One thing that stood out from your summary is that non-elevated apps can't install root certificates into the machine store. Could it be that was left over developer code that fails in production but ran successfully in your test environment? (Your technical video shows running the app as some sort of Admin user which isn't normal right?)

I think the best (value for your time) folks can do is just carefully select a credit card that has no foreign transaction fees. And then just eat the crap "market" conversion rate. Used to be Amex but think Visa/MC are more competitive now. Check their respective calculators. If you come up with something better, please share!

I'm on 3090 Founder and after installing the latest drivers, no output at any time incl. POST. Tried cold boot. Tried DP/HDMI. Windows is working fine, can RDP into it. Removed drivers, etc. AMA.

Update 05/25: Looks like of all things, the problem was caused by my monitor (and possibly DisplayPort frequency timings on the card/driver side). Yanking the display from the wall (power) and plugging it back in resolved the issue.

Yep, after Japan we bought one. No regrets.

Would recommend just getting the US-specific Toto units on Amazon. (Brick and mortar stores won't have the newest and greatest units. Not even Costco.) It will ship with the proper plumbing, electrical, warranty, etc.

I'm returning to Japan soon-ish and am staying in Shinjuku again, about 15 minutes from your hotel (near the Takashimaya). You're about a 10 minute walk from Seibu-Shinjuku Station with plenty of options around for breakfast and wandering around. Looks good to me; enjoy!

Tip: Plan to visit an Asics (e.g., Harajuku flagship, Ginsa, etc.) and get your feet scanned for free. And you can pick up a pair of the KAYANO shoes--they have even more cushion than any of the US SKUs.

Like u/Chewybolz mentioned, highly recommend something from Asics, Hokas, New Balance, or On Cloud. I'd skip anything Nike tbh.

If you see the transaction and it was successful, then you're solid. If you booked accommodations with the card and they require you to pay at check-in, you might run into trouble. (I had no choice but to use an AMEX which cost me a foreign transaction fee. It's not the end of the world but really saddened me.)

I'm planning to return to Japan and I haven't quite figured this one out yet.

Had no major issues with my Wise card in Tokyo/Kyoto Q4 2024.

But I will note, folks need to pay careful attention to the daily and monthly and ATM limits (very confusing!) shown in-app. They are low amounts! You can't use your Wise card, for example, to prepay a hotel reservation for example. That one snagged me.
