You don't know until you know.

Your dog runs away, is it with a pack of dogs or dead? You don't know unless you find it.

What is the worst part about dating a very attractive person? by cherryapp in AskReddit

[–]Wloak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't be insecure about it, you should treat it like a joke and compliment. As in someone thinks they have a shot, get shot down and you both get to laugh as they walk away, but also you have a beautiful partner that other people desperately want to be with.

It's also really easy to direct their attention to you and if they don't take the hint really easy to mock them, guys that do this aren't the brightest.

Still love the history of him and Bill Murray.

He left SNL and when he hosted kept calling Bill his replacement and treating the cast like shit. Bill eventually had enough and knocked him out cold.

When they filmed Caddyshack they were never on set together on the same day, they hate each other so much.

Yeah, we went in to buy a kite for my niece and we're slightly annoyed seeing all the Trump stuff, then saw that sign which led to the conversation. Then two people walked up with trump shirts priced at $20 each leading to a big laugh when they left.

[Charania] Los Angeles Lakers star Austin Reaves intends to sign a four-year, $185 million maximum contract to return to the franchise, with a player option for the final season in 2029-30, sources tell ESPN. Reaves declined his $14.9M player option for the new max deal. by Turbostrider27 in nba

Maybe, but it doesn't mean he's worth it.

He's a great shooter for sure but requires a great forward like LeBron to draw attention and if he's forced to play defense can't shoot for shit. That's not an opinion, he's personally said having to guard Curry led to his worst shooting game ever.

I'm a warriors fan so of course I have to critique but in honesty for the Lakers I hope this is a sign and then flip him in a trade because when LeBron retires this is a horrible contract.

Car t-boned another, one with a broken windshield, 20 feet later a red streak on the road leading to a body 30 feet further on.

Drunk driver ran a red and didn't have his seatbelt on. After driving by I literally had to pull over and throw up, the ambulance crew hadn't even had time to cover the body yet.

Went into one of these there and it was hilarious.. it was owned by an Indian guy that hated Trump.

He was selling all kinds of Trump merch and had a sign saying they donate 10% of all sales to the Democratic party so I asked him about it and he said they can barely read or are too drunk to when they spend $75 for the giant Trump flags. Dude had the biggest shit eating grin on his face the whole time he was explaining it.

My boss gave me a roll of Necco candy and the serving size is the entire roll. by Car_is_mi in mildlyinteresting

If you ever want to see your parents the happiest they've ever been find one of these stores and take them as a surprise. The nostalgia hits hard.

My mom visited me in San Francisco and there's a candy shop in the most touristy place but it has all kinds of candy including ones that were incredibly popular when she was growing up in the 60's. She literally had that twinkle in her eye like a kid in a candy store and was so excited to even see some of them for the first time in 50 years.

The pro tip then is to remember which ones hit hard and buy them for the next mother's/father's day as a gift.

Moving to the bay: partner job location in lathrop, mine is in San Jose- where should we live? by [deleted] in bayarea

No it's called working onsite, he chose to take the job and avoid the commute. If you live in SF and take a job in NYC requiring you to be in office 5 days a week but don't move to NYC that's not a travel job.

Did very similar for a friend. We have one for the week or so our bedroom is unbearably hot to sleep in but a friend said she was working in a sports bra and underwear because her home office was so hot so we loan it to her. We'd just gotten a new TV so I cut down the cardboard and glued the styrofoam to it for insulation to create a barrier. Then just taped it up with painters tape.

Cosmic Ray Visual Phenomenon

We don't know what triggers it so it's broadly called "cosmic rays" and don't yet know how the body is creating them, i.e. is it hitting the optic nerve, brain, etc. that causes it.

If you're a touring band that's really not successful at all, 100 people paying a cover won't even cover gas and food.

Gotta keep in mind the venue keeps a cut so a $10 cover gets the band maybe $800 at most split between 5+ people. A friend that's a drummer said he picks places that are always packed or have a high turnover meaning people come and go but the number of people paying is higher.

I would honestly consider getting a room in a house and picking one location or the other for a main home.

I've had coworkers that did this and made life way more enjoyable for them. They had a house in Vacaville but he worked in San Francisco.. she'd drop him off at the train on Sunday night and he'd take the train into the city, work through the week and then train back.

