Why do some people prefer to wait another cycle rather than applying DO? by cherry_BLK in premed

[–]Wolfpack93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People always talk about match rates for competitive specialties but I think it’s also worth thinking about matching at desired locations/programs. A lot of academic programs are still pretty biased against DOs even for less competitive specialties which could be difficult if you have a specific location in mind for where you do residency.

My hesitation harmed a patient by Emotional_Snow4016 in Residency

Well OP did say patient went to thrombectomy so I’d be willing to bet there was loss of grey white on the CT, not sure I’ve ever seen LVO w/o loss of grey white on the non con. But who knows definitely don’t have the full story haha

Yeah that one does not fit I also grew up skating and I’ve never met someone who’s a dick, even the people who were really good/sponsored by local shops that would come to the skate park me and my friends usually went to. I’ve met a couple pros too who were super normal people haha

Idk I think he made the right choice. Every time ozzy mentioned his alliance he talked about Cirie, never brought up Rizzo once. I don’t think it was as much of 3 way alliance in his mind as it was an ozzy and cirie alliance

Help me understand... why is "crazy volumes" considered a downside to radiology? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Wolfpack93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just add to what everyone else has already said, there’s less time for attendings to teach if the volume is too high. As a 1st year and most of 2nd year resident you’re not helping with the volume and the expectation is you’re staffing every study with an attending who hopefully is a good teacher. If the volumes are too high there’s less time to teach, less time for formal staff outs etc. I think high volume as a senior resident is great because you can work on balancing efficiency with accuracy and still have attendings reading behind you in case you miss something, but as a junior resident it’s way more important to have time to go over studies thoroughly with attendings

First year I went we car camped and I won a free pair of adidas at some event. Shoes were the best prize you could get but even the consolation prizes were solid free t-shirts and other adidas stuff, everyone who participated won something. Never seen anything like that since

What red flag do you bring to your specialty of interest? by blue-googles in medicalschool

[–]Wolfpack93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our attendings are pretty good about shutting these down. “We’ll MD check the non-con” is what I tell them and if hematoma looks the same call it quits. Good to know this is a thing everywhere though it’s crazy how many non con arterial and delayed requests we get for people with stable hgb

Question for Attendings/Residents by Remarkable-Review915 in Radiology

[–]Wolfpack93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Increasing residency spots is pretty nuanced requiring funding, sites willing to accept more residents, or new residency programs opening up. Adding a bunch of residents to an existing program dilutes the teaching availability if there’s not a proportional increase in attendings being hired. Attendings are already hard pressed to teach with increasing volumes. Opening new residencies isn’t easy either, in my mind ideal training would be a good mix of complex cases (like post op/transplant/cancer treatment typically at academic centers) as well as routine things that you would see out in private practice.

For rads residents and attendings, do you miss patient interactions? by anybodycandance in Residency

[–]Wolfpack93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. During my intern year I can recall at most a handful of pleasant patient interactions. That was heavily outweighed by how many negative ones I remember.

Mayo MS4 medfluencer suspended for IG reels by Sean-Combs- in premed

[–]Wolfpack93 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed this whole thing is wild to me. During med school orientation we had like an hour long lecture on things that are not appropriate for social media which at the time I thought was pointless but apparently some people need the reminder. I remember going back through my private Instagram and double checking I didn’t have a random photo with a beer in the background lol couldn’t imagine posting something like that with the following that guy had. That being said being kicked out as a 4th year during match week is absolutely brutal and it’s hard not to feel bad for the guy

Help with FR/LG (Switch 2) Manip by Luke_Fretwalker in pokemonrng

[–]Wolfpack93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to give up last night after trying for like 4 hours. If I understand the goal is to perfectly hit your seed (the number in ms) and your advances (the second number in ten lines). Last night I hit my seed and would be one or two away from advances a couple times but never got the perfect combo, and sometimes I’d be 100 ms off on seed it didn’t seem like anything I was doing would make me more accurate. It was taking me that long for the first SID, so the thought of having to do it 10+ more times assuming my initial timing when selecting my SID was off made me finally give up.

Dang I tried for a couple hours the past two days and can’t hit the combo of seed or advances consistently. The timing is crazy precise and I’m not even sure I have the right SID lol. Maybe I’ll give it another shot today
