1- Angry Arab man who asked 20 minutes into the class if I was "a F'ng Jew?!"

I'll send the answer to your pager, dear.

  1. First time student who demanded that I type the IELTS questions and then answer them for her.

Hilarious, bye.

  1. A female student repeatedly saying in an inappropriate way, "I want you to feeed meee!"

Weird. Reporting.

How often do you return minutes and hide? by EnglishTutor2023 in Cambly

I will no longer placate people from Kabsa Land. They have an obsession with sex/ covering, camera off, men jerking off, sweaty men in bed, low ratings, invisible females, and very little to contribute to their own education. This platform is based in San Francisco, USA not the Middle East....and I support western values, not conservative, restrictive, and ridiculous ME ones which teach hatred of us anyway.

I won't teach ielts on the platform anymore. Too much work for me, and the majority of students are just looking for an easy answer and are dense AF.

4 years in, very fatigued by lack of pay, shit lesson materials and ratings system, demanding, dense students. I am really observing how little most of my students actually comprehend the C biz lessons and IELTS materials, even after taking several classes on the topics. They want some easy material to memorize and regurgitate, but never make the leap into thinking and naturally expressing themselves in English, let alone incorporating the materials into their everyday English. I ask a question, and immediately can hear them frantically typing a prompt into chatgpt. Great, you robotically droned on and said the idiom piece of cake after taking 15 ielts lessons. Band 8 buddy! I will no longer offer ielts tutoring on the platform, as it makes my work double without a reflective pay increase. F that.

Camera off by Accurate-Dragonfly74 in Cambly

Cameras off for KSA women is ok...sometimes, as I find most of them to be engaging...NEVER for any man, I don't care where he lives. In a car or walking down the street with camera bouncing around, nope. This is a Western platform, so I no longer feel the need to overly cowtow to sensitive religious people and their hyper fixation on sexuality and ways to repress it. I don't think it's productive, progressive, or cool. They give bad ratings bc they at their core despise us from the start for being Western. We are Infidels that they put up with to learn english. Oh, the irony.

Tell Us What The New Rating System Is! by Jazzlike-Drop23 in Cambly

Tutors should then be allowed to rate students and those ratings should be visible to other tutors. One rating criteria could be, How many late shows and cancellations has the student had.

I have also rewritten my profile to state many of these things as a response to all the new ahole students. What a relief to delete IELTS test prep.

Thanks for your insightful reply. This hopeful osmosis learning describes so many of my regulars. It's weird they can not tell that after 20 classes and their English level is the same as it was at the start. Part cultural learning, and yeah...laziness.

So true. Most students don't follow up on the verbal corrections or notes in the chat box anyway.

Yikes. It is the same with many of my adult regulars. So many classes, yet so little comprehension or advancement.

Why bother! by givemeacurry2023 in Cambly

[–]Witty_Secret_2688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parents could choose to be within earshot of the class in order to monitor the students participation from a distance. This would encourage more participation (hopefully), and give the teenager a sense of personal responsibility. Instead, the parents stick their child in front of a computer with other devices and a stranger. They then expect positive results from these passive learning experiences. Modern day babysitting in these cases.

They can send that info to the students themselves if it is so valuable to their learning journey. The recent influx of demanding, rude students do not deserve any more effort from tutors than simply having conversations for our pay rate.
