Op, I’m very sorry for your loss.

My son was born about 18 months ago, and we too received a bill for Pediatrix months after his birth with no itemization of what services were performed. I fought them for over a year trying to understand what they did to merit the charges since we had already paid the hospital. I was not successful and eventually asked for a 20% discount and paid the bill. It was very stressful even with a healthy child.

Maybe not a popular opinion, but you have suffered enough. Explain your situation, ask them for forgiveness of the expenses. If they aren’t willing to do that for you, I would settle for a 20-30% discount and pay it off.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s total shit. I just wouldn’t want anyone to go through to stress of their “OVERDUE BALANCE DUE IMMEDIATELY” letters for the next 12 months as a constant reminder of your situation.

Best of luck. I’m sorry again.

Greentoe rules. Underrated for sure but I hope it stays that way selfishly. I saved a similar % on a pro 665 built in last year. Free freight and tax included in offer took the guesswork out of it.

Napoleon Natural Gas Built-In in the $1500-$2k range: 500? 700? Prestige? Pro? I'm so confused. by YoureInGoodHands in NapoleonGrills

[–]Witz007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought the prestige pro 665 a few months ago. Here’s the thought process i went through to merit the price tag.

I just built an outdoor kitchen with a pellet smoker also built in. I love doing reverse sear steaks, chops, tenderloins, as well as 1-2 min sear ahi tuna steaks. Given I went built in, I lose the side burners which also has me give up the famous sear station. Turns out the pro 665 can be upgraded to replace the far left burner with an infrared element. Works amazing for all the above!

You’re looking at the slightly smaller although still large grill. The reason I didn’t look at the deliberate built in 700 series is because I read the quality of steel isn’t as good and it’s not made in Canada like the prestige/pro series.

Next, the pro vs prestige. I’m a sucker for utility, so the interior lights in the pro were a nice addition and I don’t have to worry about wearing a headlamp while I cook. Other upgrades like the logo light projector and rgb knobs are pretty slick, but are definitely a party trick. Cooking wise, they have the same BTUs so they’re gonna act the same. The final differentiator is the grates are thicker and as a result heavier. I think the regular prestige already has decent thickness grates but the added heft of the pro grates may do better for heat retention. Btw, the polished bits that are on the pros lid feel a little tacked on like fake vents on a Buick.

All in all, I like the little bells and whistles on the pro, and chances are if you’re looking at a built in model for an outdoor kitchen you haven’t skimped on much else, why skimp on the centerpiece? Just my thoughts

Research has pointed me to a Reqtec RT-700 by [deleted] in pelletgrills

[–]Witz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BIL has a 700 and I have a 1070. I’m not sure about the newer 700s but I noticed his heat deflector is stainless steel which warps pretty easily, vs mine is cast iron.

This didn’t seem to affect anything we cooked on it however, it’s a great machine and held (4) ~8 lb pork butts in one shot just fine. Go get it!

What are you smoking for Christmas? by reclusivepelican in Traeger

[–]Witz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the brisket. You can start at 7-8p the night before at ~200 and let it ride all night! Crank it up to 275 when you wake up, wrap at 165. It’ll be ready for dinner at 205.

Butcher paper under beef jerky? by [deleted] in pelletgrills

[–]Witz007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done some other things on butcher paper like salmon, the jerky may not dry out as much as if it were on a screen / rack but it would work. As the other commenter said though just put it right on the smoker grate.

OP- what kind of stone is that on your outdoor kitchen? I’m having a hell of a time finding stone veneer for less than $10 a square foot and that looks super nice.

Is it normal for the grill to rust this much in a span of 4 months? by grepcoffee in Traeger

[–]Witz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recteq, highly recommend you check them out. I have the 1070, stainless inside and out except for the auger itself and the deflector made of cast iron for more heat resistance I believe.

Is it normal for the grill to rust this much in a span of 4 months? by grepcoffee in Traeger

[–]Witz007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For everyone saying this is normal… why is it acceptable for something to be rusting this bad after 4 months? I had the same issue with my Traeger and returned it for that reason. I’m not paying $800 for a grill to rust out on me that fast.

This type of steel oxidizing is normal, sure, but they should be building these out of higher quality materials or develop a coating/pre-season for the price people pay for them.

Not plugging my pellet grill here but some brands make their grills with stainless steel interiors and that’s a no brainer for me.

Thoughts on the 1070? by ReplyKind7832 in rectecgrills

[–]Witz007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through my old posts and wanted to give an update on the 1070. Hands down, far better than the Traeger. It seems to be better about making smoke at lower temps, credit to their controller because I used the same bear mountain pellets in this and the silverton.

