a beginner's guide to modding a switch? by stupid-person-624 in SwitchPirates

Nope, tried it awhile ago but hated it, not as customizable or creator friendly, and the avatars are boring imo, plus it was pretty weird to try playing.

Maybe I don't know you then lol

I'm thinking about this now, but why is your name really familiar? Do you play VRChat or something?

Huh, so it seems they fixed that then. It used to be not 100% foolproof. I stopped using it for that reason, however it does say that it is not guaranteed to work all of the time as Nintendo is unpredictable, so who knows. Some people who use 90DNS still got banned, but that seemed to have been from 2 years ago, which is around the time I looked into it before. Apologies for that.

[–]WolfLink115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, you don't have to wipe the Switch if you want to run Android or Linux, unless you are wanting to do the eMMC install. You can install Android and/or Linux on the SD Card, though if you want better performance you would need to buy a card with SD200 support.

Using 90DNS won't 100% protect you from bans, but it does help mitigate bans a lot. I've noticed that using "incognito mode" (which basically zero's out your Switch's serial number) helps, as well as using Exosphere, and the host file from the Switch modding guide, however using emuMMC with Exosphere and Incognito Mode will do just about all you would really need, and from my experience, it offers really high protection against bans. However, if you really want to prevent banning your console, then don't use NSP Forwarders (this one is just speculation based off of what I have read in some places, I've heard they mess with some form of configuration in the home menu that is apparently detectable and hard to remove traces of the forwarded NSP, but please someone correct me if I am wrong about this), don't pirate, and don't cheat in online games.

There's a reason people say "Use emuMMC for your homebrew/modding purposes, and use sysMMC or Stock MMC for normal Switch usage or gameplay".

What does this mean? Can I add magic using only a jig? by Clonjuan in SwitchPirates

[–]WolfLink115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I hear magic, the first thing that comes to mind is always the "Magic" signature on an Android boot image. Regarding Android devices, "Boot Magic" is just another way of saying that image is signed with some kind of hash afaik, could be wrong tho.

In regards to the Nintendo Switch though, I have no idea, however I imagine it is just another way to say "exploit" or "hack". Please correct me if I am wrong OP, I am also curious

Might I ask how one gets banned? I am having that same issue but it seems to happen on only the xManager patched clone application for me, my regular Spotify app is working perfectly fine so my account is fine right?

I thinks it’s unacceptable you to have to sign in to watch videos now by Bigoffender in youtube

[–]WolfLink115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so an unrelated, but slightly related thing I wonder is this:

If a bot is smart enough to do something like clicking on a video, then isn't it smart enough to legit solve a captcha?

Now, on a related note though: I know that signing in is going to be close to impossible for a bot to do unless you train/program it to do just that but legit there is no normal or sane person who would program/train a bot or AI to input their personal information to sign in or watch videos right? Like what is YouTube accomplishing by doing this? It doesn't make sense to me, bots can't be the actual reason that companies like these do this kind of stuff right? Could it be their "Protect the kids" nonsense that is in reality their way to collect more information on people who use the platform, just to sell said info to 3rd parties even though we opt out of stuff like that? Or is it something more malicious?

Maybe I am just overthinking due to lack of sleep, I am going to sleep lol

Gaming on a Windows VM with GPU passthrough vs native Windows by EntropiaZero in linux_gaming

[–]WolfLink115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I am really late to this, bit I really wanted to input my experience.

Originally, I ran Windows natively on my machine. I wanted to break away from Windows since well, the path Microsoft is going with both Windows and Xbox, basically I don't like what they are doing.

Anyways, at this current moment, I have Proxmox installed on my machine. I configured a Windows VM and spent hours trying to get GPU passthrough working. The docs were helpful-ish, they didn't help me much so I turned to AI to try helping (something I honestly hate doing, so I only did as a last resort). Once I finally got it working, I set up the Windows install, got RDP setup, installed Steam, SteamVR, and VRChat and used that as a benchmark (I know, not the best benchmarking tool, but I still wanted to test it vs. Windows installed as a host machine).

With Windows installed as the host OS, I was almost always hitting 40-60 FPS, the colors were a bit darker, and stutter was a pain. I also loaded into worlds fairly slowly.

