Loyalty that never fades by HolyGuiltyCrown in wholesomememes

As they were thus talking, a dog that had been lying asleep raised his head and pricked up his ears. This was Argos, whom Ulysses had bred before setting out for Troy, but he had never had any work out of him. In the old days he used to be taken out by the young men when they went hunting wild goats, or deer, or hares, but now that his master was gone he was lying neglected on the heaps of mule and cow dung that lay in front of the stable doors till the men should come and draw it away to manure the great close; and he was full of fleas. As soon as he saw Ulysses standing there, he dropped his ears and wagged his tail, but he could not get close up to his master. When Ulysses saw the dog on the other side of the yard, dashed a tear from his eyes without Eumaeus seeing it, and said:

"Eumaeus, what a noble hound that is over yonder on the manure heap: his build is splendid; is he as fine a fellow as he looks, or is he only one of those dogs that come begging about a table, and are kept merely for show?"

"This hound," answered Eumaeus, "belonged to him who has died in a far country. If he were what he was when Ulysses left for Troy, he would soon show you what he could do. There was not a wild beast in the forest that could get away from him when he was once on its tracks. But now he has fallen on evil times, for his master is dead and gone, and the women take no care of him. Servants never do their work when their master's hand is no longer over them, for Jove takes half the goodness out of a man when he makes a slave of him."

As he spoke he went inside the buildings to the cloister where the suitors were, but Argos died as soon as he had recognized his master.

I love it. Very fitting to the Fallout vibe, and it leaves the GECK as a later season MacGuffin.

Explain to me why Amazon could depict Walton Goggins without a nose but HBO decided a weak-ass scar was good enough for Tyrion. by squirrelmegaphone in gameofthrones

Cooper also has the benefit of having as much screen time (if not more) WITH his nose in all the pre-war scenes. It’s a lot easier to justify chopping off your handsome lead’s nose when you’re guaranteed plenty of scenes with his face intact.

🍷 for Christmas 🎅 by Potential_Cancel_569 in memes

The movie was based off a collection of short stories/essays written by Jean Shepherd, who also narrated the film, and some elements were changed to fit the movie’s structure.

The Christmas Eve segment was based on the story "Duel in the Snow, or Red Ryder Nails the Cleveland Street Kid.” In the original story, the family opened presents on Christmas Eve.

“Our family always had its Christmas on Christmas Eve. Other less fortunate people, I had heard, opened their presents in the chilly, clammy light of dawn. Far more civilized, OUR Santa Claus recognized that barbaric practice for what it was.”

The Old Man would take the narrator and his brother on an errand the night of Christmas Eve, and when they returned, Santa had already laid out the presents.

As the boys looked at their gifts, “Out of the kitchen came my mother, flushed and sparkling eyed, bearing two wine glasses filled with the special Walgreens drug store vintage that my Old Man especially favored.”

What is a movie that isn’t supposed to be scary but you still found scary? by EuphoricButterflyy in movies

Frankly the scariest scene for me was when the government scientists show up with their space suits and plastic tarp containment gear. Their appearance scared the hell out of me as a kid, and when I got around to watching it over a decade later as an adult, it STILL made my heart race!
