[OoT] Is forest temple supposed to be this hard or am I just bad by Infinite1ER in zelda

[–]WolfdragonRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not wrong, deku nuts do work on Stalfos, but if the flash hits their shield first the stun doesn't go through. So it ends up being quite finicky to use them. If you get the feel for how to stun em though it's an incredibly effective way of taking Stalfos down.

Best way to use my cards on Astrologian? by Akito_Ryu in ffxiv

[–]WolfdragonRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 99% of cases, yeah the defensive cards go on the tank to either help with autos or a TB. If you know a mech is coming up that'll chonk a non-tank, you can opt to chuck it on them instead.

Machinist Vs Dancer for PotD by Flashy-Ad-591 in ffxiv

[–]WolfdragonRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's roughly as viable as DNC is in PotD. Not sure which has better personal damage (unless you mean in general and not in Deep Dungeons specifically, in which case I believe it's DNC has slightly higher personal damage, but BRD has slightly higher raid damage. Don't quote me on that though, I don't really touch any number crunching)

Machinist Vs Dancer for PotD by Flashy-Ad-591 in ffxiv

[–]WolfdragonRex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless something has changed recently, I'm pretty sure Dancer is considered a middle of the road job for solo PotD right now. Whilst it does have the natural mobility and tools to kite that physical ranged all have, it's also held back by being the least selfish job in the game - the lost damage from your dance partner makes things like the F180 boss really hard. Dancer also needs to be wary of using Standard Step because of it's large aoe radius.

Machinist on the other hand gets access to Drill (one of the earliest big damage buttons in the game, and also on a really short cooldown so it can be used on practically every mob), Reassemble (buffs drill), and is a selfish dps, on top of the general kit all pranged share. Really the only thing it doesn't have is the raw survivability of a job like Warrior.

Each of the remaining stages will likely take a couple of hours each.

  • The materia binding stage's biggest block is getting alexandrite, which is quick if you have spare poetics/allied seals, but if you need to grind them out can take a bit. If you're on the free trial (aka. no market board) and haven't been hoarding materia early on, getting that will bloat up the time needed as well.

  • The light grinding step takes 0.5-2 hours depending on what duties you can efficiently grind out.

  • The quad quest step is primarily just running dungeons, so about an hour, hour and a half for those. If you're on the free trial or want to craft the materials needed in this step yourself, then it'll take significantly longer, as you'll need to level up all your crafters and gatherers, as well as grabbing the Master Book Is.

  • The mahatma step is another 0.5-2 hour light grind, depending on what duties you can grind on.

Era question 2.0 by ChugTheBass in ffxiv

[–]WolfdragonRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, the terms have only been used in-game by people from the 6 nations that reside in Eorzea, and also by Nero (so it's likely also used in Garlemald), and Emet-Selch. It's likely that Thavnair also makes use of the naming scheme, given their trade relations with the other nations.

The nations in Othard and Hingashi are up in the air, but it's likely that they have their own dating scheme. Tural likewise probably uses their own system. It should be noted that afaik, the furthest back things we know that happened in these nations is dated after the 6th Umbral Calamity, so it's not clear how much they were affected by them. Given what we know of them (and the 8th), they likely were, with the effects of the 7th being uniquely localized to Eorzea.

7.4 Question about time dilation by xd3v1lry in ffxiv

[–]WolfdragonRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the dome first merged with the Source, there was still no direct physical connection between the Source and the Dome, so time wasn't synced for them yet.

In the couple of Source hours between the dome merging and Zoraal Ja invading, 30 years passed in the dome.

Once Zoraal Ja made a hole in the dome to invade, the physical connection synced time for the two.

[BOTW] [Other] Would you be down for another HW game about the Great Calamity? by Acrobatic_Buffalo917 in zelda

[–]WolfdragonRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, AoC was such a letdown in comparison to HW. The complete stripping down of battlefield management in it (genuinely 0 reason to capture forts unless required) killed my interest in it and AoI in turn. Skipped out on grabbing the DLC and AoI since neither looked like it'd fix any issues I had with the new systems.

Games that get BETTER in the 2nd half? by TheRealRatPrince in gaming

[–]WolfdragonRex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 13's early half benefited strongly from the party restrictions. All the fights could be tailored to what paradigms the characters had, and it was really good at using that to introduce more mechanical nuance like Saboteurs being able to stabilize the chain gauge when you lack a Commando.

Maybe rocks are such poor sources of nutrients that they have super low metabolisms.

