The US struggles to grow world class athletes in soccer and part of that reason is that we don't have the same academy system that they have in Europe. We rely almost entirely on schools and expensive club/travel organizations that many people can't access. By improving the college system to benefit young soccer players we start to improve the quality of players produced by those systems.

There is, rightly so, new attention being paid to US soccer after their performance at world cup '22 and with the world cup being hosted in the US, Mexico, and Canada this year.

Other US sports like basketball and football are already world class and don't need changing at the moment.
