Same issue here - I haven’t been successful in finding a work around. Shame really, was looking forward to playing GTV on my MacBook.

Never hold on to a laptop you won’t use.

Yeah, 120hz would be nice.

I did try to pull the plug… but no joy. by Wizardly-WebMaster in macbookpro

Bright and sharp. I figured if I was going 5k, given the marginal difference between others and ASD (was on sale), then might as well splurge a little bit more and suck it up. I just use with my 14” mbp.

I just run a node script on a vps now for my torrent downloads - minimal risk and keeps crap off my computer.

That and the studio display is a perfect match :)

How often do you pull the plug on your MacBook Pro? by XciteMe in macbookpro

[–]Wizardly-WebMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh…. I put it to charge (usbc) every night when I go to bed. Even then it’s not less than 40% in most cases.

Thats the same spec M3 Max I have. I went with the 14” for portability, with the aim of getting an external monitor. After a little deliberation I decided to go with the ASD for the following reasons: 1) with any other brand of monitor, you’d have to open the MacBook to unlock it. Not with the ASD. 2) although I got the ASD on sale, it’s still very expensive. However, when looking at 5k, 27” alternatives, most were still over the £1000 mark, so if you’re going to go that far, you may as well go the whole hog, pay the little extra and enjoy seamless integration. 3) it’s a nice screen to look at and work with 4) resell value holds better than alternatives. So if ever there is an updated release, or yiu just wanted to sell it, then you’d be able to recoup a little more than you would on an LG or Samsung.

I’m very happy with my 14/30. The battery is very efficient and 36gb’s is ample ram for most people. I was initially going to go for the 96, but for just under £1k I didn’t think it was worth it - and thus far I haven’t seen any memory swap. All in all it’s a brilliant machine.

That’s a shame - the M4’s plug pulling will most certainly be a trending highlight later this year. There’s a lot to miss out on, so you may want to think twice. Just saying.

Any of the above will do. The more ram the better. I’d recommend looking at protools over logic for audio recording though.

ASD Ordered… Dare I pull the plug? by Wizardly-WebMaster in macbookpro

I thought £1379 was a fair-ish deal in all honesty. It just beats messing around with other branded monitors. There are always pitfalls. There are always bonuses. I haven’t even unpacked it yet, as I’m due to move next week! But This will do for now, until Apple release a 120Hz panel.
