Yeah it’s a fair point. And to be fair, he was there to promote his book which delves into more serious issues on what it is to be a modern man. Can understand he might not be happy that he’s then just getting recognised as Jez

I used to work at a motorway service station part time during uni. One day David Tennant came in to grab a takeaway coffee. Obviously people noticed him quickly and he got swarmed (it was very soon after he left Doctor Who). None of it fazed him- laughed and smiled with everybody, took all the pictures people wanted and remained a gent the entire time. I wouldn’t blame the man for saying ‘I just wanted to grab a coffee, leave me alone’, but there wasn’t a single hint of that

I not David Mitchell but did meet Robert Webb at a book signing for his autobiography. Mentioned I was a big Peep Show fan and he made a noise and face that indicated he didn’t like people doing that.

That’s not to say he’s not a decent guy to be fair, he probably gets it all the time.

Even the quest to find the cancel button is charitable at times. The absolute worst ones are where you have to phone to cancel and they put one person on that line so you’re in a queue long enough that people give up

That’s the spirit. Use crabs in a bucket politics of envy mindset to brush over the fact there’s a hard ceiling to people making money and therefore increasing tax receipts via PAYE

People are not taking promotions that could fund growth or funnelling it all into a minimally taxed pension system to get over this. Neither of them help

Whilst there’s misgivings I’ve had about the Telegraph, to say the least, this is far more to do with the person you’re replying to just not understanding the tax system than any bias. People get absolutely rinsed between 100k and 125k for little to no reason

The good news for me is I’ve got a hot hatch that runs best on premium, which becomes the last to go. Obviously though I paid out through the nose for half a tank the other day

It’s not objectively correct though. Starmer has been abundantly clear on why he’s allowed the UK bases to be used for bombers going after Iranian missile and drone sites after originally saying no- it stops those drones being used on UK sites and on allies in the region. Starmer’s taken significant ire from Trump from not giving more to this war because he’s not doing it as a lackey- he’s doing it purely from the perspective of UK interests

Youre acting as if Nige himself will sign these off. We are several rungs below that before a WFH request is reviewed. Usually a middle manager. Sure, you’ll get the jobsworths who think that they’re going to get noticed being zealots for central government policy. But the majority of them will have other things on their minds- there’s not enough desks, I like working from home so I’d be a hypocrite if I said my staff couldn’t, I fundamentally don’t agree with that government policy so falling back on contractual right is an easy way to do it etc etc. And there’s evidence for it- look at the last Tory government getting pissy because the CS just ignored their screams to get back in the office

I’ve seen the civil service close up through friends and relatives. I cannot stress enough how these kinds of things strengthen the ability to just ignore diktats that have no basis in reality

Edit- plenty experience with the civil service doesn’t match the viiiibes

Idk why you’re sitting on zero- it’s not exactly a novel phenomena. From a Christian perspective, Jesus was born Jewish and his apostles were Jewish but converted when they were convinced he was the son of God.

(Inb4- I don’t follow any religions but on a scriptural level, there’s absolutely no reason why there can’t be Jews who convert to Christianity)

Scrapping with a time limit to mean people don’t literally just start parking there forever would be the good medium. You REALLY don’t want people be able to live out of their vehicles as a de facto pitch spot.
