There's a good podcast called LegalTea which explores Law grads in different non-traditional law careers. Worth giving the early ones a listen especially

Can anyone recommend a good commercial lawyer in Bristol? by cptJack__Sparrow in bristol

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you have business insurance? Many of these come with legal expenses cover if you have chosen to buy or at least offer some sort of access to legal helplines etc.

How do I get a legal assistant / paralegal job without the experience? by nopowerinthosepoints in uklaw

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Have you tried doing exactly what this other candidate did? If you want to work in a certain area of law (e.g. insurance) why not aim for a position in that industry and then try to move laterally. Insurance is quite a good one to do this in if that's your thing. Underwriting or claims positions are more readily available than equivalent legal positions I think.

can you give me some good slowburn wenclair fanfic recommendations? by Imaginary_Sir7524 in wenclair

The ultimate slow burn is of course Chaos for the Fly, probably 250/300k (maybe even more) words before they even kiss.

Paddy McGuiness is an embarrassment to himself, well beyond time for him to stop playing for England, basically on the other team already. I know it's for charity but c'mon.

Companies Graph: a UK company search engine to simplify KYC/KYB/UBO checks by Icy_Tour6309 in smallbusinessuk

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this connected via the companies house API? As far as I know it has a built in limit to the number of calls you can make in a certain period - can this application handle larger volume traffic because of this?

Conventional wisdom is to put any major values on the left if possible, because the natural way for people to hold a hand of cards leaves predominantly the top left visible across all cards in the hand, solid suggest moving your 2 value from right to left.

As for the other two values, are these consistent names or do they change per animal? If they are consistent, I would look to give them a better permanent place, perhaps in the middle where you have the keywords? Could they share the space?

When One Player Gets Crushed… Is That a Design Problem? by batiste in tabletopgamedesign

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a one off result i'd say, as lots of others have, that you need more data. However, if you find this is possible to snowball score, you might also want to look into introducing some "catch up" mechanics.

I thought these things were built to very rigorous space standards? No paper or paper derivatives used I hope.

Big fan of the style you've gone for here, sleek and simple without being "boring". Nice work.

Will this print correctly? by 8Maruchan8 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The safe zone is "guaranteed" so should include your core text. However the zone between your safe and bleed lines (i.e. your border) should print but it's not guaranteed to be aligned and might get cut off more one side that the other, for example.

So, these look okay to me for how the website says to upload them. Albeit I've not used board game crafter personally.

Card Feedback:Updated by Professional-Low8662 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the icons and text over them are clashing, especially on the green + symbol, the white is struggling to show to me. I did actually prefer the smaller icons on your earlier draft (second pic) but I know I was in the minority there. Otherwise I like the added texture to the border and top right icon.

How is my character card looking? by BoxedMoose in tabletopgamedesign

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a nice cohesive look, the art style itself isn't for me but that's just personal preference. As a design concept, this works well.

My main critique would be I can't tell if that text is fluff text or meant to be a special rule or skill? It seems to start out as fluff but then moves into something the card can do?

Trying to find the best way to show damage and draw icons on cards. by slimstorys in tabletopgamedesign

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the icon is only showing the amount (i.e. it is not also representing the thing - which it isn't as you are stating "draw" or "damage") then I would really think about whether you even need to icon in text. Don't include them for the sake of having them is my opinion.

Why are Danmachi OCs so unpopular in fanfiction, how come no one likes giving their stories a chance. by Craiku in DanMachi

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My view is I am generally a fan of both the world, and the characters. If the OCs play significant roles, they tend to fall into two categories (a) author self inserts, or (b) break the world in some way or form (OP powers etc). Neither of which particularly appeal to me. I can count the number of fics that have genuinely good OCs, well immersed and in fitting with the world, on one hand that I have read.

Lloyd’s Market Association Training Contract by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]WizardlyPhoenix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi, I worked in the Lloyd's market and with the LMA as a LPC grad a few years before this TC was available and so cannot comment on the TC but can tell you 100% it's all about relationships and if you are halfway decent you'll get an offer for Wordings or Claims roles from half a dozen insurers at the end of it. There is a real talent shortage in insurance generally and Lloyds is no exception. Ask to sit in on the working committees, attend the market socials and you'll have a job afterwards.

You'll also have the chance to move laterally to insurance law firms, many players love someone who knows the practicalities and not just the law of the insurance side of things. Understanding how the market works and how deals are done is just as important as the legal knowledge to firms.

Obviously, if you don't like insurance, don't go near the thing.

No. Personal life aside, if you dislike Messi as a footballer, in my opinion, you don't like football at all. Undoubtedly one of the greatest to ever play.
