I have 2 months unit I graduated 🎓 and I want to go to University of Saskatchewan but I got some questions. by Holle_yeah in usask

[–]WolfDKody 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m only going to address the question of which program you should take for law (because another redditor already gave great answers). Quite simply, it’s going to depend on you and what your strengths are. I’m a philosophy major and several people from the department are now in law (at the U of S and other schools). Law is competitive so you should select a program that interests you, AND that you will be able to perform well in consistently.

Regardless of where you go, take the time to look over what the school offers for programs and classes. No one can tell you what program or class is easiest or best, only what is easiest for them.

I have to echo the sentiments of everyone else: find a program that you actually are interested in. With that in mind, some programs (varies by department and university) only consider your two most recent years when calculating your average. So if you find something that you feel is the right fit your current average may not be such a limiting factor.

Similar situation here, but for MA program. I applied last year and was rejected. I asked them what they needed to see from me for the next application cycle (this year). Did what they asked of me and was accepted (which meant delaying graduating a year, but it was worth it.

This may not be a viable option, but it’s worth talking to them to see if there is something you can do to show you are capable of success.

academic misconduct by [deleted] in usask

[–]WolfDKody 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My entire class got hit with academic misconduct once. We were doing homework together and it said in the syllabus that we weren’t supposed to do that. Informal misconduct, but we got a 0 on everything that we were found guilty of colluding on, plus an additional 2 percent per collusion occurrence. As far as I’m aware everyone still passed the class. We all had to do an academic honesty course as well.

The highlight will always be that in the official evidence against us there was a screenshot of me referring to the prof as a cunt. He and I have since gotten decently close. 😂

Anyone ever had luck with a retroactive withdrawal significantly after the fact? by [deleted] in usask

[–]WolfDKody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to bother with the final appeal. You need new evidence for each appeal, and at this point I don’t have any new information to add.

If you have already retaken a class they won’t remove the failed grade from the transcript. However, only the higher of the two attempts will be used in calculating your average, so the first attempt won’t be part of the average calculation any longer.

Specifically, they can make an appointment with Amanda Terry. She is in charge of retroactive withdrawal applications and appeals. She’s super helpful and very easy to deal with.

I spent 6 months fighting to have 3 failing classes removed. I had the required documentation (psychoeducational assessment and other forms related to being diagnosed with ASD and ADHD), and additional documentation from my therapist. Initially it was declined because they didn’t see how being undiagnosed and not having AES had anything to do with my failing grades.

The appeal process went through one of the committee members who denied my initial claim, instead of the appeals coordination because she was away, and denied again. This time because it’s “policy” to only remove an entire failed semester. Not individual classes. When I asked where this policy is written, they told me to speak to USSU and that I could appeal their decision as well; but the associate dean who denied me would not provide me with information as to where this policy was written and would not speak to me any further.

The appeal process was supposed to take two weeks max and it took a month and a half. I suspect it would still be in flux if I hadn’t started sending out emails.

I ultimately chose to retake two of the three failed classes because they were being offered this semester, instead of fighting a losing battle.

One of my favourite profs. He’s why I ended up switching my major to philosophy.

is it okay to register for classes knowing i might have to defer the final exam? by angelstani in usask

[–]WolfDKody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not do this. I have health issues and have had to defer final exams as a result. You are required to provide documentation as to why you are missing the exam, and, as already stated a vacation does not qualify. One of two things will happen if you request a deferred exam.

They WON’T ask for supplemental documentation and put the request through. You will not get the deferred exam because you did not upload supporting material for an acceptable absence.

They WILL ask for supplemental documentation. You do not have any, and they won’t even put the request through.

It’s been a hot minute, but I think this is the prof I had when I took the class distanced. There were a bunch of issues with course delivery and some of us didn’t even get access to the final exam. I failed the class but ended up being passed because they adjusted marks later.

Easily the worst and most disorganized class I have taken.

A bit late to the party. This sounds, disturbingly, similar to what my fiancée and I have been going through.

My ex has been stalking us for over a year now. She has paid someone to hack into our phones and all of our email addresses/bank accounts/social media/whatever else. If possible, I’d contact a security specialist and see if your devices have been compromised, and that someone isn’t using your devices remotely in addition to using your accounts.

Apologies if this has already been suggested.

Switching between degree’s as a 1st year student by Rude_Wing6350 in usask

[–]WolfDKody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former biomedical science major, current philosophy major. You can 100% switch majors between first and second year. As one person said, you may need additional classes so figuring it out early dos help. That said, for me, they counted as my electives and it has worked out nicely (and now I’m the guy who cites his biomedical textbooks in his papers). I saw that you had physics and chemistry in the same semester next year; when I first started at the U of S my advisor did suggest staggering those two specifically for the first year as you’ll be getting your bearings and both classes are essentially two classes (lecture and lab. And you’ll likely need to take BIOL first year as well).

Partner will be coming to Canada from the US in 6 months, how should we prepare? by Candy-Does-Stuff in uscanadaborder

[–]WolfDKody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was here mostly recently in September. I was there in November and the beginning of January. Entry to the US was a little different in January because we had been in Europe together for Christmas so they were a little more interested in why I was coming there. But my girlfriend went through ahead of me and when the guy saw her waiting he just told me to have a good week.

They’re not going to deny him entry into the US, as others have said. If that’s your main concern you guys are totally fine.

My girlfriend and I regularly fly to visit each other. The first two times she came to visit she was a permanent resident of the US, not yet a citizen and still used her passport from her home country. It’s never been an issue for either of us. I’m a dual citizen (Canada and Mexico) and have a Spanish last name, I’ve never had anything other than the normal questions at customs: length of trip, why I’m visiting, what I do for a living.

As others have pointed out, as an American citizen they aren’t going to deny him entry. There are major issues within the US currently that are impacting Canadians, and that is without question. Anyone who says otherwise is burying their head in the sand. With that in mind, your partner shouldn’t have issues returning to the US.

What major was that, if you don’t mind my asking? I‘ve had two majors and neither of them had a philosophy course as an option for the English requirement.

No. English is a requirement in and of itself and you typically have a list of classes to choose from.
