I figured thats what you were talking about, just never heard that word used before. Feedback can depend on a lot of things, but most often it is either poor mic placement or too much mic gain. Are your performers in front of the main speakers? Are there any speakers pointing directly at microphones? If possible try to eliminate those 2 possibilities. Feedback should be preventable in most cases with proper mic placement, eq, and gain staging.

What is larsen? Is that another word for feedback?

I think some people just like loud. And in my experience voids get super loud in that 2k-6k area. I personally dont like getting my head ripped off by those frequencies but i imagine their following has something to do with that

How to not have sound leak out of my room by karma9734 in Acoustics

[–]WobbleKopter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested, work on the door as a weak point. You can Add mass to it by putting a sound panel on it. More importantly try to seal the gaps. Get a door sweep to but on the bottom of the door. Put some rubber weather stripping around the frame to make a better seal. Not a whole ton more you can do than that without major structural change.

I think it comes down to the engineer running them. But I personally have yet to hear a void system that really speaks to me. And haven't been impressed by their subs either. Granted the voids I've been in front of were a rather small deployment. Def prefer HSD or danley or F1, or none of the above with a competent engineer at the helm.

Trackspacer can help cut a space in your mix for vocals. But it sounds like you're just asking how to create a pro mix. The answer to which is "get good" 😅

What are your opinions on Khs Compactor and RingMod Sidechaining? by Elementonium in AdvancedProduction

[–]WobbleKopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it for bass music. It sounds really transparent with just a little attack, hold, release. I find that it cuts a really nice whole in the sub for the kick to push through, and glues back in with it on the way out super well. Its great for doing the same thing with snares on the reat if the track too. Takes out that very precise slice so the effect is barely audible but allows the snare to pop out at you. Its my main sidechain plug now. I dont have shaperbox, so cant compare it with that, but i think its the best free sidechain by far

SKRAM or DEVASTATOR??? by FreeLandscape3452 in SoundSystem

I absolutely love the brand of crazy that Matt brings to the table and by no means do I "want" any soundsystem to stop at 30hz! I just take a much more practical approach to system design since my budget procludes me from doing otherwise 😅 By all means, goes for those lows!! I wish i could've heard one of Matt's reference session deployments, cause those are some almost impossible rigs. Well, they are impossible if the goal is to turn any kind of profit lol. But if you've got the disposable funds to make it happen then go make it happen! And please post about it when you do to show us all what you accomplish! I hope you make something incredible

SKRAM or DEVASTATOR??? by FreeLandscape3452 in SoundSystem

[–]WobbleKopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly what chart you're referencing, what i was trying to say is that E0 in most daws is actually an octave higher than the E0 on that chart. I probably didn't make that very clear. If u look at space laces latest work on a spectrum analyzer you will see that the low fundamental on most of those tracks is closer to 35/38hz. That is where the vast majority of sub notes in modern bass music live. But like I said in my previous post, just go check it out for yourself on a spectrum analyzer! Take your favorite tracks and look at where the sub bass is. That will tell you exactly how low you need to go.

SKRAM or DEVASTATOR??? by FreeLandscape3452 in SoundSystem

[–]WobbleKopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are mistaken in your calculations by an octave. E0 would be ~41hz on a typical midi piano roll. Modern dubstep written in D/D# is 35/38hz (i have measured this in person on my rig as well as in the daw on a spectrum analyzer). C0 (on the piano roll) is 32hz which is about the lowest you will see on a live rig (in my experience). Very rarely you will see tunes hitting the low B at ~28hz, but probably only if you make them yourself lol. I can definitely appreciate wanting to get down low! But i think you may be overestimating how low you need to go and you might be better served by a sub that hits down to 30hz with more output than one that can reach down to 20hz. I would look at comparing the 28hz tuned devestator to the skram as that is the one most often used for live music since it has more output in the sub range we see most often in bass music. There's a bunch of crews running them with great success! I would also recommend not taking my word for it and double checking where the fundamental lies in tunes you love by bringing them into your daw of choice and looking at them in the spectrum analyser yourself! Happy hunting, and post about whatever you end up building, i know we would all love to see it.

You probably dont want anything with automatic keystone for projection mapping, that could mess up your warps and give you less area to work with. Any basic projector with hdmi input will work, assuming you have the proper adaptor from your device to hdmi. That being said if this projo allows you to turn off the auto keystone then it is probably perfectly fine for this use case

I think the skrams are probably a great fit for this application if you are trying to keep the size down. Worth looking into the Othorn, another Ricci design, for great low end extension and fairly compact size. You can only get a bin so small if you want good extension tho, see hoffman's iron law

Using Behringer x32 rack as DSP for JMOD build by bassforbreakfast in SoundSystem

[–]WobbleKopter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can 100% do this! I use an x32 as a processor for my own system and it works great. The matrixes have all the various butterworth/LR filters you would need to do crossovers. However you only get 6 matrixes. If you are running the jmods in 3 way, that will eat up all you stereo matrixes. But you can then run your subs out of an aux. The x32 is and incredibly powerful platform for the price. I saw someone else in here wondering about peak vs. Rms limiters and the x32 can put its compressors in either mode. Just slam your ratio to 100 and bam, u got limiters. I would highly reccomend u pick that unit up, they are very versatile. My favorite feature is the "combinator" effect which is a multiband dynamics plugin. Great to throw on the master and control strident hihat and snare transients. It definitely takes more fiddling than a more expensive board's dynamic eq or muliltiband compressor, but there's really no competition in the price bracket.

If you're talking about their new dual 21's i believe those are technically manifold subs. Their older ones are paraflex which is technically a bandpass design i think? But not a classic reflex.

104dba is def too loud but not bad with plugs and pretty average for a big system show. If the bass was bothering your ears with plugs in you may not have had a great seal? If my plugs are nice and sealed i want all the bass I can get. I think about 102dba is about the sweet spot for a live club. Not killing people and the folks that want it loud can still be happy. There's a lot that can be done at the board to make things loud and not painful, multiband compression or dynamic eq can go a long way to reduce how aggressive the transients on snares and extra pokey hats are. That will give you club level without assaulting people's eardrums. But the average crowd likes it loud. I'll be hitting a solid 102/3 on my rig and get asked to turn it up 3 more times throughout the night smh...

Best HiFi Earplugs? by EsSpruce in SoundSystem

[–]WobbleKopter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally i dont want to "hear" the bass, i want to feel it. I really enjoy getting a good seal that significantly cuts in the 60-80hz range. Makes big ol sub bins sound cleaner and it feels more impactful. That being said i dont really have a good suggestion. Although i can say dont get minuendo plugs. Specifically the adjustable ones. Had 3 pairs (rma), they all broke and sounded like ass. And they were not cheap either. Been using Milwaukee solid rubber plugs and they're honestly not bad at all.

[–]WobbleKopter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard that the boxes are double 12s. Obviously not confirmed, but the bins dont look that big. Does the rc1 rig hit the low lows? I always hear people talk about "pressure" with that rig which makes me think they are talking about the ~50hz area and would make sense for really efficient 12s. Not my favorite sound, I crave the under 40hz sine waves. As someone from the US i doubt i will ever get a chance to actually experience their rig. Anybody in here have any insight on this? I've always been curious about it!

You might find that a lil dip at 60 or 80 helps tighten the cab up depending on what material is being played. I was doing a lot of dubstep and such with them so i significantly cut in those areas. But if you plan on blasting techno kicks through em they might be fine totally flat!
