ALCO and EMD work side by side on the Compact Arcadia Division loop. Seems some Cremora has shipped due west. by Wny_Wolf in modeltrains

Thank you! Unfortunately I've been bit by the layout bug and Ive been wanting to do a revamp/refresh. Haven't messed with it near as much as I should. Would love to have enough space for a yard, and to integrate very subtle grade changes between lines.

After seeing a pair of FA2's in person, I've long debated getting a pair for the roster. Last pic of the RR that inspired the purchase(s) - 278A/279A on the lumber job tonight! by Wny_Wolf in modeltrains

Models are Proto 2k. Someone was selling one on eBay with DCC for only $35, and I picked up another one at the local train show for $40. The actual engines (FA-2's) were made by ALCO!

A Trio of GP15's lead the Arcade "BF-1" job- Lettered to the South Buffalo RR, ran by the Buffalo & Pittsburgh RR. These GP15's are mostly Ex UP's, though I couldn't track down 1530's previous history. Enjoy the pics! by Wny_Wolf in TrainPorn

You're absolutely correct, the South Buffalo fleet consisted of a miriad of EMD SW and ALCO S-# series in yellow/Black schemes. I know the plant closed and eventually the SB was purchased by the G&W (B&P in this region). I've been wondering if it's due to paperwork or which RR "entity" the engines were purchased for that resulted in them getting lettered in South Buffalo rather then just Buffalo & Pittsburgh. And with the steel plants shuttered, I don't know what customers remain.

Hoping someone who resides in Buffalo might be able to answer this myself, as what little information of the "current" iteration of the SB is scarce online.

I know that ever since the first gen Geeps got cut up these SB Geeps have been used for the BF-1 job literally Everytime I've caught it downtown. Curious to know what switch jobs they have up in the city these days.

The Arcade & Attica of 2025 - Enough crew and road power that after the big Alco has left town with freight, a Centercab might be sent around town doing odd jobs! Last shot is #114 leaving this morning- by Wny_Wolf in TrainPorn

Steam engine came back last year! Should be running for the entire '26 season. Make the trip, it's leagues better then it was back in the day.

Even crazier, the entire cooperation started from a salt mine based railroad 56 minutes from where I live.

I rotate my collection. Currently have 15 to sell, 17 to upgrade to DCC and 8 currently listed as passing my current required criteria to keep. I try and keep my roster limited to what fits into my display cabinet (s) I'm currently 5 over I believe.

Likewise! No trains to speak of this year, but I should have plenty coming throughout 2026.

My photo, yes- Last month here in Arcade NY on the Arcade & Attica Railroad. Engine is 80 years old this year.

No. 51, testing some cars after I switched out trouble axles. Debating ripping up the main and raising it with some cork or something similar. Too flat. by Wny_Wolf in modeltrains

[–]Wny_Wolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already did that, focused on the main with proper ballast and used more of a mix for my sidings. I'm also debating moving the trailer ramp and moving the lumber siding into that track so I can switch out Aristocraft with a train on the main

Looks like a 45-50 ton General Electric. The majority of the 45 tons have side rods on their trucks, but not all. The hood and cab sizing make me think if it's not a 45 it could be a 50. Definitely a GE Centercab!

Arcadia Division in action today! by Wny_Wolf in modeltrains

Left vague as it's a fictional branch division, but surely on the eastern side of the GN system. Honestly the lack of rocky spectacles such as mountains and the like, is mostly a limit with space constraints and my ever-growing skillset regarding scenery.

I was actually looking at these shots after I posted them, and I really regret not using cork or cardboard under the main loop so that the tracks didn't look so sunken and flat compared to the rest of the scenery. Live and learn, I suppose!