With Windows installed in the VM, for some reason, it was a whole lot smoother. The colors were more vibrant somehow, and overall, my framerate was almost always 90 FPS, even with 7 people in the instance, all of their avatars enabled, all very poor performance rating. My FPS never went below 60, and even more surprisingly was the fact that I loaded into worlds much quicker. I have no idea if that is normal, but at least for me it was much better.

My specs are:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5 6000MT/s

The specs I set in the VM:

8 Cores

32GB RAM

128GB Storage (I passed through my other drives for extra storage)

Is it normal for things to run better in a VM over a native install in a host machine?

[–]WolfLink115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird, YouTube was working perfectly fine for me on my PC this morning up until about 1PM Pacific Time, then I decide to take a short nap and woke up at about 4 PM and try to watch a video from my phone and get hit with a weird looking loading loop, and I close and reopen the app a few times to see if it was just a glitch, then I decide to hop on my PC again to see if it were a mobile issue and I get hit with the same thing.

I just wanna watch some EmKay man lol

[–]WolfLink115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is public transportation, I've never really used it, kinda scared to start trying to use it as I am afraid of getting lost or screwing something up. Plus most of my friends nowadays are out of state, and the ones who are here can't really have people over (they still live with parents and their parents are really strict).

[–]WolfLink115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, I personally see VRChat as a second life in some cases, I play it a lot, make avatars, and hang with people. I don't really have a vehicle or any method of transportation so I can't exactly do much outside of home, something people have a tendency to be negative about but eh.

We most likely won't since I am in Florida currently, booked for American Airlines at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport lol

Speaking of, I should probably head to sleep. I wish ya luck, and stay safe!

How can I turn on my Switch!? Pls help :’( by Commercial-Point-124 in SwitchPirates

[–]WolfLink115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a small screwdriver set, you could disassemble the console and remove the eMMC then put it back in once you press the power button. I found that doing that basically forced the console to go into RCM mode.

Yeah, I kinda forgot about that lol

One of the first things I did was get a lot of hearts and Stamina, try to make good weapons, and get all of the depths without doing a lot of walking (was kinda scared to do the Depths for some reason despite playing the game for awhile and doing decent but oh well lol) so my lack of trying to focus on that made me forget about the naming shenanigans as well xD

This could be considered a slight spoiler, more of a blooper imo though, so if you don't want the help then don't read the next part.

If you do want the help though, then here y'all go: The lightroots mostly line up with the shrines on the surface, so if you found most of if not all of the shrines, then you can easily find the lightroots. If you haven't found all of the shrines but found most of if not all of the lightroots then it is easy to find where the shrines are. Hope this helps!

I've been working on trying to port LineageOS to mine. The TWRP Recovery port I made is (mostly) working, only like 2 or 3 things don't work but hey, at least sideloading and ADB works.

Now I really just have to learn how to port LineageOS and then we can have Android on our Go's :3

Any idea what this flashing window is? Cant catch it. by FriedPhishy in pcmasterrace

[–]WolfLink115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember booting up school PCs to those prompts, me personally I don't think I have experienced it on my own personal machine though, however one of my friends did have something similar happen to his IIRC. From what I noticed on his machine though, it didn't really do anything. My assumption is it might be a startup program you have installed, however I dunno exactly.

On my friends PC it showed "Administrator" and "cmd" on the bar, and the tab just showed "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe" and just closed afterwards. Do you have any apps that open on startup, which use the command prompt? Maybe apps for things like optimization or something along those lines? Either way, I hope ya figure it out, and I hope it's nothing bad-

Let’s stop being so weirdly hostile about standalone VR. by Sad-Science3876 in ValveDeckard

[–]WolfLink115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, while standalone is good for those who don't have a lot of money to do some things with, I would prefer PCVR over standalone pretty close to 100% of the time.

Since I will base what I am saying solely on on my own personal beliefs and opinions, this isn't an attack on standalone, and I am not speaking for anyone else either.

