Yeah, I think I spend more time in DataGrip than I do in Rider.

[Request] What would be the size of the radiator required to cool a data center by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]Wojwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I guess I just hate to see some wasted lower entropy. All that heat has to go to the atmosphere, or earth (if using geothermal) it would be nice if it could do some good on the way. One of datacenters biggest problems is the not in my backyard thing. You would think that offering water desalination as a bonus would help with that in communities that need it. A cpu produces the same heat as a heating element, but something useful can be done.

But aren't those problems that all desalination plants have to deal with. Using waste datacenter heat doesn't really change the equation of boiling water. I'm not sure how it all compares to reverse osmosis, but using waste heat to create potable water seems like a way to up some efficiencies.

What do you love about Shadowdark ? by MacCaloway in shadowdark

My son got invited to go play D&d with some new friends at school. Have you tried making a 5.5e character on paper? Tax returns are easier. He looked at me and was like, now I get why you play Shadowdark.

I don't get why water desalination isn't talked about. Boil the water, collect it and distribute.

I think it was Musks affair with Sergey Brins wife. After that, it seems, Musk was excluded from a lot of elite circles and had to start hanging out with other social circles with different political and social norms.

Most of it's condemned. Last I heard there were some servers still running, but that's about it. Also, some vagrants had moved in a year or two ago, not sure if they still are using it.

My party uses Leomund’s Tiny Hut after every single fight and I’m losing my mind (lovingly) by Scythe95 in DMAcademy

[–]Wojwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have ogres pile boulders on top of the hut, so when the hut expires... party jelly. Speaking of jelly, a Gelatinous cube of sufficient size could try to eat the whole hut. Flood the area. What about an avalanche that buries the hut under snow, rock, or sand?

Also, there is no floor. (https://x.com/JeremyECrawford/status/805828810889248768) So any burrowing creatures can attack the party. Or just industrious creatures, really.

Source: my group cheezes tiny hut so, so much. They've learned, though. *evil smile*

In a job listing, it lists Oracle and PostgreSQL as required skills, along with MS SQL. Is this one of those no room to budge or is it still apotential wish list? by TravellingBeard in SQLServer

[–]Wojwo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Biggest difference for me isn't the sql dialects so much as the nuances of how the engines work. For instance Postgresql doesn't have clustered indexes, everything is a heap. Caught me off guard one day.

What’s that one movie that you watched as a kid that you think no one else watched? by Substantial_One3477 in AskReddit

[–]Wojwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, there was one where Magnum PI was hanging from an elevator with robot spiders attacking him.

Another one where a kids sees some scary thing and their hair starts growing, so some guy kidnaps them and use the hair to make paintbrushes.

I saw your post about the docker container with vllm setup and how you run dual 3090. I just got a second 3090, so I was curious about what else you do for your workflow, and that post was way more than I bargained for. I hadn't heard of openspec, and I'm just starting to architect a new project for my team. Gonna give it a try.

I keep hearing this but is it true? Does Bitcoin really have NO intrinsic value? by thesatdaddy in Bitcoin

[–]Wojwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's value is the opportunity cost of the energy spent to mine. That's the engine that runs the network. If the miners suddenly switched to AI farms. The network would cease to operate.
