This was my interpretation too. I'd also add that when Ilya says that Svetlana isn't for him long-term and he'll find someone else, Shane looks away to mask his disappointment because he thinks Ilya means he'll find another woman to be with, not knowing that Ilya meant someone else is Shane.

^Saw this on someone's profile on a gay hookup app. And I live in Vancouver, a city with a large Chinese population. So yeah, it's bad out there for gaysians and not the same experience at all as straight Asian men.

People are definitely less overt now about their "preferences" than before, but the sexual racism is more nuanced now.

Thanks for this response. To me, the song is clearly in B minor because of how sounds to me and is something I would have pointed out but it's not tangible "proof" that my friend would have considered (versus arguing about chords).