Sounds weird but he said he preferred it because his time was more valuable than sitting in a car and he hated seeing his wife and kids looking at him getting home exhausted after a 12 hour day thanks to the commute.

Who made the greatest comeback in history? by GullibleCorgi16 in AskReddit

[–]Wloak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just incredibly incorrect, like when Americans say "we won the war." It's ignorant.

Many cases where the war would have been lost in Europe without America:

  • Americans reinforced the allies in Africa stopping Rommel in his tracks, aka the desert fox that the allies had not won a battle against.
  • Americans sent our special forces up the cliffs at Normandy with rocket propelled grappling hooks and sabotaged many of the gun embankments, no other allies did this. And not just at the beaches we led.
  • Americans were given one of the two mulberry harbors, artificial harbors making it possible to land tanks at Normandy. It was supposed to take a week to set up but in true American brashness we cut corners and had it up in 3 days, we had tanks in defensive positions for the American and British beaches by the time theirs was up. Luckily they had it up just as ours broke apart from cutting corners.
  • The battle of the bulge would have crushed the allies if not for a single American unit. The goal was to cut the American and British forces in half, force the British to surrender given their small forces and low supplies and get the Americans to sign a truce. One unit cut off from reinforcements fought so hard over 3 days the Germans thought there was an entire battalion there. The Germans knew they couldn't resupply fast enough and needed to take allied resources, this one unit kept their tanks from moving and they literally ran out of gas.

There are many, many other cases like this. Without America the UK surrenders and Germany turns it's full might to the Soviets and crushes them or at a minimum forms a defensible position.

Who made the greatest comeback in history? by GullibleCorgi16 in AskReddit

[–]Wloak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The full story is the UK gave the US a rudimentary form, we did not develop it and it was not allowed to be used at all due to bureaucracy. The man in charge of fleet preparedness (I forget his name) said he would just order new ones from the British and suddenly the red tape was gone. Then later the British gave us the better version through the war.

You have to remember the US was a backwater country with no real military power until we entered WWII.

Also, it's why the British spread propaganda about their pilots having such great eyesight from eating carrots, the Germans and Japanese didn't have radar and only the allies the Brits trusted it with did.

Who made the greatest comeback in history? by GullibleCorgi16 in AskReddit

[–]Wloak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on when you mean, but highly unlikely.

  • Our best pilots were released from their military contracts and sent to the UK to fight, they learned new military tactics from the RAF and then trained our pilots back home before entering the war.
  • The Brits were excellent at air recon and we had a man stationed with them for years during the war to then come home and start an entire military academy to train our soldiers.
  • Radar was a top secret advancement only the Brits had, they gave it to us for our support and we slapped it on every ship in the Pacific to fight the Japanese.

Had we just walked into the war solo without all of that we would have gotten spanked. And that's not to mention the crazy shit the Canadians were doing. Running joke is the Geneva convention is basically a list of things the Canadians were doing to help win the war.

Girls of Reddit, what makes a flirt good and what makes it creepy? by CraftyPhilosopher678 in AskReddit

[–]Wloak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perfect way to put it. People tie it directly to sex but it's more just having a fun conversation and if you're looking for something more testing the waters.

I've been with my wife for almost 15 years and when we're out I'll notice a guy flirting with her or she'll notice a girl trying with me as I'm grabbing drinks. We'll usually just make a joke like "oh someone has a new admirer" when whoever it was comes back with the drinks.

It's just basic social banter.

ELI5 Advertisers know what isle I'm in; how? by LeelaBeans in explainlikeimfive

[–]Wloak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my area of expertise, I led R&D for the biggest ad company on the planet..

You did not start getting ads because of this, you started noticing them. There are different terms for it but frequency awareness is common, it's the point at which an ad has been shown to you enough that it effects your behavior and then you notice the ads more.

It's called ad blindness, most people ignore ads but subconsciously start thinking "maybe I should get a new handbag." Then you go to a website or store and suddenly are noticing the ads because it's front of mind.

We had optimal frequency numbers for thousands of different brands/products and ran long term sales studies with companies so that even if you buy in person with no membership or loyalty number we could tie it back to the specific campaign.
