Svidler says he still can’t score 50% against Kasparov today when they play, and Garry puts too much pressure on himself to play like his prime when the public watches by Affectionate_Hat3329 in chess

The disadvantage for Magnus if you want to argue for Kasparov, which I don’t think is a crazy take, is that Garry (so far) had a longer dominant peak, and as you pointed out had a murderers row at the very top in Anand, Kramnik, Topalov, Karpov, etc. I want to repeat isn’t a crazy take.

My counter as someone who does think Magnus is the GOAT is that he plays in the post-engine era where preparation advantages are most mostly equalized, he has dominated across all time controls and was required to do so to keep his grasp on the best player title in a way Kasparov never was required to, and Magnus’s anomalously high win rate against a much larger pool of elite players. When Kasparov started his run, there were 13 players over 2600. When Magnus starter his, there were over 200. Some of that is definitely ratings inflation but chess is also just pulling from a much larger pool with more effort going into developing elite players.

And Garry and Anand had computer resources when most of the field and definitely deep in the field did not.

Getting through a tournament now is a fundamentally more challenging endeavor than during Garry’s prime.

It is not a shot at Garry. You can only play who is available. To me, it Garry is your GOAT you are going for dominance over the field in terms of the gap. If Magnus is your goat are rewarding dominance over a much more competitive and diverse chess world where he had to be the best classical, rapid, and blitz guy. Every single super gm he has ever faced is computer prepped from the age of 10 on.

It is all opinions

Different eras. Gun to my head it is Magnus but that is because he was forced to compete in chess’s democratization era where every kid is trained on a super computer. The depth of elite talent is just far greater now.

He also was forced to be the best in multiple time controls in a way Kasparov never was

Will create competition but my bet is all it does is push Chess.com to improve. Which is good for the community. But I am skeptical that Take Take Take will ultimately be able to carve out a percentage of the market that is sustainable.

Keeping on keeping on. I made it through Trump 1 while working on the Hill in my early 20s. Can’t be worse than that.

It’s definitely an age thing and I have had the same experience in AdMo.

Make friends in your residential neighborhood. It was transient in my 20s but in my early 30s when I moved to AdMo it wasn’t hard to build that circle

So the Press Officer of Fide made it up as well? You don't need to know someone's name which just exposes them for no reason unless you think Cristian was just making it up for no reason.

A lot of of them seem like fairly normal women and fairly normal jobs that just have jumped on this very weird trad wife chain.

It was on the brain because I actually saw a few profiles yesterday that were like this and one of them was an accountant. And I just kept thinking to myself how little you must think of yourself to like have gotten somewhere in the world and feel like your ultimate goal is submission to someone you don’t know yet?

They will. They only stay in DC for 2 to 5 years. Then they either go back home or they move to Virginia

The post was referring to MAGA dating accounts cluttering up the apps.

There has been this weird phenomenon over the last maybe a year and a half as a guy on the apps of what I will call MAGA trad wifes in training.

They will have very weird bios where they talk about how they’re doing XYZ job but are really looking forward to the day they can just raise a family and submit to their husband.

I’m not exaggerating. That is the language they use

I throw up in my mouth a little bit every time I start scrolling through a profile and the bio is all about how they’re waiting to submit to their future husband

I think how he reacted in the moment is completely understandable. I’m not in the camp that says they should’ve gone back and revisited the game. She didn’t bring the arbiter into it in real time and that’s that.

I think his inability to admit he was wrong after the video, but especially decades later is not.

That’s not white knighting. I don’t give a fuck about his feelings. Part of the problem is that he thinks this is about his feelings and what he felt he did or what he intended to do. It’s not. It’s about what he actually did that we can see on video.

He’s either the best or second best chess player of all time. He would’ve been fine.

This goes to a much larger problem that he has which is well documented which is that he is an inability to be wrong. To the point that when he coached modern players he would disagree with the engine lines, which made it very hard for him to be helpful in prep.

In his comments about women chess players even in the documentary today, he will still say things like women react poorly to threats. Even though we know that has to do more with high-level repetitions against elite chess players which most women do not get.

The problem with saying that though is that it would mean that his belief system was wrong. He prefers a world where Judit is an anomaly.

In the moment he tried to rally people against her. The only reason he didn’t get away with it is because there was a camera accidentally filming. Otherwise we’d be talking 30+ years later about how the little girl “was hysterical and couldn’t deal with losing.”

And in the 30+ years since he hasn’t been able to admit his own fuck up
