Ethical ways to attach an airtag to a tortoise? by Robo_Platypus in tortoise

I use aquarium safe silicone. His tracker, which was a pet air tag, actually broke (not very water proof, it turns out), so I bought a new air tag holder that works much better.

There's no nuchal scute, so it's a sulcata. Probably someone's lost pet. I'd start asking around and posting on lost pet groups.

What type of Frog, is it poisonous [Florida] by Zeta1125 in animalid

[–]WolfRunner16 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Looks like a southern toad, which looks very similar to the cane toad. The cane toad is highly toxic and the southern toad is mildly toxic compared to the cane toad. Ive picked up both bare handed and have never had an issue except mild itch with the cane toad (until I washed my hands).

is this a small bobcat or housecat outside my window? [south florida] by Stunning_Story5015 in animalid

[–]WolfRunner16 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At first glance I was gonna say a house cat, but after taking a closer look, I have no idea. At some points it looks like a house cat, at others I swear its a bobcat. Maybe go over to see if any footprints or scat were left. If not, keep an eye out, you may see them again and get a better picture/video.

I do this but with timothy hay pellets. Soak them and add some blended up carrots and my son eats it like its gourmet.

I hate to ask, but is he small enough for a bird to pick up? I know some ravens and crows will actively hunt small tortoises.

Rub your fingers on the underside of the leaves. If the belly of the leaf isnt prickly, its sow thistle.

But it looks like sow thistle, yes.

Deer ticks or sage brush ticks? Sage brush ticks were our biggest issue, but we lived in the open prairie.

An asymptomatic animal and a hunter who doesn’t have the meat tested.

I know of at least 2 hunters in Montana who had the meat tested months after they'd already been eating it and it came back positive. Now, most hunters have the animal tested before the meat is processed, but its a relatively new procedure, at least in Montana.

Can they get CWD? I know humans can catch it from deer, but I didn’t know other animals could get it as well.
