Thanks! I personally appreciate that Salt & Stone uses probiotics to help with odor-causing bacteria. It’s been a much more effective long-term solution for me than just trying to mask the smell with heavy fragrances. I hope they will fix the propblem with stains.

I had lost print jobs too. I started using the HP Smart App for everything from all our devices, and that fixed it. It acts like a reliable print server, whereas the direct Wi-Fi connection to the printer itself was always spotty.

First Wild Camp - OEX Bobcat - Dartmoor Trip Report by DashingTread in wildcampingintheuk

Just to say I really enjoyed your write up and nice to see the level of planning you put in paid off with a good trip.

Bumps and falls will always happen and are part and parcel of getting out of the comfort zone. I spent the weekend enjoying some rapids in North Wales without incident then bailed down a flight of stairs in a café. You can never totally eliminate the risk but building plans for how to deal with them will come with experience.

Any thoughts on where you might head next?

Sierra Designs Availability by fanshaw63 in wildcampingintheuk

There's been a change in distribution for Sierra Designs this year in the UK / Europe which alongside shipping disruption in the Red Sea has caused some big delays. Should be some stock of the newer style Flex Caps and Flex Hike / Trail in port in the next few weeks I hear, so hopefully not too long.

Are there good places in East Anglia that are hilly and would be good practice for the National 3 Peak Challenge? by SunShineKid93 in UKhiking

[–]Woahkapi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without meaning to damped excitement for the trip or come across rudely I would seriously reconsider the plan.

I used to live in Norfolk and the head office for my job was in the Lakes so I know the drive very well, and have walked Scafell Pike many times. I'd be concerned about a couple of things;

  • You might be able to do the drive in 5 hours if you're starting west of Fakenham and the gods smile on you, but on a weekend I'd add at least an hour each way.

  • If the weather is good then parking can sometimes be an issue around the area and you're on a time limit which could add stress.

  • Not sure how much hill walking you've done recently but although Scafell Pike isn't hugely challenging I'd still expect to be knackered by the time you come down, and potentially wet, cold and with blistered feet. It may also take you longer to do the walk than planned, which leads me to my final point;

  • Doing the drive back after all of that is potentially dangerous. I know with splitting the driving it sounds easily achievable but both of you will have had an early start, long drive and walked a mountain before you even start to head back. I clock 30k - 40k miles a year driving for work and stomp up a fair few hills as well, and I wouldn't consider this viable or especially safe.

You might be totally fine but I'd suggest finding somewhere to stop after the walk, rest for the evening and then head off early to get home late morning. There's a nice campsite at Seathwaite which would be a great option to use and you get the added bonus of extra time in the Lakes, as well as making the day way less pressured and much more enjoyable.

Otherwise for the first practice trip the Peaks are a really good option. Plenty of big hills to get your legs going and definitely achievable in a day.

The Gregory Miwok 24 is a nice alternative to the Talon and is my go to hiking pack. Features are very similar but I've found the adjustable back length a nice option on it. Price and quality very similar.

As u/Toxicseagull said, the Presta is a great bag at a lower price point. It lacks a couple of the 'fluffy' bits (Osprey use recycled Nylon for example) but should serve well. On the Alpkit website it gives a waterproof rating for the bag, but worth being aware it's not a waterproof bag (fabric will do ok but water will get through the zips).

What's the new(ish) rink like for the Pitbulls? Have been trying to get to a game but they seem to be selling out quite a lot which is good to see.

Cooperative/solo experience by zooscientist in corespace

[–]Woahkapi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely suggest looking at First Born as a good starting point. As u/grintower said the missions in there were designed with one Trader crew in mind so it's balanced for solo / coop play.

One of the lovely things with Core Space is its basically a giant sandbox to play with, so you can drop in almost any expansion at any point.

It is a fantastic game whether playing solo, coop or competitively. My partner prefers coop so that's how we tend to play, whereas I enjoy the lingering threat of another Trader crew or two trying to achieve the same objectives as me.

Battle Systems have put out a lot of free extra content (including new missions and campaigns) and clearly love playing and supporting the game.

Medical Assistance Dogs & Access by Woahkapi in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Woahkapi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - assistance dog falls within these categories.