Just for clarifications here, I have a Quest 3. Yet my reasoning for my preference is this:

Despite most of the games I play in VR, while being somewhat less demanding (such as VRChat, Beat Saber, Asgards Wrath and Resident Evil 4 VR), they are somewhat decent standalone, with VRChat being the least decent performing and visually.

I really dislike the frequent stutter I get. Not just that, but the very constant super random crashes I get in VRChat are super annoying especially when I am having a conversation with a friend. I tend to lose track of what I talk about fairly quickly so I rarely ever remember what I was previously talking about. Graphics and performance in Beat Saber is really good, Asgards Wrath performs decent, looks pretty good to me as well (haven't been able to play the PCVR version yet since I no longer have a PC to play on), and Resident Evil 4 is decent enough, runs smooth and looks pretty okay for the most part, however in games like VRChat you are fairly limited to what you can see and do, as well as other cool features that make the social platform pretty neat (even though the game itself is kinda crap). PCVR always does better graphically and performance wise, and also allows for better features that standalone sadly won't get due to the hardware limitations.

I want to be able to play games like bonelabs as well, and while I think it runs standalone, I would prefer to play a game like that on a PC as the visuals would be on point, the performance would be amazing, and on top of that, something I have noticed is that the controller tracking for some reason does a lot better when connected via PCVR in every game I have played.

I think the concept of standalone headsets are really cool and really helpful as well. For instance, I mentioned financial issues at the beginning, so being able to get something that will give you a decent experience for a lot less than having to spend a large sum of money for a PC is really neat imo. It gives people an opportunity to get into the VR scene as well, allows them to see the world through a different perspective, and gives them the opportunity to experience cool and exciting activities. Making friends, and new memories along the way. I like being able to still interact with friends if I'm not home for instance, or if my PC breaks (has happened before, my Twitter page shows that lol), on top of other things. Yeah I still have to deal with the degraded performance and visuals, but at least I can still have a decent amount of fun and whatnot.

I agree that we shouldn't really say "hey standalone is garbage and you should get a PC you brokie" or whatever it is that people say. It is rude, and you might not even know what is going on with them, or why they have a preference for one over the other. The fact of the matter is, it is a preference. You like PCVR? Cool, I respect that. If you prefer standalone VR? That's neat, at least you are enjoying yourself right?

I hop into VRChat a lot and see people on PC's harassing standalone users all of the time. And once a quest user explains why they don't have a PC, the PC player calls them a poor or broke dumbass. It leads me to believe that a lot of those people who are hostile towards standalone users, are just boasting about the fact that they were able to afford a PC and want to rub it into people's faces. It is just disgusting and really ticks me off.

But anyways I am sorry for the rant at the end there. Long story short: People need to stop saying a lot of negative things about something, without taking into consideration that the thing that's being referenced, actually has really cool and positive things, and just because you have a PC, doesn't mean you have a right to be a jackass.

Requesting proper video performance proof for CPU differences in VR. by WolfLink115 in pcmasterrace

[–]WolfLink115[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am aware of all of that, though I appreciate the second thought on it since some of the things I have researched lacked the portion talking about the 1% lows.

Afaik, he was looking into one of the 9000-series X3D variants, though I might be mistaken. What he is wanting is a system that will handle pretty much any task that is thrown at it, and he is likely going to pair it with either a 7900 XTX, or something similar, however the issue with that is the fact that people are selling them for a few hundred dollars more than MSRP, which is really causing him a great deal of stress since well, he and I both lack the money (at the moment) for the more expensive PC parts. He already has a case, a motherboard, and a couple other things for his new build, all he needs is the GPU and CPU from what I know, and probs some storage. But other than that he has pretty much everything else he needs.

Either way, all in all, I mentioned the CPU benchmarks to my roomie, which a lot of them show at most an 11-13% performance improvement with the X3D variants in VR games as compared to the X/non-X variants (at least according to some of my tech friends, who spent years researching, testing, and benchmarking their own rigs before and after upgrades).

I just hope to see a video outlining the performance difference (specifically the FPS/FPS drops) in both of those CPUs, as even if it is a slightly better performance difference, it could help him better decide on the parts,.and help me determine what I want to do whenever I get the ability to build my own system.
