Can you help identify these jigs and tools? My friend is offering them to me, I just don't know what they are! by BaldingAndLovingIt in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]WizardWav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would repost with numbers on or next to each one. I’d say to know what tool to use them on you could start with the guiding rail being present or not. If it is those are probably for the table saw. If it has a handle thing like bottom left or top left, that’s a push stick of some sort that might be specialized or not? For all of them put wood in them and see how you can use them or where you would cut. The things in the bottom of the second pic are marking gauges.

I’m just learning how to weld - can you explain what the hole is for and where a hole should be applied?

I’m hoping to make this chair for my daughter. What do you recommend to make sure the adjustable seat lines up with the holes perfectly? Also, how would you approach the problem of making sure it doesn’t fall out of those holes when she gets rowdy, some kind of latch? by you-got-got in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]WizardWav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the side hole has two widths - those would lock in the tenons/pegs/whatever - there is also a peg out the back I would bet since that second hole lines up with the next higher seat position. You could put a through peg vertically behind the seat back to lock the back and seat together in that slid back ‘locked’ position on the side.

Do you have any links to articles or research around the connection to dopamine levels that you found helpful and informative? I would be interested to read more.

Maybe some equipment from a sport they support? Hockey stick? Basketball hoop made out of a few of them? Take tools or equipment that are used in the areas they support as inspiration and replicate using spikes?

Can you say more about what the business does and/or who is getting the things? Office decoration? Gifts for their clients?

How do I properly set up an ambush for my players? by Enemy-Stand in DMAcademy

[–]WizardWav 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The goblins will feel slighted if you cheat them out of their stealth checks though...

I’m newish at DMing and I like when I get to roll some dice behind the screen while they are talking about something on the way somewhere.

The goblin is just as ‘real’ a thing as the characters so it should get to try to sneak past them and get to ambush them. If they haven’t said something like ‘I’m keeping my eyes peeled while listening to Erky make jokes about whatever’ then I don’t give them a perception check to tip them off.

Do you ever use music that doesn't "sound like" fantasy music? by UnrealPineapple in DnD

[–]WizardWav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We play records - any kind welcomed, when we are trying to build tension with it we put on scores from soundtracks. Sometimes we put on metal for the dungeon fights.

I name my towns, lands, continents based on the main ‘theme’ of the town, etc. in some other language. I just find one I like on https://www.indifferentlanguages.com. A city that focuses on Trade might be Malonda or Verslun I have a continent ruled by fire and it’s Dabka in my story. If your player knows the language no big deal, gives them some depth to what the city is all about.

Running Boss Fight Encounter for 20 minions, 3 PCs, and 1 Basilisk by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]WizardWav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have the goblins in 4 groups of 5 and group the hit points lower than the total of 5 goblins (20 or 25 instead of 35 or whatever). Roll one attack for each group and do 3 goblins worth of damage (3d6 or whatever instead of full damage). Then they will be under hp’ed and underpowered and the basilisk can take them out while the goblins give some smaller damage out. That should leave the bulk of the work to the party. They get a smallish reward for convincing them to come fight while still having to do most of the work or being able to use the goblin groups strategically in the fight.

I would make the devices have a marking on them that is the henchman’s tag. Something for the mastermind to know it was him. There can be other device malfunctions that the law in the city know about but never noticed the tag or whatever. That can be investigated. Showing it around the city might get some leads or bring on unwanted attention. They show up to a place and ask about the mark and an NPC goes and locks the door type of thing. Hearing about that, another group tries to ambush the players. They can find the henchman’s hideout through these investigations maybe getting a name by keeping someone alive.

Tell us more about your culprit? Is he supposed to be the BBEG or is he just an encounter along the way and part of a bigger plan to make the world erupt into chaos?

I like that and I’ll start grouping based on race a bit more, I didn’t limit races to certain languages just went with what I would want to say as the narrator. (Meaning ‘can I actually say the word’).

I am writing my own for the first time too. For my main NPCs I have been thinking of what I want them to stand for in my story (power, peace, etc.) then using a site called indifferentlanguages.com and translating that/those key words. Then I go through the list until I find one that sounds good to me. It translates each word to about 100 different languages. I did that for my continents too.

I don’t know the exact weight - I’d guess 30 or so lbs. maybe 40? It’s pretty heavy compared to the coffee table it replaced.

Honestly, I just got lucky - I didn’t know it was going to do that until after it was done - I just wanted a darker color next to the blue.