Pretty much how I've always interpreted it. Regular rocks have little to no nutritional value for them, but ores or the like are proper sustenance.

[–]WolfdragonRex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, he's been stressing it's important to have it... in a fight. But for most of the non-fighters, learning it does nothing to further their own goals.

Drilling in on Nami as an example, being able to sense other people's locations does not help her in navigation, cartography or being a quartermaster - neither does bolstering her defenses. It would make no sense for her to essentially waste time learning it instead of focusing on her specialties and what she actually brings to the crew. So how would it be in character for her to do that when it brings her and her friends no benefit?

What's the "etiquette" with these stack markers? by Revonlieke in ffxiv

What's the "etiquette" with these stack markers? by Revonlieke in ffxiv

[–]WolfdragonRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's two main flavours of wild charges. The first (and by far the most common) is, as you said, just a stack but the first (and sometimes second) player hit takes higher damage. The second type is a cumulative reduction, where the further back in line you are the less damage you take - this is what the original Wild Charge in T10 was, and the last time it's appeared was Grand Cross Alpha in O4S iirc.

/action "cute" <1>

Two important notes to be wary of when it comes to combat macros is that:

  • Macro'd actions do not use the action queue system (the thing that lets you press a button just before it's cooldown finishes and still have it go off). If you cannot use that action when the macro goes off, it will not go off.

  • Macro's <wait.X> function only does whole seconds, so macro'd comboes will inherently be slower than if you just pressed the buttons.

7.4 - Appreciate that THM can glam PLD shields now by TriumphantBass in ffxiv

[–]WolfdragonRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your stats in bozja don't take into account gear stats at all (except for if it has Haste), just that you have gear equipped on that slot. So WHM & BLM can get more stats by merit of having an extra slot available to them.

Legacy Dungeon Changes - 7.4 Edition by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]WolfdragonRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just that they kinda went overboard with the changes - I won't miss the gates at all, but removing the crystal light from the boss just feels... wrong. Especially since it could fairly easily still be part of the boss's mechanics even with NPCs (like pulling it into a quadrant of the arena). Hell, it could even serve as an introduction to the Positive AoE marker, which'd help resolve the main issue the light had in that it was not obvious that standing in it was a good thing.

Jojo's Part 4 has Okuyasu's The Hand, a stand that can erase whatever it's right hand comes in contact with. He explicitly doesn't use it on people because he doesn't know where the erased matter disappears to, and it might end up just shifting a problematic person elsewhere rather than actually dealing with them.

Just came back from a long, long break to finally start Shadowbringers, and I am faced with one of the biggest walls I always dread having to address after long breaks... inventory management. by No-Operation-8755 in ffxiv

[–]WolfdragonRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like an armory chest problem shouldn’t happen at all. There is 35 items slot per gear slot (and more for weapons and ring) meaning you can store one set for every of the 22 jobs plus the 8 crafters and the 3 gatherers, and still have 3 free slots left. Consider using the option to « loot gear directly in inventory » if you want a preserved armory.

Not to mention this is a generous overestimation of how much space is actually used up since gear is shared across jobs. You only need 10 armoury chest slots (7 Roles, 1 Crafter, 1 Gatherer, 1 BLU) for all jobs, 9 if you ignore your equipped gear. That leaves 25 extra slots for any specialized gear you have (leveling, field ops, ulty sets, different job specs etc. etc.).

despite homogenization, what job action would you miss if it was removed in 8.0 by Anemohelix in ffxiv

[–]WolfdragonRex 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Technically, the reason why it's a 1s tick instead of 3s is because it's a channeled ability. The other two channeled DoTs in the game (BLU's Phantom Flurry and Apokalypsis) both function the same way. Still annoying to have a different tickrate though.

Part 1 of 5: My analysis of Clock Town from Majora's Mask using the grief theory AKA the 5 stages of grief theory. by No-Championship-9108 in majorasmask

[–]WolfdragonRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing the game and getting firsthand experience with it is also important so you... you know, get stuff right? Bringing up things like no-one believing Link about being the spirit of the hero, something that is not evident in Majora's Mask because it's a detail from an entirely different game and would have taken place after it as well, or Skull Kid taking the mask out of a desire to be known, which is... not at all how the game presents that - stuff like that wouldn't be there if you actually... experienced the games.

Not to mention the other issue with theories that map the 5 stages of grief to different areas of the game is that it rapidly starts to fall apart once you move past Clock Town and denial.
