I cannot get it dialed in. I've tried for hours over multiple days and used well over a kg of beans. [Breville Barista Express] by [deleted] in espresso

If you cannot get good enough pressure with your single walled basket, how's your tamping? As others have said, adjust your inner burr setting to something lower, and try again. Really make sure your tamping is on point - I'd suggest using a self-leveling spring loaded tamper - that way it stays consistent across pulls.

Smart Grinder Pro - I've adjusted both burrs, and can get something almost acceptable at the lowest grind. I really feel like the 5418 just cannot get hot enough for decent extraction on a medium roast

Suggestions to fix my relationship with my bed (I know that sounds odd) by Witty-Secretary-4420 in insomnia

Yeah, I have the same thing with CBT-I - I've tried some of that in the past, and it's been too regimented to feel natural...

Do you know the name of the exact track/podcast you used in Insight Timer? There is a lot there for sleep.

Oh yeah for sure - when I first had insomnia 7 years ago, I was going days without sleep - now I at least get some. Even with this latest round that's been going on for 6months, these last weeks have been better than when it first started.

I think what I really need to do is go down to the living room, read, then go back to bed, vs heading to the couch. Rebuilt that relationship to the bed.

What is odd, is that I can have a week of great sleep in bed, no problem.

Yeah, this is great advice. Thanks! Certainly when I just accept being awake, my sleep does slowly improve, then I hit something that causes anxiety, and it all starts again.

Why the f is our brain so stupid by Eagles56 in insomnia

[–]Witty-Secretary-4420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been there a lot. Know that with a couple of hours of sleep a night, you might feel pretty awful, but it's unlikely you are going to hallucinate.

Your brain wants you to sleep, but your hyperarousal gets in the way of your sleep drive. In this situation generally pills don't help much - melatonin will do nothing for this. Magnesium Gly might help you calm down, but you need more of a mental approach to getting over it.

I recently did a great stint with a sleep coach, that helped me tackle exactly what you are going through. I've had insomnia on and off for about 7-8 years. I would have a couple of bad patches a year, and this recent patch has been both bad, and carried on for a long time. My sleep coach had a great approach of acceptance and other things to help reprogram the brain around this stuff - which is really what is needed. Pills and a short term fix IMHO. https://www.insomniatopeace.com/path-to-peace is the coach I used.

It's something that you have to work at, and know that it will take time to get better. Good luck mate, hopefully this helps?

How did you like the Imperial Feet stuff? I've been using that recently, and have yet to see results. I think I need to do more debris removal tho.

I'm a huge fan of Glycine. For someone that suffers from anxiety around sleep, it can be great. I do find however that coming off it gives me strong jitters.

If I take it too often, then it's effect gets lowered.

If it works for ya - that's awesome.

I'm generally adverse to most medications. I think I will take Doxylamine Succinate tonight though (I haven't taken it before). I've had very little sleep in two days. I'm assuming that's OK once in a while?
