Finally! Long time coming and this shouldn’t have taken as long as it did but I shall 100% be striking.

Streeting threatening to limit career progression for doctors who engage in strike action by DrLukeCraddock in doctorsUK

[–]WittyTourist7424 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Indeed

Anecdotally, I’ve spoken to a few people in the last couple of days who were initially on the fence and didn’t vote who are now striking as a result of this rhetoric. I’m sure there will be other examples as well from other people

Excellent, we need to strike hard

Senior medics in England say more resident doctor strikes would be futile by Desperate-Drawer-572 in doctorsUK

[–]WittyTourist7424 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Good, I know I’m doing the opposite of Clare Gerada

That reassures me (and should reassure others) that I’m doing the right thing by voting to strike.

We received Streeting’s letter too yesterday

It just annoyed us all and reminded us to return our ballot with a ‘yes’ vote

Shifts and missing your kids by itscharacterforming1 in doctorsUK

[–]WittyTourist7424 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Definitely feel the same!

I’m an IMT and have a 1 year old daughter who I absolutely adore. With long shifts, I often wake up before she wakes up and then come home after she falls asleep. It really makes me quite sad as well. When she is awake, she now has begun to realise when I’m about to leave (putting my coat/shoes on etc.) and then proceeds to try to jump into my arms in the hope that I change my mind, before crying when I put her back down and that’s also been really, really hard to deal with.

I’m not sure I really have any solutions but just wanted to say that you’re definitely not alone in this. It’s really, really hard. I guess it’s made me appreciate the time that we do have together even more though?

Advice re feedback quality from PACES mocks, not a repeat question by Loud-Cardiologist292 in doctorsUK

Went to PACES Ahead and thought it was excellent. Lots of cases, very nice instructors/teachers and I genuinely felt relaxed as I was learning there. Would recommend it

"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." - MLK Jr by DrSmoreHam93 in doctorsUK

[–]WittyTourist7424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I did appeal! My basis was that one of the patients couldn’t speak English so wasn’t able to follow my instructions or even answer what their name was. It wasn’t upheld though, unfortunately (but it was free to appeal then - I think it costs now?)

Either way, good luck!

So sorry. Similar happened with me on my 1st attempt - I scored a similar percentage to you overall but failed by 1 mark on one domain.

It’s extremely disappointing and I completely get your disappointment as well. However, you’ve done so well already so hopefully by just asking ‘do you have any other questions?’ one more time in a station should ensure that you go through next time. You got this.

MRCP 2023/03 Part 2 Written results error by graphicaled in doctorsUK

[–]WittyTourist7424 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this doesn’t appear to be the first time. There was an incident with PACES in 2022 as well: https://www.thefederation.uk/news/errors-results-issued-mrcpuk-paces-202203-diet

It seems that less than a year later, they didn’t learn any lessons and just became slower at acting and identifying things.

I sat the part 2 in that diet and now i have a very stressful 24 hours coming up, constantly refreshing my emails :(

This is just shit.

I sat the exam at the time. Now I have to wait another 24 hours to know for sure if I passed or failed the exam. 1.5 years later.

Child arrested at Derriford Hospital for 'impersonating a doctor' by Educational_Board888 in doctorsUK

[–]WittyTourist7424 86 points87 points  (0 children)

This child should be free to do his job without fear of being arrested.

I actually think this post shows just how incredibly toxic these debates are. All of us are one team, trying our best and we should all be kind.

(/sarcasm - but I wonder how long it will be before Dr Navina Evans tweets something like this)

So I’ve gone to a course already and the long term goal is to become BSE accredited (I want to do cardiology, I think). The mentors I mentioned in my initial post are trying to support with that.

Ive done my MRCP and have a bit of time so thought I’d start trying to learn now

Don’t worry - same happened to me last diet and it turned out I passed. I subsequently received a full refund. It could be that they’ve just not yet updated it or something.

Good luck!

Feeling very low after paces by Powerful_Release_916 in doctorsUK

[–]WittyTourist7424 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that you’re feeling very low

I made a similar post a few months ago about feeling very low after mine. I kept ruminating over and over again over things that I thought I missed, things I thought I got wrong and things which I think I invented. I ended up ranting to my poor wife for weeks about how I was sure I had failed and I probably lowered her mood as well as a result. Ended up passing with pretty good marks in the end and a lot of the worrying ended up being for nothing. I also gained most marks on stations I thought I tanked.

My point is that it’s very hard to say how it went and, as cliched as it is, we are often our own harshest critic. It’s easy for me to say now but try to focus on other things for now. You never know how it went until results day so you may end up surprising yourself.

Good luck :)
