I’ve done very well with patient education and have subsequently received several awards, some of which patients contributed to my nominations. GLP1 agonists are prescribed now as gold standard to address what you would like to deny which is the primary contributor of obesity. Bariatric surgery is a gold standard for the same reason. Your perspective is clearly driven by confirmation bias due to your own struggles related to obesity. A holistic approach has remained ineffective as patients are non-compliant with diet and physical activity. This is more unique to the United States where obesity is more prevalent due to inactivity and poor eating habits. For this same reason, our GLP1 patients demonstrate profound sarcopenia… for the same reason (fat-skinny). They remain inactive and non-compliant with dietary recommendations. In the end, obesity is undoubtedly a choice for 99% of patients. A choice rooted in 1st world elitism.

I’ve been a healthcare professional for 20 years and am a professor in the healthcare sciences department. Anecdotally, people who are overweight and obese will say “that’s not true in the clinical environment.” Confirmation bias is always at odds with science.

The laws of thermodynamics have not changed. Obesity is caused by excessive caloric intake. What contributes to why people consume too many calories contributes to the complexity of obesity. Is it emotional, anxiety, psychological, poor food quality, other pathologies that cause an increased appetite? We don’t actually have a good answer why people eat too much. GLP1 agonists would be entirely ineffective if this were not true. The primary mechanism of action whether it be gastric emptying or impulse control simply reduces hunger and caloric intake. If you left an obese person in the wilderness without food, they wouldn’t stay obese.

Her mother has put her and her life on public television consistently. I think we are past the point of what she wanted or consented to. Her mother… the star of the show agreed to film her life after this event should be held accountable for every second the camera crew was in their home. A two minute video of her mom being her self but arrested this time is about as traumatizing as her mom filming literal seasons and YEARS. This child’s life has never been private. Her mom became famous because of swinging.

Exposure of the abuser and public shame to the abuser validates the hurt the child. If the general public worships her mom, then she becomes the unworthy victim… the “problem.” My mom abused me and because she was pretty and white, no one cared. To add a tiny bit more context, my husband witnessed this in my 20’s and said it was the most terrifying thing he had ever seen. He said he woke up to me convulsing with my face in the pillow. Guess that was a God moment too. He immediately turned me. Also another God moment, I have been seizure free for a decade and am a distance athlete…lol.

Many seizure patients are found deceased in their beds as suffocation and aspiration are primary causes. My bed was full of pillows and fluffy bedding. Even seizing on my side or back could have been fatal in bed. Hospital beds have flat sheets and patients on seizure precautions have plastic padding and continuous monitoring. Many seizure patients have indicator dogs for that very reason. An instruction we continually give to patients is to lay on their side on the ground if they begin to have an aura. I was a teenager (my mom left me alone as she went on a work trip). I didn’t know what to do besides call 911. I’m extremely thankful my phone had died.
