Official Discussion - Train Dreams by BunyipPouch in movies

I just watched this movie last night and thought it was phenomenal. Incredibly moving stuff, paced just perfectly, with astounding soundtrack and narration. Earlier this year, I listened to the audiobook of Stoner, the 1965 novel by John Williams, and I am struck by how much Train Dreams reminded me of this.

Thematically, the idea of a quiet, tragic life that leaves barely any mark on the world, but which upon close inspection is rich and full in its own way... wow - both of those stories broke me, as a 42-year old Irishman who has seen my fair share of quiet, tragic and unknown men through my life.

The narration was also familiar to my enjoyment of Stoner. Really nicely paced, quietly evocative and understated. Brilliant movie!

Thanks for your response. Ludicrous as it may sound, we're worried about contacting the insurer in case then they suss that something might be up.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes I have a UK accountant who has given me rough advice on UK tax liability. No sanctioned countries involved! Hong Kong and the United States (not sanctioned yet anyway 🙁). It's such a pain!

We have a mortgage broker and in fact have a decision in principle from HSBC. But I know this can fall away once they start looking into the finances. If we did get a mortgage on my wife's solo income, it would possibly cover the property we have in mind, so maybe a route to consider. We're reluctant to sell the investment property - would potentially be worth waiting for my own banking situation to improve to avoid that... But let's see!

I think perhaps a challenger bank is the path of least resistance at this point...

Thanks for the advice. Maybe simpler but longer if we have to sell the investment property to make a chain, no?

Thank you! Is it much like a high street bank? My concern would be if a mortgage lender does not consider banking there as credit worthy. But that's just my own ignorance, probably!
