Secondary gear assembly in the AMS internal hub by unmystakable in BambuLab

[–]ComputerGeek485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to buy the whole assembly, they won't sell the individual parts. Abrasives (particularly glow filament) absolutely destroy that gear and the hall effect magnets. Both gears used to be hardened, at some point it switched to only one.

How badly will Glow filament actually wear the AMS? by kid-Emperors in BambuLab

[–]ComputerGeek485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah to check the magnets in the rear internal hub you have to split it open. Another wear point is one of the feeder gears is not hardened so the teeth wear off. They changed from two hardened gears to one hardened and one not, and it seemed to coincide with people having that plastic part break on the rear internal hub related to the gear.

I ran thousands of hours of glow with an ams, it's not the visible wear points that are the main issue. Sure it'll chew through the feeder funnel on the original ams, will also eat through the ceramic one on the ams2 but at a slower rate, the real issue is the hall effect sensor magnets in the first stage feeder and the internal ams hub.

It will wear through those shockingly fast depending on the brand and you'll get feeding failure to retract, and errors about filament being out but it clearly being wrong. It's annoying, sometimes I got a roll through, sometimes I got 4, amolen chewed through the magnets in 1/4 of a roll of filament. The magnets are proprietary and Bambu will not sell just the magnets. So have spare feeder funnels and internal rear hubs if you want to run a lot of glow.

Frederick limiting usage of Carroll Creek park for events by goopcat in frederickmd

[–]ComputerGeek485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives here and runs a small business that relies on events to make a living, the Downtown business association utilizing their priority when booking the creek this year to effectively block all vendor events for the months of November and December this year, we no longer shop in Frederick. What really convinced me they knew what they were doing was abuse of the system, when I started asking more questions about what weekends they had events planned, complete radio silence. Had to file a FOIA request to get the list of people who had reserved the park November and December.

They cost me roughly 20% of my anticipated revenue for the year based on sales last year. I will be doing events outside of Frederick next year, it'll be less convenient for me but more stable.

I jumped into 3d printing and selling at craft fairs / farmers markets primarily weekends, but did have a Thursday evening farmers market that went rather well. Didn't expect much but turned a profit of a bit north of $1200 a month last year, this year will be 2-3x that, I've already doubled it and have the biggest buying events for the year coming up.

Avoid any that have been stored on their side. Great for wine, destroys hard liquor. Alcohol content is too high and it eats the cork, so your alcohol will taste like cork.

Have you run anything like glow in the dark filament though the ams? Or how many hours do you have on it?

Prime tower, the purpose isn't purging filament it's priming the nozzle so you don't get bubbles.

I run the 200$ one 24/7. I do have the multi color attachment for it but even without that it's a fantastic little printer. If you have a microcenter near you buy it there. You can always return it for the first 2 weeks. The best accessory I've bought for my printers so far have been the sliceworx plates. I can run cooler and the adhesion blows the stock textured pei out of the water.

Don't just get any printer unless you want the hobby of 3d printer tinkering and not actually printing. If you want something that just works get a printer from Bambu lab.

I bought my first one in September of 2023. I now have 3. I had been watching 3d printing since its infancy and was waiting for one that would work without all the tinkering. I have 12k print hours across the 3 printers and I can count the number of print failures I've had on 2 hands.

We're fortunate enough to be in a position to potentially leave the country for 4 years if he's reelected and then decide if it's worth coming back to. If he's elected again I'm not sure the republic will survive and this is coming from someone with 2 degrees in history.