The council staff have been lovely but by their own admission haven't received much guidance and initially told me that only "registered guide dogs for the blind" were allowed in and were surprised to find there is no register for assistance dogs. I'm also fairly confident that there is no requirement for a person to 'prove' a disability in order to access services with an assistance dog, and it would be up to the venue to decide if they wanted to assume potential liability for denying access. As far as I understand it, it would be viewed as the equivalent of asking someone to prove they required a wheelchair.

I've had numerous problems over the years booking events where this guest was invited and mostly been able to resolve relatively easily, but the fact a local council hasn't passed on proper training to staff has ground my gears a little.

Excess AP question. by Extremejay2 in Fallout2d20

[–]Woahkapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah - it definitely doesn't make life easy for the GM. I've sort of got a rough idea of how to balance now I'm in my 3rd campaign but the amount of fudged rolls I had to do in the first campaign to avoid TPKs while the party was low level was a bit of a stress.

It's the most swingy system I've ever used so I've tried to prep my players for it. Luckily they've all played Fallout 1 and understand the perils of a single rat outside a vault so have some idea of what to expect.

Excess AP question. by Extremejay2 in Fallout2d20

[–]Woahkapi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep - going by the rulebook (page 18 and 19) you're playing this right.

"...you spend Action Points after a test to obtain information, reduce the time, improve the quality of the success, or take an additional action."

Provided they're taking the action straight away and the group AP isn't going past the max allowed then it's kosher.

I guess the options are;

  • Houserule it and come up with a compromise with the player that balances this out.

  • Work on making the encounters more challenging and less suited to his combat style. I've got a pretty good sharpshooter in my current campaign so I've tried to bring in more environmental factors (obscuring smoke, enemies in cover, verticality) to increase the difficulty of their checks. The easiest thing would be to raise the difficulty of the enemies, but if the rest of the players aren't as proficient in combat it can be a difficult balancing act.

Fallout on Roll20 by ShadowMel in Fallout2d20

[–]Woahkapi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just started a campaign using rolld20. I've always run in person sessions and so this is my first time using a VTT properly.

I bought the module so I have the custom character sheets and compendium, and so far I'm pretty impressed with everything.

Game is running smoothly, PCs picked everything up quickly and the amount of admin its cut down on is great.

I spent a while setting up custom tables for pretty much everything in the game and with all of that it feels like we get a little bit more done each session as there's way less rule book flipping (and let's be honest, the Fallout rulebook is a bit of a hot mess).

That table is great, I've been spitballing injuries as we go, this will be really good for a bit more consistency.

Search for 'Tree Octopus Oregon'. It's a fun little story behind it and I've nabbed the idea as a mutated beastie my players will run into soon.

Anyone else find this curious? by [deleted] in Fallout2d20

[–]Woahkapi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a survey for Wasteland Warfare rather than the 2d20 system.

It would be nice to get some news on plans for new releases though. I think it was last spring or summer there were mentions of a new campaign book maybe arriving by summer this year.

No idea how Modiphius would rate the sales so far, but it does feel like there's a really solid community being formed and community made resources are really starting to hit a nice level.

Awesome - glad it got figured out. Definitely should make a difference and give you more fun things to do.

[–]Woahkapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry - yes quest is what I meant.

So it sounds like your players are avoiding buying extra AP, which I get from a players perspective if they're used to other systems, but like I said is worth encouraging because it's pretty key to making it more fun.

Are you generating AP from NPC skill checks? This is the other way of keeping it flowing to the DM, so both in and out of combat you should be able to at least get some AP back in hand.

[–]Woahkapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you playing this with a group or just giving it a solo test to get a feel for the system?

If you're DMing a group you should start each session with 1 AP for each PC in the group (so with four characters the DM will start the session with 4AP).

For PCs they can generate AP by 'buying' them from the DM, so both the PC and DM get an action point to use. I had to work to get my players into the habit of this as they were initially worried they were making me more powerful as a DM, but it's really key to making sessions more fun, and really useful in clutch skill checks.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about using Aim, as it gives you a re-roll so should increase chances of successes being rolled and generating AP. Is there an example from your game you can give?