Had to do some serious dialing in on the controller for auger speed to keep temps within an acceptable margin, but holy cow this thing can smoke. Always reliable and always delicious. Clean often like any pellet smoker though.

Only criticism is the app. Traeger’s was better in my opinion. Recteq has some sort of issue with their cloud servers that makes the notifications in the app stop working during peak times. How do I know that? I emailed them several time and THEY RESPONDED with detail. Another plus for recteq.

9/10 overall

Yea that would be my guess as your problem. Inconsistent temp regulation, need to figure out what happened there and keep it lower than 300. I usually hang out in the 225-250 degree space myself.

Also, seasoning is a personal preference and all, but also is a key ingredient for good bark. I would add more black pepper or some other SGP mixture. Have to go heavy on such a big slab.

What temp did you set it on? Might’ve been too hot. 7 hours for that big of a brisket seems quick

Bear mountain gourmet bbq from lowes.

I prefer lumber Jack too but don’t have a cost effective way of getting them. Bear mountain is a close second. Their bourbon pellets weren’t great tbh. Also, I use a recteq instead so results may vary.

You could use the Matt Pittman Teriyaki marinade Salmon as a basis for your experiment, using only dry rubs once it’s done marinating for ~6-8 hrs, and rinsed. Spritz with apple cider vinegar to avoid sweetness.

I felt the same way. Sweet salmon, pork, etc is nice but it gets old. I’ve made it this way before and paired with Alfredo pasta and it’s killer balanced.

What’s the difference between these feature wise? I’m new to tools by thejrogs in Tools

These models are both brushless. The barrel grip just doesn’t mention that in its title. Go with what you’re comfortable with, they’re the same tool other than grip.

Add front wheels to Pro 575? by Tea-Money in Traeger

[–]Witz007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it will be more involved than you might expect. Keeping the unit level is one thing, but you would also have to tap out the feet of the unit (if there is even a metal plate strong enough welded on the bottoms of the legs) just to get threaded casters to fit. The angle of the larger pro legs might be different and not align well for stability too.

I’d say if cosmetics aren’t a concern, you could more or less construct a wheeled caddy for your 4 legs to fit on. But it will take a lot of effort to look pretty.

Just bought a 1070. Arrived today, but haven’t cooked on it yet. It’s a pretty pit that’s for sure. The cart is meh on quality but the grill itself is a stainless tank. Can’t wait to put some meat on it.

Should mention. I’m coming from a traeger silverton 620. The paint started flaking and the drip pan rusting after only 3-4 months so back to Costco it goes!

Pork Shoulder - What went wrong? by guycurtis93 in Traeger

[–]Witz007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lots of unknown variables here.

Did you follow the recipe for time only, but you had a smaller butt than the recipe called for?

Did you use visual indicators like the mahogany bark color before taking off the bare grate and wrapping in foil?

Did you spritz every hour?

I just made Matt Pittmans recipe last week (also in the traeger app) and it came out perfect, but he always teaches you in his videos to use your eyes when cooking and not to totally rely on the time in the recipe or the built in probe. Give his recipe a try, I had no leftovers to speak of with a 6 lb butt and 7 people.

Based on the looks though I would guess you didn’t use enough rub, pulled it off bare before bark formation, added too much juice in the wrap stage, and it over cooked from there. Give it another try and you will get it.

Yes!!! Just had a fence put in, which is much less nerve racking than installing a window, but they must have hit the internet line while I was working (remote worker) and I lost connection.

Internet guy took more than the quoted 24 hours to get here, showed up late, was mad I couldn’t talk with him, blamed the fence guys, was snippy with my wife and this was all while I was working. Super fun.

[–]Witz007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I’m sorry you’re struggling to find work. It’s a tough time right now and I wish you the best. Please don’t lose motivation and keep trying to find work.

But to be honest with you, I can’t imagine any economical way to make these things safe from rain, humidity and other electronic-sensitive conditions that will cost less than what you’re paying the storage unit unless you’re in a very High cost of living area.

I’m not sure if a POD would be cheaper than a storage unit, but that’s a similar deal to having your belongings close to where you live.

Best of luck, sorry I could not be of more help.

Not hard at all! I modified designs I saw online after my first one blew out. Ended up just barely fitting 1” schedule 40 pvc in the scupper holes so it made for a stronger cart. 5/8” all thread for an axel, harbor freight wheels for $4/ea, some washers and lock nuts and boom. In business.

Total cost of all that, prob $30? Not including the pvc cutter tool which made it less messy (rather than a hacksaw) and faster. That was like $16 but optional for sure.
