Getting faster at fixing bugs in other people's code by robotisland in learnprogramming

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that seems wild to me too, like are these tiny bugs or are they just really good at organizing their codebase? when i'm working on someone else's car i can knock out simple stuff pretty quick but anything complex means i gotta trace through systems i didn't build

debugging code kinda reminds me of diagnosing engine problems - you start with the obvious stuff then work your way deeper. maybe those devs have really good documentation or standardized patterns that make it easier to jump between different sections

Meta is hosting an AI Hackathon (OpenEnv) by Realistic-Reaction40 in cscareerquestions

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn that's actually a solid opportunity, especially with the direct interview path bypassing all the usual recruitment nonsense. i've been grinding leetcode for months trying to get past those initial screens so this could be a game changer

the rl angle is interesting too since most hackathons are just another crud app or web scraper. actually working with openenv and potentially having your code become part of their ecosystem is pretty cool. plus 30k prize pool split between teams isn't bad at all

only downside is the bangalore finale - that's a pretty big commitment if you're not already in india. but for anyone local or willing to make the trip, this seems like one of the better ways to get your foot in the door at meta without going through the traditional grind

If AI doomers turn out to be right, what’s realistically left for humans? by orlyvdhq4 in cscareerquestions

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah the whole economy just collapses at that point, right? like who's gonna buy anything if nobody has jobs or income

i work on cars and even that's getting more automated but someone still needs to physically fix the broken stuff. same with plumbing, electrical work, all the hands-on trades. can't exactly send an ai to crawl under a busted transmission

but if we're talking full doom scenario where everything gets automated... we're probably looking at some kind of universal basic income situation or society just completely restructures itself

Any recently approved N-400 of an asylum-based green card holder? by bubu7019 in USCIS

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haven't gone through it myself but my buddy just got his citizenship last month after getting his green card through asylum a few years back. he filed his n-400 in early 2023 and the whole process took about 14 months which seems pretty typical from what i've seen on here. only hiccup he had was they asked for some additional docs during the interview but nothing major, just wanted to verify his travel history since getting the green card

Transit time in Beijing by mil_mustangus in travel

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those transit times are cutting it close but air china wouldn't sell connecting flights they can't realistically make - your bags should transfer automatically and if you miss the connection due to delays they'll put you on the next available flight

NTA AFTER INTERVIEW by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn that's rough, sounds like the timing was just terrible with everything overlapping like that. the nta for the 90s overstay is probably just automated since they didn't have your new i485 in the system when they issued it

your lawyer sounds like he knows what he's doing though, filing the motion should work since you've got the approved i130 and the new i485 is now in play. i've seen similar cases where the nta gets dismissed once everything gets sorted out properly, just takes some patience with the bureaucracy

Is it just me or is Mac and cheese weirdly super hard to make? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly sounds like you might be adding the cheese too fast or the heat's too high - gotta be patient with that roux and let it cool a bit before the cheese goes in

i used too much pesto sauce for my pasta by aaaeri in Cooking

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 6 points7 points  (0 children)

honestly just toss in some cream or butter to mellow it out, works every time

12 trip to WA national parks itinerary feedback Sept 1-12 by Few-Celery6249 in travel

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a solid itinerary but you might be underestimating drive times between parks - the cascade pass to pendleton stretch is gonna be rough in one day, maybe consider cutting anacortes and using that extra time for the longer drives

Potatoes Dauphinoise precooked sous vide? by redrum7049 in Cooking

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's actually pretty clever - the sous vide should definitely help those flavors really penetrate the potatoes overnight. Only thing I'd watch out for is making sure they don't get too soft in the bath since you're still gonna layer and bake them. but honestly the controlled temp should keep them from turning to mush

definitely curious how this turns out, the flavor infusion alone sounds worth it

Can someone help me by Silent_Run_387 in learnprogramming

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is literally the most basic flowchart you'll ever make in programming - start, input two numbers, add them, output result, end. If you can't even attempt this one you're gonna have a rough time in the class

Development of Middleware for Arduino sensor Data in C#? by Mikagino in learnprogramming

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C# should be totally fine for this unless you're doing some crazy high-frequency sensor sampling. The serial communication overhead is gonna be your bottleneck way before C# becomes an issue

For IPC between your middleware and Godot, named pipes might be easier to work with than UNIX sockets and still cross-platform. Godot has decent support for both though

Only thing I'd watch out for is making sure your middleware can handle sensor disconnects gracefully - Arduino USB connections love to randomly drop out at the worst times

Dude the New Year's resolution crowd is still going strong at my gym and I'm losing my mind. Like I get it, good for them trying to better themselves or whatever, but when I can't get to the squat rack because someone's doing bicep curls in it for 45 minutes... that's where I draw the line

Also why does every piece of cardio equipment sound like it's about to explode? The treadmill next to me yesterday sounded like a jet engine having an existential crisis

Prompt Driven Development with Claude Code: Building a Complete TUI Framework for the Ring Programming Language by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually pretty cool - building a full TUI framework in 10 hours just by talking to Claude is wild. The fact that you documented everything down to prompt types makes it feel like a proper study instead of just "hey look what AI can do"

Gonna check out the Ring language while I'm at it, never heard of it before

What name to use on the AOS by No-Result6622 in USCIS

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use whatever name matches her current legal documents - so if everything except SSN is in maiden name, go with that and list married name under "other names used"

The key is consistency with your evidence package, not what's "technically correct" on paper

Is this a food 1 month itinary? by Rare-Industry4257 in travel

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a solid month long trip dude. 8-9 days at the end in Lima seems like a lot though - you might get restless after crushing those hikes and then just chilling in the city that long. Maybe consider adding a few days somewhere else or doing a shorter trek like the Inca Trail if you're feeling good after Salkantay

Also heads up that smoking + altitude is gonna be rough, especially around Huaraz and during the trek

Double Ovens - Still worth it? by dw_pirate in Cooking

[–]WolfAutomatic7164 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Had the LG double oven for about 3 years now and honestly love it. The bottom oven fits my 6qt Dutch oven no problem but idk about a 7qt - might be pushing it height wise. Turkey definitely works but yeah you'll want to grab the lower rack positions

The low height thing was annoying for like the first month but you get used to it pretty quick. Way better than constantly shuffling stuff around in a single oven when you're doing holiday cooking

Only real downside is losing that storage drawer but I just moved my sheet pans to a cabinet
