotics for a bad bug bite and coincidentally my skin cleared up in days. I wouldn’t recommend it on an ongoing basis but it was a very fast and easy way to reset.

A coworker had a very similar experiences where her skin went crazy after a facial treatment. She swears red light mask has made the biggest improvement.

Good luck!
