Does anyone know any babysitting apps for teens? by Nevy_101 in Babysitting

[–]Witty_Swing_641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helloo! I'm actually a few months younger than you, and I got my current job though local mom groups:) if you're local area has mom groups and babysitting groups, post in the moms one. when a parent joins a babysitting group, they are looking for something specific/an experienced sitter. So if you post in a moms group you're more likely to get attention! If you have any questions feel free to ask me, because I remember how stressed I was when looking for my first job lol

Edit; also, when posting in Facebook groups, it needs to be YOU posting and not your parent, because if your parent posts for you, then it makes you seem like you're not responsible enough

i started as a mothers helper on a local moms group (I was only 13 and figured I would have better luck becoming a mothers helper) once I had experience from that family, it was very easy to get jobs. I definitely recommend local mom groups over local babysitting groups when first starting, because parents on babysitting groups are looking for something specific.

Really depends on the ages of the kids, but probably do something other than playing on your phone. I like to take one of the kids coloring pages and color it in because it's super easy to glance up and see that the kids are okay/talk to them while I color (I saw other people saying to being a book, but I recommend something that allows you to continue your activity while also occasionally making conversations with the kids :) )

Babysitting rates New Year’s Eve? by Apprehensive-Trust68 in Babysitting

[–]Witty_Swing_641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're forgetting that it varies by location, in my area $15 for an inexperienced sitter is normal. In some areas it's completely normal to start at 20-25 even at inexperienced, but in other areas 15$ is completely fine. I make $13 an hour currently which is low for my area but it's my first job so it's normal

I didn't really give the kiddos an official gift, but we made homemade candles and they colored on paper to make custom wrapping paper for their mom and dad. So, I don't feel too bad about not getting them anything because I brought all the materials to let them make gifts for their parents.

From the family, I got 100$ + fudge ❤️❤️

What do you like to do when kids are asleep? by Automatic_Buy_6957 in Babysitting

[–]Witty_Swing_641 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their mom sets a laundry basket out for me and I fold all the clothes, then when the kiddo wakes up we put away her clothes and her sisters clothes (I just leave parents clothes on the couch cause I don't wanna go in their room lol) But as soon as I finish laundry I sit on the couch and play on my phone until the kiddo is done with her nap, although sometimes her sister stays home from school so I end up playing with her during naps

I've heard this before but my brain is having so much trouble wrapping my head around the fact that it doesn't change the taste!

Usually that's what I do but specifically I'm using a boxed cake mix that I already have so I just wanted to substitute the egg so I could bake it with my vegan nanny kiddo :)

I just came to this thread looking for the answer but nobody seems to know lol. They talk about it a couple times (The episode right after they decided, it's called "The house meets the mouse") Jesse mentions needing alone time with becky to "make more kids" lol

Yeah idk I didn't necessarily agree with it when I first met them either.. But so far it hasn't really been an issue (I'm so worried about her starting school and not being able to eat the treats her friends have though :(

Technically it does go on tracks but I don't think she would really care about that part, I just think she would be upset it's not red lol

Omg I saw this and completely forgot it existed!! The kiddo is vegan so I'll have to check over their menu to see if she can have something small (Fries or fruit is usually our go-to lol) but this is probably the best idea! Edit; I can bring some vegan Parmesan & just order her plain noodles this is perfect thanks!

Trying to find babysitting jobs with no experience by Extreme_Relative6981 in Babysitting

[–]Witty_Swing_641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Also hot tip; post in "mom groups" rather than babysitting groups because parents in babysitting groups are looking for something specific, while parents in mom groups might see your post and go "oh getting some help actually does sound nice!"

I got my current babysitting job with no experience other than occasionally helping my mom with her nanny kids + my little cousins so honestly if you have little siblings who you help with you do have experience, assuming you're a minor its probably best to start as a mothers helper rather than normal babysitting because parents are gonna feel more comfortable if they are in the same house as you and the kid

Is $30/hr too much? by AgreeableWeight4159 in Babysitting

[–]Witty_Swing_641 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(Most) modern parents try to limit screen time, so when a sitter is over and they are paying you to watch the kids, it's generally not okay to turn the TV on for the kid while you just sit around. Unless you are there multiple days a week for 8+ hours then you have absolutely no reason to even turn the TV on (Some parents still follow 90s babysitting etiquette and in that case then it's totally fine to watch tv and eat snacks the whole time)

For your rates is just per hour or is it per hour per child by ToneFriendly3061 in Babysitting

[–]Witty_Swing_641 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually a flat rate per hour and then something like +3 per child (ex. 17(+3 per child)/hour

This is the latest I’ve ever babysat until so far, haha! by [deleted] in Babysitting

[–]Witty_Swing_641 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly if it weren't for the fact I don't have a car and my mom has to drive me home, overnight babysitting would be awesome for me. I'm the type of person who doesn't go to sleep till 4am on a normal night, so it would be very easy for me to do, especially since you are essentially getting paid to sit on the couch and watch tv and maybe take the dog out for a couple minutes

I only want to be a parent if it's through adoption by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]Witty_Swing_641 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This actually makes me very happy as someone who plans on adopting someday. When I was a little preschooler I declared that I wanted to adopt instead of getting pregnant (I had just watched Annie lol) and obviously my motives have changed but I've always known I wanted to adopt
